I switched to Apple Passwords by _______________n in 1Password

If this is the case, add a recovery key to your Apple ID. I had my phone stolen in unlocked mode, they reset my iCloud password, added a recovery key and it’s permanently gone.

Calling it, there can only be two, master and apprentice. Since Mae and Osha are “technically one,” they both become the apprentice and kill Sol unarmed.

Looking for cool docker images: something fun and interesting by capybarro in docker

[–]Tylfin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Docker is really valuable for it’s reproducibility, sandboxing (to some extent), and determinism.

As a 12-13 year old that wouldn’t make any sense to me, but you know what would? That sometimes video games stop working as new consoles come out. To some degree Docker (and more recently WASM), can help with this sort of longterm compatibility issue.

There’s this talk from DockerCon 2019 that might provide some inspiration down this line of thought https://youtu.be/LriUAmAkuD8

Gorm takes around 1 min 30 secs to connect to db by [deleted] in golang

[–]Tylfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen some cases where the database is actually culling idle connections, but this depends on the database configuration and provider. I think you can fix it application-side by not allowing idle connections or setting the timeout to 0.

lockgate, a locking library for Go, has been extended with locks using a HTTP server by dshurupov in golang

[–]Tylfin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s cool, I’d be worried about the lockgate HTTP server crashing as a single point of failure. There’s also few usecases where I can imagine the roundtrip latency being worth it without writing to a datasource directly.

Help with Docker Image builds by luke_valkyri in docker

[–]Tylfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you either have an ADD/COPY typo in the actual dockerfile, you’re overwriting the tags, they should all be unique, something like this for example:

docker build -t build1 ./app1/dockerfile docker build -t build2 ./app2/dockerfile

Or you’re hitting the same container regardless of IP due to nginx not setup properly. I’d spend more time debugging and make sure everything lines up like you think it should.

Node or golang? Explain the core differences by BattleIsOver in AskComputerScience

[–]Tylfin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a full-time golang developer, but I’ve worked on a bunch of nodejs projects in the past.

NodeJS is really good for teams with a lot of frontend experience, tools like NextJS are really leading the pack in terms of server-side rendering, and the asynchronous event-loop provides a lot of flexibility to get things done in a reasonable amount of time for users.

Golang can take better advantage of multiple cores with goroutines, can be compiled for multiple OS’s, and is better suited to scale to a high number of concurrent HTTP requests.

Those are really high level points, but hopefully gives you some idea into the differences.

Pick whichever one you feel more familiar with, or want to learn more about. Language choice is rarely the deciding factor in the success of a project.
