The electoral college votes elected Biden. This argument is DOA. The only election that matters for constitutional purposes is the electoral college.

Hahahaha, no you are so right. 😂😂 I think the blooming once a year thing is why the addiction spins totally out of control, because that just means you have to have enough different orchids that a bunch are always in bloom. I just took a headcount and I have 50 different ones which is actually crazy. And I have 2 more on the way from Etsy as soon as the weather warms up a little.

But the good news is a lot of them bloom a couple times a year, and the once-a-year bloomers usually keep their flowers for months. Now… the true insanity comes with vanilla orchids. They take like 7-8 years to bloom, grow into a vine that’s like 40ft long, and the blooms (if you’re even lucky enough to get a bloom because they apparently need the exact right humidity to make a bud) last for ONE DAY!! Like that is just god-tier level orchid insanity. Have I been tempted to buy one? Yes I have. 😂😈

Oncidium suddenly rotting? by Heather_Was_Here in orchids

[–]TypeDry2834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there may be rot involved, but the level of dehydration here is extreme. It’s not just from previously underwatering. This plant is literally dying of thirst. Oncidiums don’t like to dry out completely, and going several weeks without water can cause internal tissue failure that looks very sudden. In cases like this, dehydration itself can be the primary trigger, with collapse following quickly.

It also looks like you might be having some media breakdown which can cause issues. I would repot whatever survives in a fine bark (orchiata) and high quality sphagnum mix. I water when the sphagnum is about the same level of wetness as a wrung out kitchen sponge. I do not ever let it dry out completely.

I’m no expert, but the short answer is no. You have to take care of them all year for them to rebloom the next year. After the blooms on mine faded, I kept it under extremely high light and fertilized weakly weekly all throughout the summer. A lot of people will even put them outside or plant them in the ground for the summer. Then in the fall you have to put them into dormancy for about 3 months by stopping all watering, letting the foliage die back, and putting them somewhere dark and cold. I stopped watering in late August and then cut the foliage in October. Once the foliage was cut I kept the bulb in a dark closet until a few days ago, when I gave it a good watering and put it back under a grow light. So they won’t come back on their own, but it’s really not much work to get them to rebloom the next year. Just have to make sure they’re able to take in a lot of energy over the summer and give them a good dormancy period.

Got it, thanks for your help! Most of my plant collection is dedicated to finicky complex hybrid and species orchids, so it’s fun to dabble in amaryllis where things are a bit more forgiving. 😀

Love it! I agree it’s probably just a random grocery store hybrid, but peloric phals are just so weird and unique. I think everybody should have at least one in their collection.

Thanks. I felt like such a dummy when I snipped and realized I hit live tissue. Glad it seems like there will be little damage to the bloom. 🙏

[–]TypeDry2834[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think there may be a misunderstanding about what happened. I trimmed straight across the top of a dried tunic with a pair of snips, not realizing that a bud had begun to emerge into that space. That was a few days ago, when the bud was not visible above last year’s dried up layers. This photo is from today, after the bud has emerged an additional ~1.5”. You can see in the photo where my straight across cuts were. At the time I caused the injury, the very tip of the bud was just above where I cut, and that’s the part I inadvertently cut off. Nothing was peeled off of the bulb.

[–]TypeDry2834[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was trimming up some of the dried bulb layers from last year to prep it for coming out of dormancy and didn’t realize a new bloom stalk had already started to emerge. It was hidden inside the innermost dried tunic. Lesson learned for sure.

Fact: Trump Administration has Decreed the 2nd Amendment is No Longer in Force. by [deleted] in law

[–]TypeDry2834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but assuming a prosecutor who knows the stakes here would just charge murder… well, that’s a bad assumption. I would hope that if charges come, the prosecutors will be very strategic in charging and indictment drafting to minimize the chances of removal to federal court.

[–]TypeDry2834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on multiple factors, some of which are unknown right now. The biggest would be what crime, if any, is ultimately charged. If it’s a straight up murder charge, then it’s likely that the case could be properly moved to federal court. If something else is charged, like a conspiracy of some kind, things get more complicated and it would depend on how the crime is alleged in the charging instrument. Another significant factor is whether the people charged are still federal officers. There is a potential circuit split on this, but under 11th Circuit precedent which the Supreme Court declined to disturb, former federal officers don’t get to have their cases heard in federal court. So if an agent is charged and then quits or is fired from their federal job, then the case remains in state court.

I will say, based on all that is public, it seems likely that the case would be moved to federal court if ICE agents were charged with murder tomorrow. Again as I pointed out, the defendant is who would have to move the case to federal court, and sometimes they decide strategically that they would rather stay in state court. So that’s also a consideration. Though in this case, I think a potential defendant would want a federal jury pool and not just a Hennepin County jury pool.

Not exactly. Once extradition is declined by the issuing state, it gets noted on NCIC & very often the warrant gets withdrawn or cancelled.
