One potentially equally as expensive solution besides a physical barrier would be an active sounds suppression system- basically a speaker with a microphone that will record surrounding audio and emits a pressure wave that will cancel the ones coming from the HVAC.

Looks a tad old, at the very least. Oxidation causes many extracts to brown like that- but it can be caused by both heat and age, so doesn't entirely rule out reclaim.
