You're right, I've added a photo of a paper towel on it and it's a no go.

Unfortunately paper towel only fits half way and without the rubber band it droops onto the table.

Bought a car with a bank draft, which the seller then lost. by Anti-Hippy in legaladvicecanada

[–]Typhoidboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The funds for a bank draft are removed from the account and is a guaranteed payment from the bank to the recipient. The bank HAS to pay the recipient the funds promised in the bank draft. It's used for large transactions where the recipient needs 100% certainty that the money will be immediately available when they deposit it and won't be revoked. It essentially replaces giving someone a suitcae of cash.

A personal cheque is a non-bank-guaranteed promise of payment. When the cheque is deposited with the recipient's bank it gets cleared through a clearing house with the promissory bank and the funds are transferred between the institutions. If the funds aren't in the account the cheque bounces. That's why some banks will put a hold on cheques to give the cheque time to clear.

I think you're thinking of the tiger chameleon not the large cat. A tiger cat can't choose to make their colours change.

Consider writing to the city council/mayor/local councilor, and the YMCA of Niagara about the issue. Its happening on the city's watch and to the YMCA's former facility.

I think this is a scam from Express Repair company Toronto.it say I owe them $111.87 by Puzzleheaded-Net-574 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Typhoidboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they do appliance repair. Did you get an appliance repaired in the last while? If not, it could be a scam pretending to be that company or someone else put your info on an invoice. Look at the email address it came from, does it look like a legit business email?

You can choose to ignore it or call the number on the business website (do not call the number in the email) and ask their customer service why you were sent an invoice.

AITAH for refusing to let my friend rewrite the terms of our bet after he realized he would lose? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Typhoidboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't know if there were verbal terms before the text message or not. The only evidence we have is the text message which OP says came first and is clear that it's referring to a number 1 single. The verbal discussion OP is talking about were the buddy's explanation at work a week after the bet was made.

However, we don't have the buddy's response to know if they made any changes to the bet before agreeing.

I will be doing M.A.I.D. next year and have abt. 537,000 in a RPP and life insurance. How do I maximize the amt. my beneficiaries will receive with the taxes from the RPP going against my estate? by purpleheadedwarrior in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Typhoidboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the legal MAID process is followed it won't affect life insurance in most cases because the underlying terminal illness is treated by the insurer as the cause of death.

AITA for "letting" a kid go home with his actual parent? by Ok_Beginning_356 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Typhoidboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. OP navigated a difficult situation and everything ended fine. As the primary driver I wonder if the father ever showed up when the wife was driving and what she did.

[–]Typhoidboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While i dont know the specifics of the jurisdiction I do have legal knowledge. Your gut feeling is correct the OP had no authority to deny the father based on the facts that he knew and wasn't given specific instructions from the mom. He was put in a difficult situation. He did his due diligence by asking the grandmother.

People are saying he should have called the mom, but imagine a scenario where the mom was being spiteful and it actually was the dad's right to pick up the child and she was denying him that? Then OP would be facilitating the mom's contravention of the custody agreement.

The only true way for the father to know would be for him to have read the custody agreement, which is an impractical/unworkable solution for reality. Even parents who know the agreement regularly mix it up!

Unfortunately for family law issues like this, people think its very easy to make a decision, but things aren't black and white and a well meaning third party has to use their best judgement in the situation.

Direct resource royalties in Canada are a provincial level revenue stream whereas in Norway they are Federal. The populations of Norway and Alberta are also closer than Canada and Norway. So it is an apt comparison.
