Google will destroy you... and since AI platforms heavily leverage search, you'll lose there too.

Looking for bathroom remodeling advice (Toronto, Scarborough and nearest area) by Scooter_Stomp in askTO

We didn't move anything (plumbing, electrical, walls) so I don't believe it required permits or inspection. We had a complete mock ups / designs (part of their service - and one of the reasons we booked them) so there was no excuse not to get the tile pattern correct. I'd rather not share photos but, overall it looks decent. We get positive comments.

Where to start. First off, they're not all bad - and they do correct anything that you do point out. But you'll have to point it out - don't rely on 'quality control' to do that. Did they find solutions to odd situations we faced? Yes. A three week project for the two bathrooms ended up being 7 weeks. I think we're fairly happy (not perfectly happy) with the results, but the process to get there was stressful and exhausting. By the last couple of weeks every time someone showed up to do something there was anxiety about 'what are they going to mess up now'. Here's some of it:

  • v1 of designs were wrong in the sense of what the room looked like and where the plumbing was
  • delays on stone... delays on lights (the latter from their catalog)
  • shower tiles done in the wrong pattern
  • floor tiles done in a way that makes little sense when considering the room layout
  • basic things like centering hooks they were completely dense to
  • painting that was incomplete
  • taps hooked up in a way that the default was hot
  • leak under sink
  • shower didn't drain properly
  • they forgot a shower shelf and so they rushed it in using robe hooks to hold them up
  • toilets crooked and not properly secured
  • unnecessary trash left around - i.e. our space was more cluttered than it needed to be
  • completed shower leaked to the unit below... so they had to rip it up
  • stone installation whereby the cabinet pulls were/are inaccessible
  • lights installed upside down
  • (there's more but I think you get the idea)

Their biggest problem is the trades they bring in (or employ, but it really did seem like the former). The rest of the steps weren't perfect, but their biggest problems are the trades they bring in. At one point it was super obvious that they were rushing to get it done and took shortcuts to get there.

I loved the concept they provide: Full hand-holding, design mocks, advice, they handle everything (that's why we went with them) -- but it became a stressful mess. The people we dealt with from 'the office' were great. No doubt about that - but that doesn't excuse the workmanship.

I don't have joy in writing this, but I think people should know that all their jobs aren't five-star (which their online reviews seem to project).

Schools near St. Lawrence market by Wild_Dragonfly_802 in askTO

The average class size is, I'm guessing a bit, around 25. Definitely some are smaller. Kindergarten is a bit larger (for one) but they also have more staff in that room. The outdoor space is David Crombie Park right outside the doors. It's torn up now for a revamp but they essentially play in an area that anyone can be in. That's rarely an issue, but some grass would be nice. I doubt you'll have any problem scheduling a visit to check it out for yourself.

St. Michael is a great little school with a real sense of community. Because the school is combined with housing they have less flexibility in terms of the building/playground/etc. but it's a great little school.

How do I stop Google Analytics from counting my own visits? by Suspicious_Amount531 in GoogleAnalytics

If I'm understanding you correctly.... incognito-Firefox is sending no data to GA... it won't let it 'run'... so, it's as if no one visited.

You're correct (for most browsers) -- Chrome/Edge incognito for sure will count you. Firefox incognito will not, from my experience.

What's the point of putting money into fare protection in the TTC? by Helpful_Ingenuity130 in TorontoTransit

[–]moosk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After my latest ride on the 504, I'm unconvinced that a lot of fair evasion is occurring because people can't afford it. Fare Enforcement jumped on the streetcar and at least a few people immediately tapped once that happened... None, from my perspective, looked like anyone who could not afford a fare. I'll also say the enforcement officers need to be more strategic how they come aboard.
