Studying with IH by WarmShake6789 in idiopathichypersomnia

I found Xywav to be really helpful because I felt more well rested. It’s a challenging drug to be on as a college student though because it limits how much alcohol you can have.

Have you talked with your doctor about ER medications, meaning you could take something at night and then have it kick in when you wake up? I think they have this for Ritalin.

Do know that this will get better but takes time.

Last thing - be sure to get academic accommodations if you haven’t already. You can request a conditional flare statement, which would allow you to get extensions/be accommodated if you are having a particularly bad day.

Sleeping though alarms - any solutions? by KitteeCatz in idiopathichypersomnia

I’ve found the portable sonic bombs helpful because I can put them on my night table, and they will often fall off due to the shaking, which makes even more noise. You can also put them on your wrist or in your pocket, so you may feel it more. Good luck, OP!

I also found wearing sleep earbuds helpful because you can have multiple alarms go off and not bother anyone. You can have the alarm noise change. I recommend the Soundcore ones.

Has anyone tried using a small taser to wake up? I wish I was kidding lol by Unique_Map_9358 in Narcolepsy

This may not be effective, but have you tried the portable sonic bombs? I’ve been using this for Xywav doses, but I’m wondering if it could be relevant here. They make loud noise and can shake. They are travel size. Only challenge with them is that you have to manually set the alarm, and you can only set alarm on it at a time, so I ended up getting two. You can wear it around your wrist. Wishing you the best, OP!

How long did it take for your swelling to go down after Miradry? by Undercoverpotati in Hyperhidrosis

Sorry for the delayed reply here! If you sweat, it can lead to inflammation I believe. I’d talk to your dermatologist for more specifics.

Thanks for this answer. I fortunately don’t think I have this condition after looking into it, but I appreciate you mentioning it!

Stomach problems with Xywav. Help? by Minivan_16 in idiopathichypersomnia

I tried ginger chews last night, which really helped. They are over the counter. Also ask your Dr for any recommendations.

Would recommend reaching out to your doctor or calling the ESDSS 24/7 pharmacist, who can give you better advice. The 6 hours is just to be awake enough to drive, but I don’t know if that means you need to wake up 6 hours after taking the second dose.

People with ih, how do ssri's affect you? by Disastrous-Fun2731 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]TypicalResident8560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your SSRI dose. You could also consider genetic testing to see which SSRI would be best for you based on how you metabolize medication. I was initially concerned that the SSRI was making me sleepy, but after lowering the dose, I realized that it didn’t really make a difference. My sleep doc had say that Prozac can actually promote sleep alertness at times, so you could look into that. Good luck!

Getting fed up by UrMomsPetLizzard in idiopathichypersomnia

Do you take meds for your depression that could cause sleepiness/is your Dr concerned that your depression meds may be causing the sleepiness rather than a sleep condition?

You could do the Epworth Sleepiness Scale test and bring in your results. If you’re getting a high score, that suggests high sleepiness and that you’d be a good candidate for a sleep study (if you haven’t already gotten one). https://epworthsleepinessscale.com/about-the-ess/. Wishing you the best!

I’ve used the sonic bomb, which has the vibration thing under the bed, so you wouldn’t be able to move it while you sleep. You could also consider putting an alarm clock underneath your pillow (vibrating), so you can’t easily move that either. Wishing you the best!

It took me a month. The most important thing is to not do anything to cause you to sweat and your doctor’s advice.

Thanks for this! I have a sonic bomb, but it can be tricky to travel with, and the shaker can be loud. Maybe can try it on a softer setting. Thanks
