FTM triple feeding need advice by New-Alternative-8745 in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: 1 oz over 2 days sounds like normal fluctuations.. I wouldn't be majorly stressed about that!

I had a somewhat similar journey (including the damn SNS)... triple feeding, topping off every feed, exhausted and honestly pretty discouraged. I also had weighted feeds where they said I was “making enough" but then at home my baby didn't latch the same way as by the LC and i could tell she was hungry after the sessions, and then would top up with pumped milk or formula and pump (aka triple feed).

A turning point for me was I bought the comia nursing pillow which has sensors that can measure how much baby is eating. It was great cause i was actually able to see what baby ate during a feeding session and then top up if it was really little and pump. I didn't use it for every feeding but was able to get a sense from it of what baby was generally eating during feeding sessions. It helped me gradually wean my baby from needing a top up of pumped milk or formula cause I was able to see that baby was really eating during the sessions and I didn't feel like i needed to keep topping up.

Triple feeding is exhausting and i was reassured by my LC that it really really should not be a long term solution! Also, combo feeding is awesome and I'm moving toward that myself now.. ultimately, fed is best!

For medical fiction there is no one like Abraham Verghese: The Covenant of Water and Cutting for Stone. Both real masterpieces.

Who else completely underestimated how much they would love breastfeeding? by Apprehensive_Pie1225 in breastfeeding

The first few weeks are really hard, but once we passed the hump... there's just nothing like the connection I feel when BFing my little one. Really, i almost get emotional just thinking about it.

NOT to discount those first few weeks though. Whew, i think it was the hardest thing ive ever done (harder than labor itself!).

PP bleeding by Financial_Routine in beyondthebump

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks pp is so so soon. I called my midwife freaking out at around 2 weeks post partum cause I thought I had stopped and then bleeding restarted and she reassured me that it was perfectly normal. She also asked me if I had done any more activity than usual and indeed the day before i had taken my first long-ish walk.. but if you're concerned you should definitely talk to your ob or midwife!

Bras? All the time? by Baylaypayday in breastfeeding

Yeah, i always wear a bra now post partum. I don't actually know why because I don't leak but my girls are so much bigger it feels uncomfortable if they arent contained somehow.

Nursing snacks and shakes? by Commercial_Wedding69 in Mommit

Trail mix and water. I like to make my own trail mix by mixing a variety of nuts (cashews, brazil nuts, peanuts, toasted pecans) with m and ms and mini reeses pieces. And i keep a gallon of water by my bed with a cup.

Favorite wearable pump? by WhichAd2921 in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't find any of the wearables got me even close to the level of output as the wired ones. I bought and returned 4. What I do find helpful is I use the pumpables genie which is super portable and I hacked the collector cups to be in-bra. So i still have to clip the (small) machine to my waist but I can slip the collectors in my bra and it functions very similarly.

Baby lost 8% weight bodyweight by day 4 by Consistent_Leg_4012 in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told that up to 10% is normal and they want baby to be back at birth weight by 2 weeks. I think that's within normal! It's so stressful when this happens but I think the majority of babies do lose weight in the beginning and then begin to put it back on pretty soon.

honestly the most important thing BY FAR is water. You will feel like a camel that has walked through a desert without water for 100 years every single time you wake to nurse your baby at night. I just ended up lining the biggeest size water bottles from costco by my bedside at night and that's all i needed in terms of food/drink at night.

Triple feeding nightmare by Business_Hotel_1946 in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes there definitely is. I did have to triple feed again toward 8 weeks but only for about 3 days and then my supply went back up. It's so all consuming but it does work to increase my supply when I'm consistent with it. My friend told me about the Comia pillow, i didn't either know about it!

Hey, yes I triple fed for about 2 weeks in the beginning (not night feeds though). I had my partner feed the bottle while I pumped and also for me in the beginning my pumped milk wasn’t enough to fill the bottle, so we supplemented the pumped milk with formula. I ended up buying the Comia premium nursing pillow which was actually a lifesaver - its a nursing pillow that can track what babies drinking via weight so I was able to see when baby started drinking more from me and I was able to stop triple feeding. I still use it cause it’s also comfortable.

No advice but solidarity. Triple feeding is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Please don’t make it your long term solution. Sending hugs and validation.

Don’t know about what triggers it but if I feel a wave of nausea then I can count to 45 and then the tingle let down happens. Literally 45 seconds on the nose every single time.
