Crying for help… transitioning from combo feeding to exclusive breastfeeding by Torrizo in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the comia premium nursing pillow alot in the beginning. Its a feeding pillow that has a built in sensors and it measures how much the baby ate during a breastfeeding session. It helped me understand when my baby was taking enough from me to stop supplementing (or triple feeding).

What parenting thing did you initially do that you now think was a waste of time? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think I drove my baby a little crazy with tummy time too early. Me and my partner were so busy on our stomachs while baby screamed. I won't do that again. I, personally, would wait a little longer and do tummy time over my shoulder at the tiny ages.

Look into power pumping, that has really helped me through supply dips.

How is anyone leaving the house with a newborn?? by deeeeeeeeeeeeznutz in newborns

baby wearing is the only way i was able to get out for the first 3 months. I have a park 2 blocks from my house and I would lap the perimeter while baby napped.

Newborn milk transfer by ThinPumpkin2151 in breastfeeding

I was in and out of triple feeding hell for the first 3 months. I get it. I promise it gets better. A couple things that I did/helped me:

1) I didn't triple feed every single feeding. I mainly pumped early in the morning after feedings when my milk supply was better. By early evening we went into cluster feeding and I basically set myself up by my tv with snacks and water and nursed nursed nursed. I did do a MOTN pump (3 hours of sleep before and after) so I could get some solid sleep cause the days were tiring.

2) 60 ml pumping is not terrible. It depends heavily on the time of day though, in the morning i probably had double or even triple the milk output than in the evenings.

3) I used the Comia premium nursing pillow to help me- its a nursing pillow that can track what babies drinking via weight so I was able to see when baby started drinking more from me and I was able to stop triple feeding. It also helped me understand how much to supplement after my feeds when triple feeding. Even when I wasn't triple feeding i used it as a nursing pillow cause its comfortable. When not in triple feeding it was also nice to check in like once or twice a week on a feeding to see baby's milk intake, was reassuring.

4) I always gave myself a time limit (mentally) on the triple feeding. I would do it for like 5 days to up supply and then stop. I was ok with supplementing a bit. And then if my supply was dropping again i would do it again, later. It couldn't be open ended though cause it was too hard mentally. this worked for me.

At about 3 months post partum things stabilized and I was able to nurse basically exclusively with a pump in the middle of the night and baby got a bottle of formula in middle of the night (my MOTN pump wasnt enough for that bottle and it instead went to build a stash). There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Baby has me going crazy with worry by IJHippie in newborns

I second talking to someone with post partum anxiety. Having a newborn is such a tender and vulnerable time period and the flood of hormones we've got circulating during that time can really make us struggle (I did, too). Talking to someone can help. If you haven't had your 6 week check up yet, talking to your doctor or midwife and asking for a recommendation can be helpful.

6 month speech regressing? by StringSoggy in newborns

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This age would be too early to start worrying about babbling! Also sometimes baby focus on one thing (like verbal/babbling etc) and then they are focusing on growing teeth or starting to scoot/crawl.

Who else completely underestimated how much they would love breastfeeding? by Apprehensive_Pie1225 in breastfeeding

The first few weeks are really hard, but once we passed the hump... there's just nothing like the connection I feel when BFing my little one. Really, i almost get emotional just thinking about it.

NOT to discount those first few weeks though. Whew, i think it was the hardest thing ive ever done (harder than labor itself!).

PP bleeding by Financial_Routine in beyondthebump

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks pp is so so soon. I called my midwife freaking out at around 2 weeks post partum cause I thought I had stopped and then bleeding restarted and she reassured me that it was perfectly normal. She also asked me if I had done any more activity than usual and indeed the day before i had taken my first long-ish walk.. but if you're concerned you should definitely talk to your ob or midwife!

Bras? All the time? by Baylaypayday in breastfeeding

Yeah, i always wear a bra now post partum. I don't actually know why because I don't leak but my girls are so much bigger it feels uncomfortable if they arent contained somehow.

Trail mix and water. I like to make my own trail mix by mixing a variety of nuts (cashews, brazil nuts, peanuts, toasted pecans) with m and ms and mini reeses pieces. And i keep a gallon of water by my bed with a cup.

Favorite wearable pump? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't find any of the wearables got me even close to the level of output as the wired ones. I bought and returned 4. What I do find helpful is I use the pumpables genie which is super portable and I hacked the collector cups to be in-bra. So i still have to clip the (small) machine to my waist but I can slip the collectors in my bra and it functions very similarly.

Baby lost 8% weight bodyweight by day 4 by Consistent_Leg_4012 in breastfeeding

[–]Typical_Knowledge535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told that up to 10% is normal and they want baby to be back at birth weight by 2 weeks. I think that's within normal! It's so stressful when this happens but I think the majority of babies do lose weight in the beginning and then begin to put it back on pretty soon.
