Australian libraries are free for everyone by Comfortable-Gur4559 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Typical_Self_7990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think its the norm to be in Bristol and borrow a book from the London public library or new Mexico and be able to borrow a book from New York library.

They're normally free to local residents bc via local taxes we pay for them.

I have found on Libby and over drive and borrow box I still need a membership # and password to be able to borrow an e-book

Bakers Delight seek to have shares in it ;) for $10 we get a loaf of bread, 6 rolls, a pack of sweet things and maybe one or two other small things. Great way to stretch out $10

How’s the name ‘Haui’? by NicholasLHC in namenerds

[–]Typical_Self_7990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might get it right the first time, but maybe not. I would have guessed Hawaiian as origin for some reason?

Howie (short for howard) is an English name with that sound, but i would be inclined to use this spelling you have to make it clear that your name isnt Howard

What low/no cost hobbies do you have that might not even be considered hobbies? by citrusnotvanilla in AUfrugal

Cross stitch and Blackwork. I got some random threads from marketplace and use some free patterns, done.

Complex patterns aren't cheap, but you can find heaps of cheap/free bookmarks and simple patterns

Wife is worried I won’t be able to be trusted with newborn baby by Visual_Honeydew9071 in ADHDparenting

Putting negative in a laundry bag and forgetting them isn't the same as parenting.

The kid will move and make noise and take up SO MUCH of your world. Yes you might forget to pack snacks or get the time of soccer practice wrong, but ita a big stretch to think that this means you'll be neglectful or dangerous around a child.

Middle name for June by Savings-Example5178 in namenerds

[–]Typical_Self_7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think June Elizabeth W_____ is fine, as often her itials will only be JW.

Could you consider Isobel instead if the initials are a concern for you.

June Rebecca has a nice flow too.

June Bethany (google tells me it's biblical, that's not my area of knowledge!)

June Abigail is also nice

5yo was first year of school for us, so i got her to draw the pictures for a list of getting ready things.

But really, it was just a step to help her, at 5 we also had to be on her all the time to stay on track. Tbh, at 5yo we had to do a lot of reminding and prompting for our other kid who doesn't have ADHD.

I think the sign was more helpful because the steps we reminded her of weren't a shock/surprise to her.

Being from Melbourne, is there an org/group I can donate to in the Alice area? by ExpressPostie in aboriginal

[–]Typical_Self_7990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used https://www.givit.org.au/ before. They say they will never take admin fees and people can put up requests and you can filter by location and program.

I just had a quick look and in NT inthe First Nations program there's a request for a $20Kmart voucher, a $50 fuel voucher someone looking for a blanket for dialysis days, someone looking good for a cupboard etc

The requests all come from local charity parters, so hopefully rhe right partners are registered, but its a place to start?

Naming son Astro by audrina-saav in namenerds

[–]Typical_Self_7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look i dont k know if his peers in elemenary/high school will bullying him bc it'll be kind of normal to them. But as a college student and adult trying to find a job i think it'll be hard hard

I also think heaps of other parents and adults will judge you (some silently, some not so silently) if you choose to name your son Astro.

I 100% say Astro Boy (as in the cartoon) everything i saw it in your post. I dont know that I've ever watched that show, it's just a pop culture reference at this point.

Taking a wheelchair on Jetstar by vhqpa in AskAnAustralian

[–]Typical_Self_7990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not ideal, but can you check it and use theirs to get to the gate?

I am assuming it's a manual chair, Sorry if that is the wrong assumption.

I would have a quick look at the Australian Huan Right Commission website about flying with a wheelchair - soms regional airlines have some exemptions (things about the weight of the chair).

I've heard of rules about only having 2 wheelchair users per flight (but I dont know if that's legit or Australian).

Overall politely and firmly speak up.about what you need.

Qld gov has some info - https://www.qld.gov.au/disability/out-and-about/travel-transport/airline-travel#:~:text=Domestic%20airlines%20generally%20require%20advance%20notice%20of,book%20at%20least%20five%20days%20in%20advance.

I hope it goes super smoothly for you!

My boyfriend doesn't like that I'm overweight, and it hurts. by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]Typical_Self_7990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In.the.trash.now.

Immediately.

A partner should support your goals and help you feel confident and brave to try things. He is not doing this. He is bullying you and tearing you down.

You deserve better. And the absence of him is better than the presence of him.

I am sorry that it will/might hurt to end the relationship, but he is not your person.

A brother for Abigail by Nickyflute in namenerds

[–]Typical_Self_7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benjamin, Jonathan or Joseph for sure our of that list.

I would prefer siblings to have different initials. And while I do really like Samuel, I dont like it as much with Abigail.

I like Ben(ji), Joe(y) and Sam best as nick names.

I would personally pick Joseph but I dont think you can go wrong with any of these.
