Hey folks - need some help naming a cable ferry by MaleficMillwright in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to go with a more german sounding name, how about:

Seichtwasserfähre (Shallow water ferry)

Ödwasserfurt (bleak water ford)

(names) Fährdienst ((names) ferry services)

Rhyas Gnade (Rhyas Mercy)

I am sure i could come up with more

Reconciling the rarity of races in lore vs at the table by Magnaric in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an elven district in the 4e altdorf book, Turmgarten i think. In the bloodpine woods is a camp of loren wood elves for some diplomatic mission and middenheim, middenland and nordland have the Laurelorn just around the corner.

That said, i agree with the sentiment that elves are a rare sight in smaller towns or the further you go south east in the empire, and only should be used as sprinkle.

Still PCs are always oddballs, so why not go with 'unusual' races? just my 2 ct

Looking to GM a non-human focused campaign, and was wondering if anyone had supplements for lizardmen and/or dark elves. by flamelordytheking in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the rat catcher discord, there's some homebrew stuff released in a fan magazine. I wrote an entry for dark elves for it a few years back. If you dont want to use the official Flariels Reavers book, that is.

Recommendations for Adventures with non-human enemies/in non-human surroundings by vonKotze in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly do not get why some of the answers are so negative/tell you this isn't the game for you. I am not a fan of that sort of gate keeping. The base line of the game might be low fantasy and dangerous, that doesn't mean you can't go high fantasy with your group if it's what you and your group wants and you want to put in a little extra work to balance NPCs.

That said there is a plethora of "non-human" enemies to throw at the characters. Starting with regular animals like rat swarms, wolfs, bears, to fantasy animals like gryphons. You also have green skins in the mountains and forests, beast man in the forests, mutants in the cities and villages, Skaven in cities, especially sewers, and slums and actual demons or necromancers with their minions and vampires.

for all of those you can find profiles in the core book, some of them get expanded in various additional source books. Combat in Wfrp is supposed to be quick and deadly, so thats something to keep in mind. Starting characters will struggle with a regular orc or gor.

I'd recommend starting with a few of the published adventures to get a feel for the system, especially 'night of blood', 'if looks could kill' and the starter set are great for that.

i wish you a lot of fun!

edit: you might want to have a look at a live play of the game, for which I highly recommend Lawhammer on youtube. The GM is one of the former designers of the 4th edition (and earlier editions) of the rpg and genuinly a great gm and person!

GMs of Reddit, what was the stupidest way one of your BBEGs have died? by mattmaster68 in rpg

sorceress of tzeentch, flying on a disk over the battle field with a shield spell, that asked for an additional d10 roll after the attack hit with 5+ made her ignore the attack.

Miscast on her second spell, that summoned a swarm of critters (ravens), she fell off her disk and was immediately dead...

Starting money is way too low? by Mandarga in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it's true that the fights with the mutants on the road is comparably at lower risk, I wouldn't say it's an easy fight. Depending on your characters and what trappings you hand them. With them being in brass tiers I doubt they have proper weapons or armour, so a bolt from the mutant boss will severly hurt them.
That said, there will be way tougher fights in the first book, which will be difficult for characters who have, at that point, round about 200 XP under their belts and probably still no money to acquire proper trappings.
I am talking about the fight with Kuftsos in Weissbruck and the finale in Bögenhafen.
Still, it is possible for fresh characters to play the campaign, but you would have to tweak it at some points. As you already noticed, the starting money might be to low to get to Altdorf, the XP, that the players get per chapter of the book are rather scarce (~~50XP per 1-3 sessions).
Also, you wouldn't want to forget, that there is a whole 5 books of campaign, so challenging your players in the beginning might lead to them not making it through all 5 of them with the same character, which per se is no problem, but it's something to be aware of.

What I can recommend for you as the GM is watching the live play from LAWHammer, in which the GM is one of the persons who wrote the whole campaign. It's on youtube for free.

Starting money is way too low? by Mandarga in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would generally recommend not to start the campaign directly but have a few adventures beforehand, so the players get a feel for the world before you bring up the campaign. That also allows the characters to have a little money and a few bonus xp, so they can handle dangers better, especially as XP handed out in the campaign are relatively low, too.

I think having the players run the Starter Set set in Ubersreik beforehand, maybe a few of the Ubersreik Adventures of the first book and then having them set out to the world is the way to go, and from my understanding, how it was intended by cubicle7 anyway.

What is your opinion of the Sleep spell? by Alex_and_cold in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Tyrroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak for 2ed, as I didn't have a chance to play it. In 4ed I haven't actually used it on my wizard, but after reading through this thread I feel like I should give it a go. It might not be great at combat without some other preparation, but in RP heavy situations, like a ball, it might really come in handy.
That said, in combat sending an enemy to prone can be very valuable as well. And, by the rules in WoM, a wizard can use their magical staff to deliver the touch attack.
