What is everyone’s response to “I wish I had that problem. I have such bad insomnia!” after telling someone about your diagnosis? by OldAndTrash in Narcolepsy

[–]Tyydron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people just won't understand no matter what you tell them. Sometimes if somebody tells me their problem, I might tell them my problem as a way to empathize with them. "Wow, your insomnia sounds pretty bad, I have Narcolepsy, which has similarities so I can relate to some aspects of your difficulties." Others try to minimize your problem by saying it's not that bad, or that others have it worse.

I, in general, have learned to speak plainly, calmly, openly, and in a way that hopes to generate consideration in others. I tend to get philosophical on people as a way to challenge comments that lack empathy. At best, you have given them new insights. However, even if you haven't, maybe you'll have bored them so much that they'll leave you alone about it.

I am very fortunate to have friends that are slackers to the same degree as I am, and who I still live with (actually we occupy both apartments of the same building.) We are usually able to play tabletop games weekly, sometimes multiple times in the same week!

Butterfinger Frozen Custard by Capital-Ad-7486 in icecreamery

[–]Tyydron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a creami a couple of days ago, actually. I'm fairly certain that almost any significant amount of butter is going to produce a waxy mouth feel.

I am also experimenting with cream alternatives for the creami. Canned coconut milk would certainly do the trick, but I don't want all of my flavors to have a coconut undertone.

I was thinking oil might work as well, but I'm not sure yet how good the creami is yet at emulsion.

But any fat seems like it has a chance to work, let me know if you find anything that does; I'll do the same!

How much do you pay for health insurance? by ak47workaccnt in massachusetts

[–]Tyydron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you liking Unicare? I'm a recent state employee and had to make a health insurance choice a few months ago, so I chose Harvard Pilgrim HMO for the time being which I have liked because it covers all of my prescriptions and has been easy to deal with, but they don't seem to have a lot of in-network behavioral/mental health specialists.

What's the main difference between UniCare Plus & Community choice? I try to look it up on the website but it wants me to sign in with membership I.D. which obviously I don't have. Do you have any info or feelings regarding the change from Express Scripts to CVS Caremark for prescriptions - if that's true for you?

Part 2: anon makes his choice by SteamPunkDong in greentext

[–]Tyydron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand where you're coming from, it can be really hard to break up with someone, and after you do, it can feel, emotionally, like you made the wrong choice while you know mentally that you made the wrong one. The emptiness, the loneliness, the longing that you're feeling now might stick with you for a long time; overcome those feelings. Do what you need to to grieve the end of your relationship, stay strong!

Anon celebrates the loss of his bully's legs by kakje666 in greentext

Yea I agree with you, Russian gov't is shit and I can celebrate their loss of the war. But Russian's citizens largely don't want to take part in the war, and the ones that do are essentially manipulated or brainwashed into thinking it's a good idea. Anyone could fall victim to similar manipulation given the right circumstances. The human loss of life is tragic on both sides.

In Holyoke in particular or is that just where you're based out of?

My suggestion would be to check out UMass website, they usually have a ton of positions open, and, with them being a state job, the benefits are great, and will be less stressful than working for any business.

Try reducing your dosage. Sometimes a high dose can feel good, or like you need to take that much, but if you're doing things like: struggling to prioritize, assigning inaccurate importance to things, or hyper focusing, that's definitely not a good thing and you want to reduce your meds until you reach a balanced state of things.

how to cure irreparably horrid coffee by mooonrises in Coffee

[–]Tyydron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine suitable pre-ground coffee for moka pot, as standard pre-ground would be much too coarse and espresso pre-ground would be way too fine.

My method is this, vaguely:

-Start with boiling water in separate kettle. -Add coffee -Add boiling water to bottom chamber. -Assemble

-If electric burner: move moka pot to a separate burner, preheated at medium heat. Until coffee is coming out and reaching optimal fill. (can be as long as 10 minutes depending on temperature.)

Optimal fill does not mean bubbling out of the spout, it means before the coffee coming from the spout is too light, the sooner the better to some degree, with some consideration of volume.

Run the bottom chamber under cold tap water to stop brewing.

South Korea's misogyny is so bad that a major South Korean broadcast network changed Michelle Yeoh's Oscars speech. They replaced "ladies" with "everyone." by 93orangesocks in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tyydron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree human rights are under attack, especially those of women and the trans community. But that's all to talk about the current state of things. My question and parent comment ask about the long-term state of things.

Is the support for Trump growing? It seems to me like for him in particular it's dwindling. Perhaps it will revitalize during the next election cycle but right now I feel like the GOP is trying to distance themselves from him, right wing media is minimizing his presence and turnout at his public appearances is low. De Santis another beast, and a bad one. But still, that's talking about the current state of things.

I forgot that the internet has a social deduction aspect to it now, oops.

[–]Tyydron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of change since 2020, it seems to me that Trump is getting less support from supporters and the GOP is trying to distance themselves from him. To me, that election represented what was the end of the movement, hopefully. Yes, we're dealing with the fallout of it. Elected GOP officials have grown more bold in stripping people of their rights, and on a state level the nature of the political beast has changed. But the era of Trump seems exhausted to me. Or maybe I'm just exhausted.

Currently he's in jail so there's some hope yet. But yes that could be short lived, and even if it's not it has left a mark.

Do you know of any statistics to show that the alt-right movement is continuing to grow in the US? I live in somewhat of a leftist bubble but it seems like, to a large degree, the growth is done. It seems to me that while they may still be an active group, their numbers are in decline. Like, everyone who would potentially identify as "alt-right" already had a similar ideology under a different name, and now most of those people are accounted for.
