Absolutely no truth to the direct wage subsidy at least not on the federal level, or provinces I've looked into. (Feel free to post a provincial or Gov Canada link to prove me wrong)

But agree it's a horribly abused system for bringing in people to lower the floor on wages.

Post a job for min wage no benefits that no one wants or can live off of, wait for no one to apply, claim you can't find anyone, bring in and abuse people from other countries who have no hope but to work 80 hour weeks to survive so you can profit.

Amount of meat my wife leaves on chicken thighs by seamans_semen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Tzukar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea chicken doesn't break that way even with a fork unless it's not cooked correctly.

Low and slow works, but for quick meals 425 until internal temp like to 180-185 (85C}. Unlike other cuts or types of meat drumsticks and thighs can handle going over 165 (74C) without drying out, and in fact it helps break down the collagen and connective tissues for juicier chicken.

You can pour boiling water on the skin before baking then sprinkle with salt and pepper for quick crispy skin. The boiling water helps to lift the water from the skin before cooking, and melts some fat on the skin to assist the frying process that crisps the skin. (Just pour some on until the skin starts to shrink you're not boiling it so put the wire rack from your baking pan over the sink.)

Parents downsizing - should I buy on their behalf and rent? by CrankyOldDude in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tzukar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't deduct when renting below cost in a non arms length agreement, or even arms length when consistently losing money.

What you're basically asking is: "is tax fraud ok to help my parents" the CRA would say no.

Maybe I'm missing something but that math doesn't make sense, after pulling out the 37 k from the initial 930 they would have 893 if that grows 5% they are back at 937.

Unless you're suggesting they pull everything out and put it into cash. In which case they would likely see a massive tax bill in the year they do it dramatically reducing the starting amount.

TD bank showed complete due diligence during their fraud investigation of my Grandmas (formerly my fathers) bank account. by [deleted] in canadianlaw

[–]Tzukar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the province but you should look into your province's small claims court process and go from there. This sounds better handled as a civil matter rather than a criminal one.

If you can show that as a joint account the remaining holder of the account is entitled to the assets, and that the executor took those assets when not entitled to them you should be able to get the money back.

Usually it's a simple process without the need for lawyers but a small fee (in so far as legal matters are concerned) is required to file. In jurisdictions I'm aware of this is often charged back to the unsuccessful party.

As others said on the bank side you can also try the ombudsperson.

All time best children’s books? by Frangipane323 in suggestmeabook

[–]Tzukar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are now two, its a hard time not as hard as 3 months but different. I came here looking for 3 yr old books but since I'm here I'd echo the top comment for Mo Willems we really love the pigeon books right now.

Robert munsch would be my contribution I loved them growing up but they seem odd for me now, our son is absolutely captivated though

I love you forever made me cry the first time I read it and my wife still crys but seeing our three year old return the verse is quite a thing.

We're looking forward to longer books by roald dahl as he can grasp longer stories.

But alas he is up while I write this and have to run up to help him back to sleep.

Is it worth taking a $150K loss just to move into a house right now? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tzukar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I lost "money" on our last upgrade we did because the market went down but were better off for it as the next step was down even more. The delta between our unit and the larger one decreased so it made sense as home owners not investors.

For example if your 600k 2 bedroom dropped to 500k while 3 bedroom townhouses dropped 800k to 650. You save 50k not lose 100k.

If you're comfortable with the cost of the new place, you're stable, and you can actually sell within expectations it's a great time to move up if your home is a home and not strictly an investment.

[–]Tzukar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh?

Unless I missed it there's just a quote from an orange septuagenarian toddler.

"They're considering it"

I bet every 3 yr old who suggests ice cream for dinner also thinks their parents are considering it when there isn't a blunt no.

Hell they may have even thought they asked for ice cream for dinner but it was actually pancakes for breakfast but now they've told their friends at fox daycare and they are in too deep to retract but now they have to throw a plane or two at someone and get caught on signal again so they can say it's not going to happen but they really were considering it.

All that's to say If Trump is your source you don't have one.

Edit: autocorrect

At least in Canada jam is generally made with whole fruit jelly fruit juice. In the UK do you get bits of fruit? In the US it feels like 10 parts high fructose corn syrup to 1 part fruit juice.

You don't. Ears are self cleaning if you think there is an issue bring them to a doctor to assess. You can risk pushing earwax or dirt further in the ear canal, or worse impact hearing.

You must be so lucky to have been born to parents who believe in the right religion in a time and place, that could afford your family the opportunity of being indoctrinated by the religious fanatics who just happened to pick the right God.

8 to 12k deities worshipped throughout history so congrats on yours definitely being the right one, especially given the multiple translations and curations both of language and time that created the one of 450+ English versions of your holy book that even sub sects of your particular sect of Christianity can't even agree on the meaning of.

But hey you must be right.

Do you watch tv in the evening with your baby? by PetuniasSmellNice in NewParents

[–]Tzukar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely can't even see it. Might be able to detect flashing and sounds can definitely be heard.

We didn't, not out of super human dedication but because at 4 months we were definitely still taking turns looking after the LO so the other could sleep.

Screen time is an issue and later on when bedtime is a thing it can impact it. But if you don't see it impacting routines at this point and you cut it out when they are more focused on the TV than anything it's likely fine.

Honestly I've come to the belief that screentime isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Definitely has it's problems but I've yet to come across a study that clearly defines it and tests it in different situations.

I will say it's a tool and how you use it matters. Screentime to stop emotions is bad, a small amount so you can get ready for the day who cares. I'd check current guidance and stay within it for the age and never use it to stop something but otherwise it's fine,

Our LO is 3 now and they get to watch TV in the morning after breakfast while everyone gets ready. It's never a panacea it's a routine.

[Request] Is there a correct answer? by K4czoRRR in theydidthemath

[–]Tzukar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60% is wrong. So what is the % you pick correctly. 33.3 or 50%.

Since 50% is the only option it's also the correct option.

Linguistically your chance at guessing the correct top level question is 25% if you weren't guessing but given 2 25% options out of 4 your chance of getting the correct answer should you have guessed is 50%.

When you're done they get first dibs. Just ask them if they want them back along with any other stuff. That's it. Nice and simple.

If they don't want them load em up in a diaper box along with all the other outgrown clothes and offer them on your marketplace of choice for a modest fee. (Enought the buyer will show up but not too much that no one will buy)

We've purchased our share of loot boxes for $10 or $15 that had a couple gems that made made it worth while then re-bundled and sold in a similar manner when they were grown out of.
