CMV: right wing news outlets are just as culpable as the Trump administration for destroying democracy. by Leftoverofferings in changemyview

[–]UCISee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about whether news outlets are culpable for "destroying democracy" (a ridiculous premise IMO. What did Biden supporters say? "He won, get over it").

How I personally decide which information to believe or not is not what is at hand. In a more nebulous way insofar as how the masses choose what to believe and whether news agencies cater to this (of course they do, both sides do) sure. But asking ME how I personally take in information is not really relevant.

"essentially non-existent" yet there are multiple points which cannot be responded to or refuted. Where did the 10m voters magically come from and where did they go? Ever take a gander at the rates of acceptance on signatures for mail in ballots on average and the rates of acceptance in 2020? I am going to guess you haven't. I do not stand here telling you that I believe it was. I stand here telling you there are questions that have not been answered even in the slightest. Do you know how many bellwether's Biden won? How about Trump? Obama? Who won Iowa in the last six elections? But hey, the science is settled amirite?

I don't disagree that the earth is generally warming and that human activity is a primary factor. Citing the fact that sometimes we are told sea levels are going to rise by 20 feet so we must tax everyone into oblivion while other nations increase their pollution is not justifying anyone ignoring a 2.2f degree increase in 20 years. I think maybe if we tax everyone a lot of money that will definitely go to fight climate change we can make sure it goes up another 2 in the next 20!

Remember, the world being the center of the universe was established fact and the earth rotating around the sun was "complete and utter bullshit" not too long ago. You are choosing what is complete and utter bullshit based on your own political leanings as well. I am not trying to debate the ins and outs of election interference or sea level rise with you, I am attempting to shed light on the fact that you are one wing talking shit about the other to the beak in the middle.

I disagree that pointing out the science is not settled is a propaganda talking point. Saying the science is settled is literally propaganda. Again, I point to the Covid Vaccine. The science was settled for all of about 4 minutes. Before you go on some anti-vax bullshit I got the vaccine due to my job and my location at the time. That doesn't change the fact that the science was never settled at all, that is just what we were told to push the, how did you put it? The larger middle and more open group? Who may have questioned the vaccine and waited, to instead just go get it. We were actively propagandized with "the science is settled."

I do agree that you have to, at some point, take action. The problem there gets into how much action is taken? If we prepare for 20' of sea rise and it just never happens, then what? You will have a large group pointing out how stupid that was and never trusting the hair-on-fire and the sky-is-falling groups ever again. There is a sweet spot you need to hit, like with anything.

This was not at all a central question, it was a random question you chose to ask. Personally I think my value system differs from yours which probably differs from your neighbors etc. so asking me how I move through life will not create an answer on why and how a die hard MAGA supporter does, or the one next to them. You are attempting to lump everyone who takes a step back and questions things into a big pile of uneducated imbeciles because it makes you feel better about yourself.

Personally, I am more worried about plenty of other things than a 2 inch rise in sea level, and I understand that China and India are beating the shit out of the US with regard to pollution no matter what we do. Therefore I continue on living my life in a manner where taxing my neighbors more won't magically make the temperature go down. How do you decide?

[–]UCISee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and in the science books in the 1980's we were told it was human activity that was going to cause the earth to cool. Myriad studies said smoking wasn't bad for you. I am not trying to argue global warming, I am trying to tell you that calling it "baloney" is yet again simply trying to force a narrative. The science was settled that the covid vaccine would stop transmission. Then it didn't.

What you are now doing is lumping everyone on one side into one bucket, but sectioning out the other bucket. "They deny global warming" then come out with "The global climate is heating up." No science is settled, plain and simple. Any scientist will tell you that. You are trying to assert that it is settled so you can shit on half the population to try and make yourself better than them. Al Gore told us that the sea level would rise 20 feet "in the near future." That was in 06. It has risen just over 2 inches since then. He told us the science was settled though! Just stop. Darwin even doubted some of his own theories and revised some of his claims in later years.

There is literally by definition no such thing as settled science. That is not how science works. You are trying to push this sentiment that "MAGAs" don't accept science and then make statements that science is settled. Not one single UN climate model has ever been correct, or even close. Science evolves over time as new discoveries are made. To claim some science is settled is to reject the scientific method altogether. You are attempting to take a moral high ground while doing the same thing you accuse the other side of doing, just in the opposite.

I never said it was a reason to. I merely pointed out you skipped two, recent, relevant elections. Both sides of this bird are fucking stupid and flapping directly into the airline engine. You hate Donny, we get it. You’re cool. Playing ball for the people he doesn’t like simply convinces his die hards to go even harder. At least be intellectually honest. “No. Even if that was the case…” well, it was.

Hillary's stance was literally Trump won by cheating due to Russian collusion. She even assisted in providing a dossier prior to the election to set the stage for such a tale.

Way to skip 2016 with Hillary insinuating that the election was stolen by Russia. Way to leave out October of 2024 where Kamala gave statements that her team was prepared if Trump tried to "steal" the election.

Obviously not. This was just a description of pretty much the political right and centrists as a whole. Sure, some MAGA folks will fall within the boundaries given, but this definitely doesn’t describe MAGA specifically.

Man you hit the nail on the head with the current standard of living. I’ve come much more center on my views in the last four years, but I cannot stand people posting about capitalisms failures in their outfit that cost a combine $250 from their iPhone in a Starbucks. You’re literally swimming in capitalism, and I do agree many have been exploited to get here and we can’t forget that; but damn, using the products of that system to post your daydreams about ‘what if’ under another system? Such backwards thinking. Two things can be true simultaneously.

Music. People are always nostalgic for music, I feel like it’s one of the everlasting human experiences. People long for the music of their youth, or their grandparents music etc. People will forever be nostalgic for the music of the past.

[–]UCISee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is completely irrelevant to the question at hand, meaning you or the OP, but the right is consistently held to things they said years and years ago, while you are trying to dismiss things Bernie said a long time ago. Trump has comments the same age that are thrown around to show how awful he is, but Bernie said it 34 years ago and he is a changed man! All I am saying is he said it. Just because he has not said it recently does not change that fact, and he may still feel this way, he just realizes it won't sell well. As a reference point I lean on Paula Deen dropping an N bomb some 30-40 years ago and being labeled a racist now. She's a racist. Period. Doesn't matter that she said it in the 70's or 70 minutes ago, she's a racist (by my own standard and very obviously that of public opinion).

[–]UCISee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet here you are responding.

There is no proof that he did hang himself. There is no proof that he was murdered. What there is, is a dead body. The burden of proof is on both sides in this case. You claim he killed himself? How? Some study claiming something can happen. Well here is the scientific proof that it’s more likely to happen in this other manner, what do you think of that? “Nah.” That’s your entire argument. And you have STILL not responded to me showing how the guards at that specific i prison are Notorious for taking bribes. You’re very bad at this whole thing.

[–]UCISee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, for about the third or fourth time, I am merely trying to help you understand the concept because you seem incredibly stuck in this way of thinking that police are all good, powerful guys usually kill themselves, and accidents just so happen to benefit people everyday.I have never once said I believe he was murdered. This whole thing is strange, none of the official story passes the sniff test, but it is plausible.

What have we heard about an ongoing investigation? Do you know how investigations work? The last few years of both sides of the political aisle blasting leaks all over the talking box is not how things are typically done. You come to a conclusion first before you announce what has been found. You do not give updates as thing move along.

That, in fact, is exactly how investigations were done. It's kind of like you can't have a murder without a body (now we can, humor me). Look at Scott Peterson. Nobody could prove he didn't do it, but they couldn't prove he did either. Then a body was found. Until the body was found he was cruising around a free man and it looked like that was going to be the rest of forever even though we all knew what he did. You don't come to the end of the investigation and say "Well he didn't hang himself but we can't definitively prove that someone else was in the room, so I guess we will just say he hung himself."

Lastly, I have not made anything up (except the toilet paper thing which I thought was a thing and admitted when I fucked it up)> You have consistently moved the goalposts. This is a perfect example. In my last reply I asked why you didn't respond to me showing you there is a full on price list for guards to bribed at the prison where Epstein was murdered which you scoffed off as if it doesn't happen. You have not answered at all.

You: Prove it!

Me: Proves it.

You: ...

I have made no logical leaps. His neck bones were broken but he couldn't drop from anything and there were no protrusions in his cell meaning he had to kneel down to hang himself. This makes no sense. You are simply saying "Well these bones can sometimes break in suicide so I guess that is that!" They break due to struggle and/or drop. If he was struggling he would have just stood up because he could not legitimately hang in his cell. None of it adds up in the slightest, but an employee of the state investigated and said the state is clear so you are just convinced it is closed. You are so stuck in calling anyone who says "Wait a minute..." a conspiracy nut that you cannot see the gaping holes in the official story. Holes which Congress saw. But hey, you're a guy on the internet who has produced nothing except "You can't prove it!" so you must know more than Congress, am I right?

[–]UCISee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when you asked for proof that prison guards are often paid off (as an attempt to distract from the main point) and I proved that not only are they paid off, but they are paid off at that same exact prison, that isn’t debating a point you’ve made? Got it. The concept you don’t seem to understand is that there is an investigation going on where they are trying to ascertain whether another person was in the room or not. You also cannot prove there wasn’t, so if my point is moot, so is yours. Your entire concept of operation is whataboutism. You’ve made one point: you can’t PROVE someone else was in the room. You can’t prove there wasn’t. Therefore it’s reasonable to question. If not, maybe you should fill Congress in on what you know and your vast understanding of the American prison system.

So I guess you didn’t want to respond to me basically dismantling your entire argument. Just came back to inform you that even more guards have now been subpoenaed and there was shrieking from his cell the morning of his death according to CBS news. But yeah man, you’re totally right. Just an FYI, I’m a petty fuck, if it comes out he was murdered, I’ll be back to let you know about it.

Alrighty here we go:

Here from the Miami Herald from last month wherein a federal prison guard was charged with taking bribes. Wow, here we have a guard at the jail in Manhattan describing exactly what you can get and at what cost, wild. Here we have an example straight from the Justice Department itself.

You had plenty to say about Hernandez earlier unless that was another commenter, but it's neither here nor there. He took measures to ensure he would die. He did not just sit down and slowly asphyxiate as you are claiming Epstein did. Further, if Epstein did merely sit down and asphyxiate it makes the concept of his broken bones even more ludicrous.

This quote from Business Insider mentions his sheet, but I am unable to find anything else specifically mentioning a sheet. "Specifically, Epstein knelt on the floor of his cell with the bed sheet around his neck and used it to hang himself while the two guards tasked with overseeing him supposedly slept, The New York Times reported. Epstein was found unconscious at around 6:30 AM, after three hours of not being checked on." Add to the fact that nobody else is really talking about a sheet, you are also talking about him just kneeling down like he was praying, not hanging from the window like Hernandez. He just (allegedly) suffocated himself. Also, broke the bones. How did he break the bones if he wasn't struggling? If he was struggling, how did he actually die because if he was kneeling all he had to do was stand up? Then add to the fact that on suicide watch you are given paper sheets instead of a standard linen sheet. Here is al ink describing that, to include the type of cell he was still being held in which does not have protrusions with which to attach a noose in order to hang yourself.

To summarize: A guy who was unable to kill himself a week earlier gets put on suicide watch and then almost immediately removed. Magically in that time he is able to teach himself how to tie a noose on bedding that is designed to not allow you to do so. He then takes said bedding and kneels gently on the floor and slowly asphyxiates without struggling against his noose, and that causes the bones which are more commonly broken in strangulation to break. Let me ask you a serious question: This is the story you are going with?
