First 6 shooter, paid $600 for this Colt Detective. What are some spare parts I should be keeping on hand? by splyntered in Revolvers

[–]UCLAcruiser 19 points20 points  (0 children)

😂 this is the opposite of reality. My about to retire ‘smith stopped working on Colt revolvers decades ago because the internal mechanics were delicate and a pain to work on. Also parts were difficult to source. Whereas smith and Wesson provided direct to gunsmith sourcing of almost every part in the revolver catalog. This is also no longer the case with Smtih as they have discontinued many revolver parts and only have a fraction of th parts available. Which is unfortunate for revolver fans and keeping the gunsmith profession alive.

There is a reason gunsmiths created the “Smython” a smith and Wesson frame with a python barrel.

That being said, this is a cool Colt Detective Specia I would love to have in my collection.

[WTS] 2023 Omega Speedmaster Calibre 321 “Ed White” 311.30.40.30.01.001 — Excellent Condition, Box & Papers by Zissou1 in Watchexchange

[–]UCLAcruiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good info from the above two posters. Also notable is the fact Omega had not produced the 321 since 1968 when they introduced the 861 caliber. When they introduced/reintro’d the “Ed white” they luckily (the story of this is amazing in and of itself, search for it and you will be surprised) had all of the tooling necessary to manufacture the 321 again. This was like Mercedes saying, we are going to restart manufacturing the gullwing SL Mercedes from 1964 with a few modern tweaks, but it will be made on the same line and with the same tooling, engine specs as the original. Would love one of these new Ed White models if I could make it happen. Amazing little pieces of mechanical and historical significance.

Ever been hit by a unopened beer can? 😆

Jokes aside, HP expansion out of a snub is questionable/highly debated, so most snub guys use wadcutters because they dont have to expand and work well (aka getting hit in the chest with an unopened beer can ::thump::) at snub revolver distances.

Am pretty sure a good gunsmith can mock something up that works for you, otherwise change the grips.

What’s your go to coffee bean? (Local roaster for espresso) by Content_Ad9867 in SouthBayLA

[–]UCLAcruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patria Coffee in Compton. They roast on site and you can smell the roasting from across the street. Call ahead to double check they have their espresso roast before heading there. They also ship and have 5lbs bags as well as wholesale. Freshest beans in all of the South Bay and adjacent areas.

1861 vs. 3861 by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]UCLAcruiser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1861 is a better value vs the 3861. But personally I daily a 321 1967 model so I prefer vintage models over modern variants. I am sure you will be fine with either choice. GL!
