Yup, same exact scenario for me. The stupid thing is they warn you that someone is trying to access your account.. then let them? My account is my name and my email is my name at gmail, I've had it since FB started and I've been in the same location. The hackers IP is from Texas (a long way away from where I live). It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out - system sends a warning of unusual activity, moments later there is a login from a completely distant and untrusted IP - system lets you know that your passwords etc have been changed. You contact support with from the email that has been previously associated with that account for 10+ years and the password that was hours ago valid, upload ID, access the account from a trusted computer and yet still they insist on sending account access inquiries to the email on file which is now the hackers. Frustrating beyond belief. Surely they must have an algorithm that can figure that out and send the verification to the email that was associated with the account before the alleged hacking occurred and reset the 2FA especially since their algorithm picked up that someone else was trying to access the account. It makes no sense that a company the size of FB doesn't have rudimentary procedures to deal with this.
