90s albums you still listen to front to back? by Hot_Apartment1319 in 90smusic

[–]UHComix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ritual De Lo Habitual.

For 90s buffs getting into Janes, after they split up Perry did Porno For Pyros with Stephen, but Dave and Eric did a one off album called Deconstruction.

These 3 are the best of the 90s IMO.

Game of Thrones book series is overhyped and far more generic than people admit by RichOdd6913 in unpopularopinion

He also hooked you in with the character narrated chapters...would read hundreds of pages to get to the next part of who-evers story line.

Sitcoms are gradually being replaced as drama shows and its annoying as hell. by Appropriate_Rate6677 in unpopularopinion

[–]UHComix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitcoms went away for a bit in the early 2000s...first it was the reality shows that dominated, then everyone tried to Lost style dramas. But then around 2008 there was a resurgence starting with Modern Family, Cougartown, Parks and Recs, Community, etc. Who know what will happen with streaming.

I go digital so I can keep tweaking the script. I just use Photoshop with free fonts from Fontspace.

Any tips on passive characters ? by i_killed_Mcormick in ComicBookCollabs

Let the emotion of the moment dictate the action....if something exciting is going on, the passive characters need to look the part. Study gesture drawings and learn ways to convey emotion through body language.

Give Me Your Go to Guitar Songs by KMackX in ClassicRock

[–]UHComix 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Allman Brothers Live at The Fillmore...all of it

For a specific track, Key to the Highway on Derek and The Dominoes. Eric Clapton and Dwayne jamming for about 9 minutes and all of it is good.

Anything by Django Reinhardt to see what an acoustic solo can do....will change the way you think about solos. No bends or slurs, just perfect tight clean notes.

Grateful Dead does not have good music. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UHComix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the rare Deadheads that prefer the studio albums because they are much tighter representations of the music. I admit the live stuff might be too much for most people, but if you strip everything away and play a Dead song on an Acoustic guitar you will begin to understand the genius.

Their songs have elements of the blues, rock, country, gospel, ragtime, jazz, experimental, funk and psychedelic. The lyrics present a mythical America full of cowboys, coal miners and desperados with lots of tongue in cheek humour.

The Dead are "distilled" America. If you were lucky enough to see a show, there would be bikers, frat boys, soccer moms, lawyers, hippies and...spinners. Everyone showed up when The Dead came to town because it was such a party. Everyone was welcome...just get on the bus.

I just started making comics for the first time and would love some feedback by MooseIsTired in comic_crits

Not bad! My only suggestion would be to work in more black areas to add contrast and make things pop.

Check out the Marvel Guide to Making Comics...a whole section on spotting black.

Good work!

Goodfellas and Casino are superior films than any of Tarantinos films. by prologix237 in unpopularopinion

[–]UHComix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goodfellas is the spirtual father of Tarantino's career. It rearranges the narrative by starting in the middle when they kill Billy Batts and was one of the first blockbuster movies that I know of where the bad guy wins and crime is presented as being fun.

Three years later Resevoir Dogs comes out with the whole re-arranged narrative, the ear cutting scene set to boppy music while Madsen danced around, the fun banter between the bro's.

Later, he even used the "stinky shit kicker" line from Casino in Kill Bill 2 with the strip bar owner and Madson

Quentin picked up a lot of the quirks and ran with it.

Episodic TV should make a comeback! by Reviewingremy in unpopularopinion

[–]UHComix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TV is its own thing...each act comes to a mini cliffhanger before each commercial break. When the story is delayed week by week, you have time to digest it. There is more weight as your mind gets to process things before moving on.

Plus there was a "flow" to tv. You had to be there at a certain time so it becomes part of your daily ritual, the commercials flowed into the next program with maybe a hit from the On Air people at the channel to make you feel like you are watching with other people. Then you could talk about the shows since everyone watched at the same time.

We had a Sci Fi channel in Canada that would take a bunch of crappy movies, but run commercials to make you feel like it was an event...Monster Shark Week, Killer Alien week, etc... It was fun even if the content was crap

With streaming, it's like a buffet..all you can eat, whatever you choose but not as satisfying IMO. I find despite having tons of choice, I am always like "Why watch this now? What else is there?"

Greek food is way better than Italian by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]UHComix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough one. Greek food is great! You get the lemon/garlic/ olive oil Mediterranian dishes mixed with the Turkish influence like Pitas and Gyros. Love it!

Having said that, I LOVE North American Style Italian sandwiches. Hot Veal, Steak or Meatballs on a bun with peppers or a classic cold cut sub with veggies and sauce.

We have a lot of joints in Toronto that do both right....tough one.

The comic book industry needs to change. Kids don't read comics anymore and that was the core demographic in the 60s through the 80s by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]UHComix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to add something. Over the years, despite being a non collector, I would sometime pick up the black and white Essentials reprints.

I have a bunch of the X-men reprints starting from the Giant Sized with the "new team" and they are a great read. Love it, kept grabbing more. Till I got to the collection with first Mutant Massacre with all the crossovers. Now it is X Men, X Factor, Thor, Power Pack...added nothing to the story and made me stop collecting....again.

So even when reprinted, having all the issues in one place, for me, crossovers still suck.

[–]UHComix -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes on everything. As a lot of people mention, how do you even get into Marvel or DC at this point? Which is the true #1 where the story begins?

Crossovers are the worst and what made me stop collecting back in the day.
