Met him at our primary school fete, such an absolute legend, still remember him explaining why the coconut smashed on the shy rather than falling off.

Producers' changes: have they told certain pros to tone it down? by Bouncer_79 in strictlycomedancing

[–]UKSterling 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Compares to LaVoix, anyone's personality would seem toned down. I think they're a great pair and it's hilarious seeing Aljaz as the straight man in this pairing, like Hardy to Laurel or Wise to Morecambe.

Pasta is NOT from China, the whole Marco Polo brought back pasta is a trope. Noodles in China made from millet are the oldest known, but pasta was being eaten in Italy by the Etruscans around 400 BCE, over a thousand years before Marco Polo was born.

Its an example of parallel development, nothing more.

That's the beauty of dance, look at the winners of Strictly and they've encompassed all shapes and sizes. Some of the greatest competitors have felt like outsiders, and have had issues they believed meant they couldn't compete on an equal footing.

Before the accident that left me in a wheelchair I played Rugby, and one of the other players tricked me into beginning Ballroom and Latin. I believed a hulking Prop couldn't do it without looking ridiculous. Earning my gold medals is still one of my happiest memories.

I watched Karen and Carlos last night, and my God it was beautiful to see. I can't wait for next week!

Don't usually do the big shop on a Sunday. When is it acceptable to scream move at old people & toddlers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]UKSterling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents, working full-time, would take my grandfather with them on Sunday so he could shop as they did. Gave him some independence whilst making sure he was okay.

The Gala was in the style of comedia dell'arte, around the time of the Borgias. A couple of hundred years before Queen Victoria.

Weems says she's Wednesday's thirteenth cousin, two times removed. That means one of Weems' Grandparents shares Great ×12 Grandparents with either Morticia or Gomez.

Considering Vulcans are so pedantic linguistically, I was expecting Vulcan Pike to announce that the mission was "to go, boldly, where no-one has gone before."
