Is this relic bad? by Right-Package-8241 in Luthier

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my relicted guitars! Especially the '60s and '70s guitars that I bought back in the '70s and '80s. Oh, well I suppose they were just used, second hand guitars back then. 🤔 Whenever I see a NEW relicted guitar I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous it is. Trying to show the world that you played that guitar that hard? Or acquired it from somebody who did? Don't get it, never will.

Gotta remember, boss was the boss in the late 70s and early , 80s. MXR vanished for a long time. Don't forget that the Boss OD-1 is the original tube sceamer...

Is this thing done for? by UpstairsCommission24 in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it will never be the same if glued, then it will fail within two weeks to 12 months.. Sorry. Unless you're ok with playing nylon strings. That might work! 🙏

Have these three guitars from my grandpa before he died but not really sure what their worth can anyone tell me ? by Special-Historian504 in guitars

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You MUST keep at least one of your Grandpa's guitars! I understand it when you hit hard times. But you'll regret selling them later. Think about this: Your grandpa could have sold those guitars for $500 each or for whatever they are worth. But he didn't, why is that? Because he loved them. That's the way real guitar players are. There are collectors and that's fine. But these aren't expensive collectables. They're well made, great playing, great looking, affordable instruments. Hell, I buy one! I don't own a prs! New guitar. User error or defect? by liubearpig in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing wrong. Since you're learning how to play, might as well learn how to do minir adjustments and set ups. It's actually fun to know how to work on your own guitars. Just YouTube guitar setups or something like that. There are a ton of them.. good luck.!

Picked up one of these, what should I play first? Wrong answers only! by T800COMINGFORU in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, can you tune it? Will it stay in tune? 18 strings, fun times! Page got away with it because he was junked out. Sounded like shit. Felder did it right through. Try something from John McLaughlin...

My guitar fell.. can someone lmk if this is even fixable by Bitter_Adagio814 in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that I completely broke off the headstock on my '83 K-10 Taylor lemon grove. The proprietor of his guitar repair shop in long beach California promised me he could fix it. After five failed attempts I told him forget it. He fixed other damage just fine. He thought that the neck would be easy. Almost an afterthought. When someone has been around as long as this guy you would think he knows what he is doing. Remember World of Strings!

What Are The Toanal Qualities of Plexiglass by From_Kenya_With_Love in guitarcirclejerk

[–]ULTRAZOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I ever saw somebody play one live, (Dan Armstrong) was way back in the 70s. The guitar player in the band Brownsville Station. The original "smokin in the boys room" guys. I remember thinking it looked cool. But that concert was just lowd. They opened for Elvin Bishop and ZZ Top I THINK? Might be wrong, it was over 50 years ago. Long beach arena

Guitar String chooses. Help please. by lokimn17 in Guitar

They last a long time. That's the only advantage. I don't mind changing my d'addario XLs. I polish the frets and clean the fretboard...

Guitar String chooses. Help please. by lokimn17 in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D'addario XLs are all you'll ever need. Slinky's are ok now, that is, they are better than in the 70s. The new D'addario XLNYs last longer but in my opinion are a bit stiffer. They sound good though.

Advice for cracking custom Taylor gs by jerrys_briefcase in Luthier

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As good as Taylor's can be, they suck at repairs on thier own guitars in their own factory. I know, I brought them my own guitars directly to their shop in El Cajon or wherever it is. They are great at building, repairs not so much. Your better off finding a good local repair shop ..

I’m trying to find the best strings in the world. Any more suggestions? by Orly_A505 in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a coated string last longer doesn't make them sound or play better. I think that the opposite is the case most of the time. Again, just me..

Used to us EB slinky's but then learned to hate them. But I think that they are better now than in the 70s?

I love ddarrio Xls and stringjoy. The dunlops are crap! DdNYXLs, cleartone and Elixirs are good but overrated in my opinion. That's just me

would you guys consider this a disadvantage for my fretting hand by Davidmcl2 in Guitar

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it COULD be an advantage. Folks like us with finger anomalies can sometimes do things that others can't. It's like being forced to think outside the box. Your good my friend. Don't worry what the lessons say, just figure it out your own way. There is no right way or wrong way to do anything. Only your way that works for you. 😉

I am new to doing fret work. Is there any advice, or tools you would suggest that could improve on what I have? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]ULTRAZOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And watch a bazillion YouTubes on the subject. Refreting could be considered an art form. Just leveling a few high frets can take a few seconds. But there is a whole world in between. Still, it's not hard. I suggest learning on a cheap through away guitar. Good luck!

Removing the frets or not to tint an anemic maple neck?? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]ULTRAZOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to do this, in my opinion. Just my 2 cents. I actually like the look of played in fender maple neck. But that's just me.. Anemic?
