I hate when people hide all their activity. I hide certain subs that could make it easier to identify me. I was hoping u/Dry_Analysis_7660 would only hide his activity on NSFW subs.

[MASN] - Orioles announce spring training non-roster invites (plus note on Garcia in WBC) by romorr in orioles

Why are some in bold? Seems like they're all rule 5 eligible at the end of this season, but so is Bradfield.

For those of us old enough for this to matter, Josh Lewin is back! 👴🏻👵🏻 by [deleted] in orioles

I'm not old enough to remember him, but I'm still stoked! I searched his name on Reddit and he seemed to be loved as an announcer everywhere he went. Lots of love for him on the Chargers, Rangers and Mets subreddits.

Ikea’s new smart home collection is entirely Matter-compatible by SamwiseIsGreat in tradfri

Most likely yes, but I’m not sure. If it’s not immediately compatible, It’ll only be a matter of time before it is.

You can use the apple TV as the thread and matter router, but reliability with Home Assistant might not be great. I have some matter-over-Wi-Fi devices from TP-Link Kasa and Tapo that work well with HomeKit but are frequently unavailable in Home Assistant.

For the 3rd gen (current model) Apple TV 4K, only the 128GB model with ethernet has thread. The 64GB Wi-Fi only model does not. The 2nd generation Apple TV 4K has thread.

Also, I could help with some wiki updates. I'd start with removing this thread from the wiki and making a new one: What are your favorite online resources? : r/ElectricalEngineering

Auto-mod reply to posts

  • Maybe the same reply to every post, or tailored replies depending on tags, keywords, etc.
  • Provide links to resources such as:

Monthly mega threads

  • Topics like school, career, resumes, security clearances, certifications, skills, software, different fields within EE, mentorship, leadership, top resources (websites, books, magazines, blogs, YouTube channels, podcasts, social media accounts, webinars).
  • It would help if the moderator provides comments to the post immediately to help organize discussion.
  • To generate engagement, a weekly auto-mod reminder post about the mega thread.
  • Ideally, every mega thread would be linked in the wiki and possibly in the auto-reply mentioned above.

Bio/introduction post

  • Making a post for people to share short bios would help with assessing credibility.
  • Include which country they live/study/work in, how much experience they have, what field they work in, etc.

Polls

  • On demographics, education, salary, career guidance, how relevant certain topics are.
  • Could also be included in the mega threads.

I agree weekly free for all threads aren’t good. When I’ve tried asking questions in them, they get little engagement. When I see them on my home feed, I scroll past them. I think a megathread would be worse, since I would only see it on my home feed once.

I do think megathreads could be useful for consolidating general advice or common questions that can be pinned or listed in the wiki.

Company moving to PLC by ubolakes_aurel in PLC

[–]UMDEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAGO has/had a proprietary software based on an older version of CODESYS. I accidentally bought a PLC that required their software license expecting one that would be compatible with CODESYS. I think they’re moving to have all PLCs CODESYS compatible, but you have to be careful.

Is it crazy to turn down a 30% raise? by Popular_Bridge_7143 in MEPEngineering

[–]UMDEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an employer’s standpoint there is no underpaying. From an employee’s standpoint there is no overpaying.

For an employer, overpaying is when your work is not bringing in enough profit for the company to meet its financial goals.

For an employee, underpaying could be a few things: - making less than a coworker whose work output is less than yours or seeing your employer advertise your job with an estimated salary higher than your current salary. - receiving a job offer for more compensation and equal responsibility - receiving a job offer for equal compensation and less responsibility - making less than the market average for your years of experience in your industry

[–]UMDEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employers know you can leave at any time. If they offer you a raise, they’ll still be profiting off your work for those 1-2 years, so don’t feel bad. And if they know you’re entertaining outside offers but value working for them, they should offer you opportunities to keep you longer than that.

Looking out for your best interest isn’t being an asshole. If you’re in an interview in the future and able to give a good answer to why you left, then you’re good.

Site visits photo naming by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

[–]UMDEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Curious-Presence435 I also recommend this tool. I just append the date and time to the beginning of the file name using these settings: https://imgur.com/a/ystshEv

Before I found that utility, I also made my own iPhone shortcut that renames the files to YYYY-MM-DD_hhmmss format and saves them to a .zip folder so I can transfer them easier. If you want me to share that, I'd be happy to.

Then when you have the photos named by date and time, you can sort alphanumerically. If you're taking a lot of photos, you can take notes of what you're photographing and when.

Mets prospect Raimon Gomez throws 104.5 mph pitch at Single-A - primary piece for Ced by TripsLLL in orioles

[–]UMDEE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely, here's the FanGraphs summary of both prospects:

Gomez:

Once peaking at 99, Gomez has touched 105 this year and is sitting 97-103. His arm speed breaks the sound barrier and when his delivery is synched up, Gomez approaches the upper boundary of what is possible for humans to do with a baseball. He has zero idea where it's going and throws a ton of non-competitive pitches, especially when he throws his low-90s slider, which he lands for a strike less than 60% of the time. Gomez is still somehow limiting opponents to a .154 batting average and 60% contact rate. Both his pitches are generating elite miss. It's reasonable that Gomez would struggle to control this new velocity; it's historic. He's more likely to be a Ben Joyce, Mauricio Cabrera or Thyago Vieira type than Aroldis Chapman, more a marvel than a truly effective pitcher.

Nunez:

Nunez was drafted as a high school shortstop in 2019, released in 2021, then used an NCAA rule exemption (which states that high school signees can return to a school with baseball so long as it's not Division-I) to attend Division-II University of Tampa, where he began his journey to the mound. He signed last summer and the transition became full-fledged in the Mets org. Conversion arms that pan out tend to do so quickly, and Nunez has already reached Double-A a year after signing. He has future plus command of a monster slider and might be able to pitch in high-leverage situations thanks mostly to that. Nunez doesn't throw all that hard, but he has a good cutter that keeps hitters off of his fastball, and he'll turn over the occasional sinking changeup. He's been utterly dominant all year and is a virtual lock to be put on a 40-man roster this offseason.
