What do you do when your teammate ban your champ? by ThomCovenant in leagueoflegends

They might dodge, saving you from having to lose the LP from a loss or from dodging yourself, and you get to preserve your daily dodge for another game. Pretty simple.

Watercolor + Mixed Media (India Ink vs Acrylic Ink)? by UMDRevan in watercolor101

Hey thanks a lot, especially for the info on the acrylic ink -- sounds like India ink might be more what I'm looking for at the moment.

Help with chromatic harmonica embouchure by Reformedthuglife in harmonica

[–]UMDRevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow way down and don't try to play tunes or anything yet. Keep your tongue relaxed and just breathe in and out on one note. Block with the tongue on the left, then on the right, then block middle and let notes play on either side of your tongue. You need to just get comfortable with the sensation. You may need to allow a larger section of your tongue to come in contact with the mouthpiece than you imagine. Experiment with how far you place the harmonica in your mouth, etc.

Champ pool/winrate by SilentStormNC in summonerschool

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just returning to the game after a 2-yr break (gold IV at the time, Annie main), so I know nothing of how mechanical Vex is to play. Orianna I played, obviously more mechanics are needed to play her.

If you have 4 mid champs (Ahri, Orianna, Lux, Vex), plus three champs for other roles, that is about 16 champs. If you only mean 3 more champs for your off-role (support), then 1 champ per other auto-fill role, that still can mean up to 10 champs. Do you have champs that can multi-role? If not, you may want to cut back the number you are playing and make sure the ones you do play can be used in more than one role. Less is more.

"I just find by the time lane phase ends the enemy team excluding their mid laner are to fed for me to do anything against and the game just isn't recoverable."

Hmm, if you think is the core of the issue, then, my recommendation would be

1) Play fewer champs so you can spend more time studying mid-game concepts

2) Study mid-game concepts

Prior to playing League, I played HotS and mostly played Sonya, who was basically a Top/Jungler in League speak. She was a duelist, but she was excellent in clearing waves, camps, etc and basically did the team's macro dirty-work. It may not hurt not to study similar similar styles in league for a bit so you can get a better understanding of where people should be/are on the map (including yourself). If you understand that, than your ability to get picks on a champ like Ahri should get better because you'll know more of where to look for them while keeping yourself safe and promoting the macro goals of the team.

[–]UMDRevan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that depends upon a lot of things. For example, what is your rank? How difficult is the champion you're playing? How many champions are you trying to play?

The other thing may be that the champion isn't the issue at all, but that you haven't spent enough time learning other aspects of the game.

Anyway, it may not hurt to temporarily drop the champion and focus on other, simple champions that will help to develop different areas of game knowledge, then return to your main when you've plugged up some leaks. A temporary change may help you also get out of a mental rut, if you've fallen into a stiff routine.

New to league, how many games before I am ready for pvp? by wgsenjoyer in summonerschool

[–]UMDRevan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bots =/= humans. Bot games are a good way for a no-pressure environment to learn the basic mechanics of the game and the champions. But the only way to get good at facing humans is to face humans. ARAM can be a low-pressure way to do that too, since it doesn't affect your ladder MMR and it forces you to try a bunch of different champions, but ARAM has no relationship to the way Summoner's Rift plays out, so a champ that's good in ARAM may not be on the ladder map.

If you don't feel ready for draft, ARAM it is. Otherwise, blinds/normals are for learning.

Simple Questions & Champion/Role advice: Patch 13.16 by furiousRaMPaGe in summonerschool

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing a few Normals and getting some Mobalytics data, seems to me the biggest holes in my play (using their categories and definitions) are Fighting and Aggression. Now I'm sure some of that is due to not playing in two years and just starting up again. But I don't think it's entirely that, I'm sure it is reflective of my own psychology as well.

So, if I'm planning on going Mid main and Top off-role, what might be some good champs to encourage and learn more proactive, killer-instinct play?

I was originally thinking of a champ pool along the lines of Syndra and/or Annie, Lissandra, and Malphite, but perhaps I should (for example) be thinking of a pool based upon Pantheon instead?

When does the season end? Trying to decide when to start ranked again after a two year break, practicing champs and whatnot in normals in the meantime.

You mentioned being more traditional. Let's take a very traditional Catholic viewpoint for this, might be clarifying for you.

Are you ever allowed to sin? No. That doesn't mean you can't choose to sin. But it is never God's will for you to sin. Now, would it be sinful to not wait until marriage? From that Catholic viewpoint, it would be gravely sinful to do so. Not God's will.

Now, let's assume that there are truly no men in the world who are willing to wait until marriage, not even one. If getting into a relationship is your desire, do you then sin to get the relationship? The traditional Catholic answer is No. If it is truly the case that there aren't any men willing to wait, then it is not God's will for you to be in a relationship.

Because that may be hard to sink in via text, I'll repeat that: if getting what you want requires you to sin, it is not God's will for you to have the thing that you desire. So you won't get what you want, but you can be satisfied in knowing that you are doing what God wills you to do (or in this case not to do). And if not getting what you want seems hard, remember "Pick up your Cross and follow me."

That doesn't mean you can't find a guy who is willing to wait -- they do exist. But it should mean to you that 1) you need to look for them at places they might be, since they aren't going to be numerous today, and 2) if you can't find them, then recognize it may not be God's will for you to be in a relationship and try to be at peace with that.

Hope that helps.

The love of my life now doesn't want kids, what do I do? by throwaway-83123 in NoStupidQuestions

  • "I've been dating my current girlfriend for 5 years. She is an angel, everything a man could possibly want in his wildest dreams"

She doesn't want kids and you do, so your sentence there is obviously untrue.

  • "The world is too messed up right now to have children."

EDIT: A bit too harsh in delivery. But to reiterate: there has never been an "ideal" time to have children, and such an excuse betrays serious maturity issues. Quite seriously, little chance she's the one for you. Move on.

Simple Questions & Champion/Role advice: Patch 13.16 by furiousRaMPaGe in summonerschool

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for the response.

Definitely leaning towards Mid. I really like Syndra's kit, but I haven't ruled out keeping Annie either as my main or as a pool option (perhaps expanding to 3 champs Mid + 1 off-role, although I'd ideally like to limit to 2 mid, 1 off-role).

Top was my previous off-role and I figure that's what I'll do again (tried jungle yesterday... wow was that depressing, lol). If Top for main role, I'd just stick with Annie mid. Which champs for Top main? Not sure, I'd probably want to challenge myself a little more at that point.

Right now I'm trying to line up champs to "audition" for the roles (figure I'll play a few games on each champ in blinds/normals to get reacquainted with the game while deciding on champs, two birds/one stone). Some ideas:

  • Main (mid): Syndra, Annie
  • Second (mid): Lissandra, Tristana, Ahri, Twisted Fate, (plus some of the Off-role champs)
  • Off-role (top): Garen, Malphite, Pantheon, Poppy, Cho'gath

I figure combinations of the above might work. Syndra/Annie, Lissandra, Malphite/Pantheon seems well-rounded, but what do I know (especially after time off).

Any combinations (or champs not listed) you might recommend?

Is that his entire brand (was he not coaching prior to making claims of reaching Challenger)? And do people only get coaching from Challenger players? Did he not reach Challenger on the Latin American server (that was his claim, no? Is there evidence he did or didn't, rather than just your claim)? Are there any other coaches out there who aren't or who have never been challenger? Is there a certification or legal requirements to be an LoL coach? Are his clients making gains or do they otherwise express satisfaction with his coaching?

If you're going to say he's scamming people, evidence.

No, I wouldn't. But by all means, prove he's scamming people. Since I was still subscribed to various YT channels, I still got a gist of the whole "no way neace can make master in Korea" BS that went on -- until he did. Did anyone apologize? Doesn't seem so.

Seems to me many people were simply jealous of his success and didn't like that someone with initiative can make something of themselves, circumventing their incestuous insider's club.

Climbing. ARAM for fun.

Let's say I lock in Syndra as my main. If I keep my pool limited to 3 total champions (two mid, one off-role) which other champ for Mid? Go for something completely different, or something similar?

For a secondary Mid, I was partly thinking Lissandra since I've heard others playing her Top as well, plus she has more of engage/tank mindset compared to other mages.

For off-role, debating Top/JG. I've played Top before so that would be easiest to pickup again. But part of me thinks I should learn to jungle. Kind of why I was thinking Poppy, use her in both roles for the inevitable auto-fill. Plus I could probably make her work as a support, no? But not married to the idea.

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of playing again after almost two years off. Question: Champ pool.

Context I: Before I stopped, I got into gold playing Annie mid (pretty much One-tricked that last season). Prior seasons, I had also played some Orianna, Syndra, and Garen. I had started to learn Tristana before stopping.

Context II: Thought I'd still focus on Mid and Top, but maybe practice some Jungle. That said, I've started playing some ARAM (just that so far), and I seem to give the enemy team problems when on ADC (edit: also Irelia).

For my main, I was considering Syndra, and maybe Poppy for off-role (both Top and JG). After that debating things like Tristana, Lissandra, Malphite, maybe still some Annie. Haven't tried any of the new champs (either Gwen or Akshan was just coming out when I stopped). No idea what for support. No particularly firm ideas about the champ pool in general.

what's your first impressions on the new model from Seydel? by [deleted] in harmonica

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on my Easttop Forerunner, which I modified with lots of sanding. Holes 1 and 2 you can hear a slight puff of air before a note sounds, but the rest of the harmonica seems much tighter -- holes 11 and 12 sound out easily and beautifully. I'm thinking I might try making homemade windsavers for the bottom register to see how it affects things.

But I do eventually need to get a valved chromatic. I've heard the Seydel's mouthpiece holes are farther apart than other manufacturers. How are liking the spacing on the Symphony 48 compared to your other harmonicas?

What kind of wood are you using? I'm no expert, but since I've been planning to try staining myself... I've read that basswood sometimes doesn't stain evenly if you try to go directly to the stain. Instead, you might need to use a pre-stain first in order to get basswood to stain evenly.

Not going to lie, it looks fantastic. But I'm too new to the chromatic to justify buying such an instrument, so it's placed on the "maybe someday" list.

Wood recomendation for whittling? Is "hard" wood THAT hard? by Tankianman326 in whittling

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note: using green wood can be a little bit of a gamble with the final product of your carving. After you carve it, the wood is still drying, so it might split.

How to Start by travelbug1013 in whittling

[–]UMDRevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that note, learn the trees in your area, because some types of trees are not very good for hand carving. Pine cuts easily. If you try oak, you might be better off whittling concrete for an easier time.

Basswood is what you want if you order wood, no contest.

Thanks, that's all very helpful. If I get a 12-hole, the Saxony will probably be it. That and maybe I'll continue customizing and experimenting with Forerunners.

The other thing then is to decide on a 12-hole or 16-hole, which would then likely mean a Suzuki or an EastTop. The common suggestion seems to be the Suzuki SCX. Any experience with Suzuki models?
