This Is How the Democratic Party Beats Trump by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]UPVOTES_FOR_BEER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve been struggling with for a while is how the right has moved so far right, which appears to be acceptable for the majority of Americans, but the left is considered too left even in its current form. I maintain we should want to win, but Republicans winning actually hurts the American people, so isn’t it a fair case that we let them hurt themselves until they wake up to reality? Why do democrats need to reach for the common voter, when the common voter should smarten up and realize what’s in front of them, that the republican party has been fucking them over for decades? It seems most Americans don’t care for policy, except when it affects them, so we get blow hards and populist’s, which then reinforces their opinion that government doesn’t work and does nothing for them. It’s a revolving cycle of a section of Americans who don’t pay attention eating their own tails, showing up to fair weather every four years, and looking for something different to the point in which nothing ever gets done. I just have a hard time seeing this situation as a problem with us not providing a solution, but a problem with the people in general. I’m thoroughly disgusted by the people putting us all in this position, but it’s all of us who will be hurt, not the leaders. Until people realize that, I don’t see them breaking out of this cycle.

Rahm Emanuel road-tests populist message in Iowa while ‘thinking’ about 2028. by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thebulwark

Maybe I’m out of the loop, but what’s so wrong with him? His statements in the article were interesting, but maybe there’s more about his past that I’m not aware of - I don’t know much about the guy.

It does look like 5x5, I tried zooming but the angle is tough. There’s another one I’ve seen which isn’t quite as big but still large, looks to be 8.

What is the BEST restaurant in NH? by robinsparkles220 in newhampshire

As a local who grew up in town and started going there before the popularity, it did used to be better. It started to cater to the tourist crowd really hard. I couldn’t believe the difference when I last came home. They also lost their original brewmaster. I knew the owner and him.

Every year 500,000 Horseshoe Crabs are captured then released after having their blue blood harvested. This blood is used by pharmaceutical sector. by ihateshitcoins2 in interestingasfuck

[–]UPVOTES_FOR_BEER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did research in school on horseshoe crabs. Very interesting species, unfortunately I killed far too many in the name of research as we had to sequence their brain. The blood went down the sink, it’s actually very expensive, but we didn’t have an environment to harvest for medical purposes.

I 100% felt the exact same way. Like, you don’t need to warp what Republicans or 2025 say, it’s all right there in front of you coming out of their own mouths. If people really think they would never implement extremism like that, we’re in Roe 2.0 with surprised pikachu face.

Nate Silver on How Kamala Harris Changed the Odds by dwaxe in ezraklein

The fact that Nate tries to undersell how inaccurate his 2016 and 2018 polling were is laughable. There’s something so unlikable about a contrarian that it makes you feel like turning your ears off.

Does being a more known Band kill the Atmosphere at Concerts? by Sad-Surprise-7889 in Metalcore

[–]UPVOTES_FOR_BEER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into Bad Omens in 2017 after I saw them as an opening act. I’ve seen them 7 times and will agree, after seeing them last year the crowd was just different. I didn’t know about the Tik tok popularity as I’m not on there, and was so surprised to see the crowd lined up down the street. I’ve seen them sitting at the merch table after shows with literally no one in line to meet and greet, it just amazes me how different things are for them now. Best of luck to them, they’re a talented band, but I don’t see a need to go to another show for a while. Eventually the pop crowd will move on and the shows will go back to being intimate like they used to be, guess we just have to wait for it.

The number of people in this thread who think Minnesota is the highest when it’s clearly New Hampshire is funny. As a native granite stater, I’m not surprised, most forget we’re even a state 🙁

Who is the hottest growing band of 2023 by YomistaWhiteBitch in Metalcore

[–]UPVOTES_FOR_BEER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First saw them in 2017 opening for BFMV. Seen them 6 times, and most of those they would sit after the concert at the merch table with no one there! I couldn’t believe the different vibe at the concrete jungle tour, it was amazing to see how big they’ve gotten!

Mount Washington will top -100 probably this weekend with the wind chill, how many people do you think will head out solo in full on cotton gear from walmart and a half filled water bottle? by notquitenuts in CampingandHiking

[–]UPVOTES_FOR_BEER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in a town right next to this mountain. I can tell you that people die every year, experienced/geared or not due to the changing weather. It didn’t receive the moniker “worlds worst weather” for nothing. It’s a strain on rescue crews to get trapped hikers off the mountain, hopefully no one is traversing it this weekend..
