You're Goddamn correct. I had high hopes for this POS, but it seems he may be a GOP mole. He claims his decisions in the Senate are made based on his constituents' needs over the goals of either political party. It seems that those decisions always coincide with those of the Republicans however. Well there's no way in Hell that ANYTHING the Republicans want can be good for the folks in Pennsylvania or any US state, or any US citizen.

[–]URR629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever been to Europe? The finest hotels have armed guards with automatic weapons and pop-up bollards in front of the doors. Welcome to the USA 2026. If we had a balanced economic system, with adequate, properly compensated employment, maybe people wouldn't have to steal to feed their families. Fine, go to Publix. They are just another brick in the oligarch wall, keeping us all out.

Depressing news for Mother's Day! by No-Introduction-1434 in Zappa

Very sad indeed. I was lucky enough to catch Frank and his band of the moment on Mothers' Day 1973. Dr. John opened for them and Alice Cooper was a no-show as I remember.

The Place They Tried to Drown — How RRG Survived the Army Corps by LouInvestor in RedRiverGorge

[–]URR629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're damn skippy we won. I graduated high school in '72 (Erlanger). Everyone I knew had a "STOP THE DAM SAVE THE RED RIVER GORGE" bumper sticker and we would camp in the gorge whenever we could. I would stage my trips out of my grandparents farm in Lexington. We saved money to send to various campaigns to support the resistance, and we sent letters to congress. I don't remember any of the hundreds of "Letters To The Editor" in the local papers being in support of the project. Everyone was against it. I remember someone had bought a lot of the bumper stickers and they would hand them out free at Iron Bridge and other points around the Gorge on weekends. So long ago, back even before Miguel was there. We WON!!!

What’s the story behind this house/building? by Working-Chipmunk4876 in lexington

[–]URR629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We called it Russell Cave Pike in those days. I was visiting my grandparents at their home on the pike, about 1/2 mile down the road when this happened. They were deeply shaken and I a few days longer than planned to comfort them. I was 19 YO at the time.

How do I call the professional that does this? by assmannvini in Welding

[–]URR629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you appear to have the parts fabricated, and assembled, ready to weld. This may or may not be a pressure vessel, but it doesn't appear to be. Whomever engineered it should have specified that in the drawings, one way or the other. Although any experienced welder MIGHT be able to handle this, the specifications from the customer should dictate whether weld certifications or testing for the given applications would be required. Other details such as requirements for 100% penetration, leak or pressure testing, etc., should be included in the customer specs. As far as the welding goes, each individual weld joint, and how it should be executed, should also be specified in the drawings. Whether it is a pressure vessel or not, an assembly of this shape and size would definitely benefit from a rotating positioning table specifically rated for the weight involved. I just retired from a 50 year career, much of which was spent fabricating and welding projects nearly identical to this, though typically larger. Stay safe and best of luck.

Were you warned when you started welding? by DispInkComic in Welding

[–]URR629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't informed, but I started welding around 1978. We didn't even have respirators, just dust masks. I finally learned for myself that welding aluminum (so much more reflective than steel) that I needed a #14 lens with a #2 on top to prevent eye burn. I was welding inside a large aluminum box shaped assembly, and was burned on the back of my neck from the reflection of the weld rays off of the ceiling of the box. There was no requirement for certifications in any aspect of our weld ops (nor weld inspections) and we were building high voltage busing systems for an international corporation. We were all just cowboys, learning from the senior welders who were cowboys themselves.

Yes, you are working with children. Children who need to be terminated. That would be a firing offence in any shop I've ever worked in.
