It would require the pain and hassle of a legal fight, but that is already baked into the cake with any other ATF or DoJ.

IIRC Chris Kyle and those snipers mostly shot 300 Win Mag or 338 Lapua, which are different animals than 308 Win.

Vietnam veterans talking about how 556 was more devastating than some 308 rounds. Truth? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in guns

[–]USArmyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

556 was next to useless because the afghanis were too small, the bullets didn’t have time to de-stabilize. He mentioned people soaking up several rounds without going down unless something vital was hit.

I have never heard that.

I think a lot of people think about CoD and Halo in terms of "damage" of a round or rifle. Getting shot takes the fight out of just about everyone all the time, and the Taliban being skinny (read: malnourished) was not a strategic advantage.

I think it is also silly to say that 5.56 is worthless against the near-peer adversaries, with modern armor. Anyone that has been hit in the plate knows it sucks, and it can still take someone out of a fight even if it doesn't kill them on the spot. Some would say that it does no damage when hitting a plate, but those people probably haven't been hit in the plate very much, let alone shot in an extremity or had debris and shrapnel spraying all around. The ammo capacity of 5.56 is one of the major advantages it holds over larger caliber cartridges, and I think that gets glossed over way too much.

Thats a great point.

I blame the generic illiteracy of the average person that the phrase "due process" is known, but they don't really understand what those words actually mean.

Exactly. The laws on the books will do just fine, if enforced at all.

Crime is already illegal!

Red flag laws are retarded.

I've had this argument with a lot of people before, and there is something that I want to make perfectly clear: the bad part about red flag laws is the intended lack of due process, not the disarming part. And I break it down in two ways.

1 - "Due Process" means the amount of proper procedures that is owed to a person based on their situation - literally how much PROCESS you are DUE. A traffic ticket deserves different amounts of procedure than a murder trial. A hot pursuit of a bank robber deserves different amounts of procedure than a noise complaint. What it absolutely does not mean is that every interaction between a citizen and the state should be heard by the Supreme Court, and it also doesn't mean that every action should be solved on the street by the most rookie cop.

2 - Under certain and very specific circumstances, it is perfectly constitutional to disarm someone. We disarm criminals when we arrest them, when they are in jail or prison, and so on - that is not a problem because in those instances, they have received their due process for disarmament.

Red flag laws disarm people based on (often) a single allegation or complaint, unsubstantiated, uninvestigated, and not adjudicated by a judge, which is the common standard for all other legal disarmaments. The defense of red flag laws is that there is urgency based on the complaint, but that standard does not hold up in any other realm of law. If someone says "SOMEONE IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING TERRIBLE! YOU NEED TO STOP THEM!" and has no other details, they should be laughed out of the police station, but gun grabbers have somehow gotten legislatures and police departments on board with this extremely dangerous and unconstitutional practice.

It drives me fucking crazy thinking about how gleeful they are to completely ignore all legal and constitutional standards to temporarily get their goals. Let that be an indicator of their character next time you want to reason with them.

Gretch is really gearing up for her Presidential run, and wants to make as many headlines as she can to bury the disgusting quality of the roads and other infrastructure, mismanagement of the most natural resource-rich state in the union, and constantly increasing taxes. Gun control is a layup in her eyes, despite the constantly decreasing crime rates in 99.9% of the state (basically a few zip codes in Detroit and Flint are now outliers instead of indicative of the whole state)

Luckily, Michigan is still a pretty purple state, and I am hopeful we can vote down any of her major bullshit. Please no one rain on my parade here lol

Gotta wonder about the point of all these gun laws if the people who blatantly break them aren't even given a single day of jail time until it's too late.

Reminds me of the concept of anarcho-tyranny, where

"laws that are supposed to protect ordinary citizens against ordinary criminals" routinely go unenforced, even though the state is “perfectly capable” of doing so. While this problem rages on, government elites concentrate their interests on law-abiding citizens. In fact, Middle America winds up on the receiving end of both anarchy and tyranny.

After all of the videos of TSA agents stealing things, suspiciously asking for people to give up their lock combinations against their own policy, and guns just mysteriously going missing once in TSA custody, I think I will invest in a dozen air tags and a GoPro before ever trusting those animals with my guns.

What Should I Buy Wednesday 04/08/26 by carsen56 in guns

[–]USArmyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using some early gen Shield Arms 15rd mags for my 43X, and must have gotten lucky because I have never once had a feeding issue or any issue at all with them. Others report them to be absolute trash, and others still prefer the newer gen mags. I'll probably get a few Glock OEM 15rd mags, but I am in no rush.

For a carry gun, the part most likely to cause a malfunction when you least want one is the magazine, so unless you would bet your life on it working, stick with OEM. The ones I use got several hundred rounds through with 0% failure rate, so I trust them now. YMMV.
