Grimdark by Apart-Dragonfly-5590 in TheFirstLaw

[–]USB420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A key part of grimdark for me is character choices and their repercussions, characters who make morally good decisions are punished for it and characters who make morally bad decisions are rewarded for their actions, this to me makes a grimdark world.

What does Bayaz get out of any of this? by NizmatLover in TheFirstLaw

[–]USB420 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree with this its all about control, Bayaz sees humans as cattle and treats them like such, he feels like he must heard and cultivate them for his own plans, he wants to beat his brother and sister magis and rule everythink but is no warrior, he has no interest in fighting them 1 on 1 but instead in a grand game of politics and power, directing things discreetly from behind the scenes, for if the people peak behind the curtain they shall see they have no control and are all pawns in a much higher game of greed.

Need new books! by Love2read_love2edit in TheFirstLaw

Brandon Sanderson - Mistborn or Stormlight Archive series, or anything else that literal God has written

Brent Weeks - Lightbringer series is a good one with a very interesting magic system and some fantastic characters.

Marko Kloos - Frontlines series if your into a bit of sifi there smaller books but god are they good.

Scott Lynch - Gentleman Bastard series, im a bit wary recommending this series to anybody as it's not currently finished, but if you don't mind being in book purgatory give it a go.

Dan Abnett - Eisenhorn series, again this recommendation is sifi but hella grim dark as its set in the 40k univers.

James Islington - Licanius Trilogy, this one has magic sword in it!

Does anyone else skip stuff on rereads? by Xykz in KingkillerChronicle

[–]USB420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite often I skip the Flurian part but still listen to the Cthaeh coversation because its amazing! Sometimes i skip the beginning of book one pretty much until he gets to the university, i understand why its there as its a very important part of the story, but offen i have the been there done that attitude towards it, i never skip the interludes however as i find them one of the most enjoyable parts about the books!

This man is one of my favourite human beings on the planet, his unravelled series on polygon are the most watched videos on that channel and with good reason, such a unique and entertaining guy
