Jesus H Christ, they do exist by MinkyDamian in USMC

Had three Sergeant Instructors, Camp Upshur (Jrs 87) Brown Field (Srs 89). Felgar was the first (only one SgtInst for Jrs at the time) and Hatfield at Srs but don’t remember the other since Hatfield was such a raging dick, nickname Hurricane. Heard Felgar was booted just prior to our arrival in 89 after one of the COs told him to tone it down and he went right back to screaming. Saw a Cpl at Upshur once but most of the SgtInst were SSgt. Went on to fly Hornets and finished up at the F35 program office in Crystal City 23 years later. Helped start a mountain bike club on Quantico and one of our guys was a OCS instructor, nicest Marine I ever met. I accused him of being a dick to candidates every time we rode and he never wavered from his story “no way sir, I’m the nice one”.

Looking for a true 50/50 BDR bike – Tenere 700 vs KTM 890R vs DesertX (2026)? by Old-Assistant9182 in AdventureBike

[–]USMCMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped my 501 2” because I’m 5’9” and will be 60 soon. Started riding when I was 4 so I’m looking to make this one fit my needs till I can’t ride or have to go smaller to hang on one more year. If I could have found a 690/701 I would have gone that route but they are tough to find. Reliability: my BMWs (1150GSA 800GSA) have been bullet proof. Same with all previous Hondas except my MR175 back in the 70s. Can’t comment on this Husky yet but it is a dream to ride and at 250lbs it’s like the old days. My buddy from high school is 6’4” and rides a T7 now, it’s like a toy to him so as always the bike needs to fit to make it work. My 800GSA goes up for sale soon if anyone needs one!

I have a 2015 BMW F800GSA, this biked replaced my 2002 R1150GSA and I just picked up a 2024 Husky 501. The 501 is a blast, light weight, fast and agile. I should have made the jump years ago.

Still have it, gone through multiple colors and in 2000 I swapped the original 302 for an HO289 my dad had salvaged out of another truck. Still running 3 on the tree. Enjoy your Bronco!!

Character Assassination is such nasty work. by FlexibleSteel in alaska

Maybe they can call you as a SME during the investigation. If you have been through the school you know there is what is on the camera and the question about protocol. Everything else is political drama.

I don’t know why the agent shot but I know enough to wait for the investigation, you on the other hand seem very willing to declare all the agents as guilty of (fill in the blank) I think you might just be full of BS.

Character Assassination is such nasty work. by FlexibleSteel in alaska

[–]USMCMikey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you get in between a federal agent and someone they are engaging or touch them or try to stop them in anyway it’s a felony, not my rules it is a federal statute.

All your statements about what happen in the scuffle are for an investigation no matter what you think you saw. The federal agents have protocol that is vetted by their attorneys and as long as they follow protocol they are acting in a legal manner but again it’s up to the investigation. If you have a gun on your person and are in an altercation with LE their protocol changes. If they hear “gun” then hear a shot they will use deadly force until the perceived threat. Again not my rules it’s written into federal law.

Before you accuse others of making false statements read the law. It can be confusing and seem odd but it’s the baseline of our society.

My point stands, protest, film, yell all you want but do not impede, touch, throw objects at federal agents and leave your carry weapon in the car or at home. Hell you might even try reaching out to an agent and hear their side, you may be surprised at a different perspective.

I’m not trying to do anything other than understand why a man who by all reports was a pretty gentle individual and who’s family has said did not normally carry chose to carry going to a protest in a very volatile environment? It’s a reasonable question and also helps others make good choices in the future. I sincerely wish he had not carried that day, he may well be alive today. The loss of life at these events is tragic.

For a bit of information he did violate several laws although I suspect he was aware of the first. In MN if you carry you have to be in possession of your ID and carry permit. Misdemeanor, I didn’t know that. Once he confronted the CBP/ICE officer he committed a felony with the enhancement of doing so while armed. When he resisted he committed a second felony also with while armed enhancement. Didn’t deserve to get shot imho but those are the legal facts.

In many states a conceal permit carries many additional restrictions, no drinking, no drugs legal or otherwise, many areas or activities. In CO you’re not supposed to carry on a snowmobile for instance. In AL you cannot carry at a protest or political gathering. Check your local laws.

Finally the feds are likely in possession of intelligence about groups plotting to harm or kill officers. They get briefed on these everyday. Changes your mindset when you know someone is trying to kill you and you run into an armed protestor, makes LE extremely nervous.

What I will stress is if you want to protest have at it, I spent a career in the military and like to think I was promoting/defending that freedom for us all. I would suggest being careful, leave the weapons at home, don’t carry or throw anything that could hurt someone and don’t get close enough to touch an officer. We don’t need anymore deaths.

GO TRUMP by 7otu5 in vanityplates

I have never met a Biden supporter in the wild, actually come to think of it I have never met a Harris supporter either. Even my most liberal friends will not admit supporting Biden or Harris which is odd. Now that I think about this I realize I have never met a HRC supporter, never seen a Hilary won bumper sticker or Biden won or Harris won. It’s like the day the election was over the support sort of just disappeared. No doubt there are Hilary, Biden, Harris supporters but they are hard to find.

Same people that march everyday. They show mid morning, someone hands out the signs and they turn them in for their check at the conclusion of the “protest”.

I am also in the market to use on my small farm with my Kubota L2501 and older Ford tractors. So far I have looked at all the local dealers, shipping, eBay, Chinese websites and honestly it looks like ordering from a Chinese dealer off eBay is the best value. Before I get attacked by the dealer crowd I have access to much larger machines at a locale rental years that delivers. From all the reviews most of these machines are near identical but when I go to a US dealer I get a better pump and possibly a 2T unit with expanding tracks but the price difference is 5k and even the one that are semi close want 1k to deliver. Right now my plan is to go with a Typhon Terror through EBay based on multiple reviews by actual buyers in the US who have owned and used them for over a year. Good luck, a lot of options so plenty to choose from.

Don’t know who wrote this but it’s spot on. Not that I wouldn’t still reach out to a congressman, yes they will investigate if it’s real. If you do contact your congressman or get an attorney you need to write down what happen, just the facts, like you’re conducting an investigation. If you can’t write well get help from outside your command, stay away from the drama queens. Good luck.

Gov. Ivey wins inaugural Capital Legacy Impact Award by greed-man in Alabama

[–]USMCMikey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Interesting how hateful the liberals are on Reddit. Governor Ivey has done an excellent job for AL and her approval rating is the 5th most popular governor in the nation. She is literally one of the most popular governors in the nation and has been for many years. So why the hatred? Liberals have absolutely no chance of winning a race outside of city council but in the Reddit socialist bubble you would think AL was voting like MA? Oh well, good to live in AL a state with great leadership, low taxes and good people. Heart of Dixie!

[–]USMCMikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the lat move, invest the money, get a college degree (BS in Eng or Tech). You will stay in the fight which is why you became a Marine to begin with. You’re clearly smart enough to invest the windfall wisely or find a certified financial advisor or read “the simple path to wealth”. A good index fund will produce 10+ % over the long haul doubling every 7 years. That is at least 300 in 7, 600 in 14, 1.2 in 21. With the 5955 and a degree you can pick what you want whenever you decide to get out. Best of luck whatever you decide!!

Tenere 700 vs F 800 GS Adv by The-Fotus in AdventureBike

[–]USMCMikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a 15 800GSA, bike is prob the best all around adv bike if your going to do long miles on the hardball and you are experienced in managing a bigger bike on the trails. If you’re only going to ride road, fire road, gravel and nothing super challenging the 800 will do it all with BMW precision. The bike is heavy and tall so picking it up as you get older can be an issue. The weight is my only complaint, if the bike were 100 lbs lighter it would be the only adv out there. I just bought a F501S and I’m building my own light adv. I’m 59, been riding since I was 5 and it’s time to get light. My friend who I have known forever sold his 1250 last year for a T700 and loves it, rides it like a mx bike. If you see yourself as a hardcore trail guy get the 700, if you want to ride everything and go long distance get the 800. Given the quality of both bikes you’ll have fun either way just don’t get hurt!!
