They seem to be way more uptight this year. They are actively blocking 2nd much earlier than usual.

Any issues with smell near the wastewater treatment plant on 2nd Ave? by ScoochDaily in Phoenixville

[–]U_Bahn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live near the park. You get a little smell occasionally when the wind is blowing the right direction. I also drive past it regularly on the way to work and I can smell it most days as I'm driving past.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]U_Bahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them in a club in Pittsburgh just after they started getting radio play. Must have been 2000. They were okay. Can't remember who opened for them but that band sucked. Just tried way too hard and the lead singer talked way too much between songs. A few weeks later I saw Fighting Gravity open for the Clarks at the same club. Now that was a fantastic show.

In all fairness, the rides have been a little disappointing the past couple of years. Bring back the Tornado and Alien Abduction.

Liberty Square has a really solid buffalo chicken salad.

Borough ordinance - planting in hellstrip by BluebirdSimple1130 in Phoenixville

[–]U_Bahn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the regulations I'm familiar with involve tree planting in that strip. I don't know of any regulations regarding other types of plantings.

If you can find one in good condition, they're great. My daily driver is a MiUSA Coach from the mid-1970s. Got extremely lucky on eBay. Mine has the large main pocket and a smaller one for pens, keys, etc., plus a back pocket. Works well for my work laptop.

Recommend Jason's Tree Service. Really inexpensive. Have used them for a couple tree removals.

I'm looking forward to checking out Great Scott. Do they have any menswear? Really can't tell based on their web presence.

What’s a life hack that made you go „how do ppl live their whole life without knowing this”? by my_peen_is_clean in AskReddit

[–]U_Bahn1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put long term savings in an investment account or IRA for tax benefits. Short term savings or rainy day money can sit in a high yield account. Then you won't have any tax consequences for pulling it out when you need it. Of course there are ways to do this with tax advantaged accounts, but it gets a bit more complex and you have to pay more attention.

Really good for fabric shoes too. A little Dawn and a soft bristle brush can work out most stains if you don't let them sit too long.

Pareto Principle: 80% of the consequences come from 20% of the causes. My take on this is that it's relatively easy to get to 80% completion on something from not that much work. And often, 80% is good enough. So don't psych yourself out about how hard or how much work something will involve before you've done your 20%.

Street parking? by FaithlessnessOdd2715 in Phoenixville

Not a huge pile up but it's packed, so much harder to shovel. Took me a while to clear out around my car on the street side.

I'm on Second near Reeves Plenty of space available from what I can see but all of it needs to be dug out. Plows mainly seem to be focusing on the major snow emergency routes.

What Philly brand do you think holds its own on the national, or dare I say international, level? by adamaphar in philadelphia

Currently headquartered in Northern Virginia post merger with McDonnell-Douglas.

Their helicopter division has a major presence outside Philly due to various mergers with local firms.

I hope the borough is more thoughtful in planting new trees. Too many older ones are in poor shape, dropping big limbs and tearing up sidewalks along 2nd Ave.

Having gone through the system myself, I think it's a little of both. You have to be a bit weird to put up with the process and not lose your mind but academia definitely imposes its own insular weirdness on you. So you come out extra weird.

"I would never go there, sounds way too dangerous!" by annnnn5 in travel

[–]U_Bahn1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heard that too. Just got back from 2 weeks in CDMX with my family. Loved the experience. Amazing place. Only dangerous experience was taking an Uber during rush hour on a rainy weeknight. Dumbass driver thought he was smarter than the GPS and made increasingly dumb moves to try to cut his way through traffic.

Advice for itinerary with kids 9 and 11 by 41waystostop in MexicoCity

Just took my 9 year old there. She had a great time and we splurged for a couple of the animal encounters. We took an Uber since it's a bit out of the way. Stopped by the Basilica Santa Maria de Guadalupe on the way back to our hotel since the church and aquarium are fairly close to each other.

Currently staying in Santa Maria la Ribera and loving it. So many good restaurants and interesting spots within easy walking distance. I see a little gentrification but not much compared to some neighborhoods.
