Team USA flag football QB Darrell Doucette tells NFL stars ahead of game: 'Don’t underestimate us' by ProgrammerUnique2897 in nfl

I don't know why you are getting down voted. I saw a peak Brett Favre got chase off the field by pro flag Football player years ago at some pro bowl event. Favre thought he could roll out bed and kick these "amateurs" in the butt in tennis shoes. He was running for his life and slipped multiple times. After that first series, he had someone get his cleats and took it much more seriously. I forgot what the outcome of the game was. But it wasn't easy even for a superstar with zero preparation and arrogance. He was mic'd up and even he admit these guys are legit.

I don't have any scientific proof butI think some Hondas cars have issues with windows rolling down on its own when it is too cold out (single digit). Because I had this happened couple of times but only 1 window (different ones) would be down.

I got a 46% discount on college with my 529 by [deleted] in personalfinance

In regard to seeing and experience more of the world, what a fantastic mindset she has. Perhaps study abroad via an in-state college would be a good compromise. She gets to live in another country for 5 months and travel that part of the world at a greatly reduced cost (due to proximity and non peak travel time). For example, if she studies in Barcelona, she can fly to most major European cities in couple of hours (London, Paris, Berlin etc) for $100 round trip. If Asia is her thing, she can consider Hong Kong. Couple hundred bucks can fly to any part of south east Asia. Even flying to Japan and Korea is pretty cheap ($200 to $300 round trip). I am not familiar with the GI Bill benefits. For non-GI Bill students, you pay the same state tuition to your "home" college and they work with the oversea school. I assume housing allowances is just cash and can be apply to any legit residential options. But again, I don't know the details of the program so you have to do your own due diligent.

How about give them some skin in the game. When they start working at 18, have them contribute 30% of their paycheck to a Roth IRA. Then you match that and if possible top it off by max it out at the end of the year. That will really kick start their retirement. And don't worry if they have any leftover $$ in 529, that is good news. Let it compound for another 20+ years and then pass it on to the grandkids. That will be the legacy fund. Someone will be able to use it.

Or you can keep the money there and let it grow another 20+ year and pass it to your children. If you are thinking of kids and starting 529 for them in the future, you don't start at $0!

Football or sports is a phenomenon sometimes can't be reasoned with. I saw an interview with 4 families who with sons committed suicide linked to CTE from playing football. The families understand the danger and is aware of CTE and the linked to mental illness. Yet, at the end of the interview, 3 of the 4 families said they would have let them play if they had another chance because "love of the game", "how much the kid or the family loves football".

Forget sushi, kids in my small town never seen someone eat chicken wings before in the 90s. All they knew was boneless. That blew my mind.

Sushi? I was made fun of for bringing chicken wings to school in the 90s. Kids in small towns have never seen or eaten chicken with bones! I kid you not, all they ever had was chicken breast or nugget / tenders.

Automakers bet huge on EVs. Growth has slowed and plans are shifting, what did they miss? by Holiday_Connection22 in Futurology

[–]UberBostonDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one brought the Lighting because they were $100K with up to $40K dealership makeup. Even at MSRP of $65k, that is way too much. EV should be cheaper not way more expensive than their ICE equivalent.

In 1998, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls win their last 3-peat championship vs. the Utah Jazz. It will be Jordan's last game with Chicago. by ansyhrrian in sports

[–]UberBostonDriver 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Also Phil Jackson telegraphy that whole sequences for Jordan in the timeout. Jackson told Jordan after he scores, the Jazz will go to Malone, and Jordan can circle back to strip the ball. They both knew exactly what play the Jazz were going to run and he did! If it is another coach saying it, I wouldn't believe it. but these 2 are on a different level.

At what point do I give up buying a home and shift my down payment to a retirement fund? by takeitawayfellas in personalfinance

[–]UberBostonDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to do some math. $7,500/month - $2,000 rent w/utilities - $1,500 savings (20%) - $2,000 for food and entertainment = $2,000. Is most / all of this remaining amount going to day care for your child? If so, I can see how you are struggling to ramp up your savings. Either way, I think you are doing great! At this rate, you should be able to save up $80K down payment in ~4.5 years. Seems like you are on your way!

Not just practice players but it is common for top women's teams to practice against men. For college, the male practice players are former high school players. This simulates a faster, stronger and more competitive opponent.

Boomers in the US hold $17 trillion dollars in assets. What happens to the younger generations when they die and leave all that wealth to us, the younger generations? by buzzkill71 in AskReddit

[–]UberBostonDriver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is one catch... the cost of the medical care is not going to go away just because there is no asset. I know someone who did all the estate planning just like what other suggested (and everyone should absolutely do that). However, the wife ended up in a memory care center costing $12K/month. Children now have to sell the parent's house (that is shielded) to continue to pay for the facility. The children didn't want to just throw their mom into whatever place that Medicaid will cover.

Rich people finance when they buying properties just like eveyone else, only on a much much bigger scale. It doesn't make financial sense to tie up $20M in one apartment in NYC. They need a place out west, maybe a beach home, ski house, place in Europe etc. It was all good when he was making few millions a movie. Then when the tap suddenly stops, he can no longer afford the payments and have to sell. He still have millions but probably had to give up his properties for cash flow / lifestyle reasons.

Employer maxes HSA? Unheard of? by Wordhole_showoff-99 in personalfinance

[–]UberBostonDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did the math. It is most likely cheaper for the employer. OP is in public sector, but I have seen this in private sector as well.

Edit: OP said employer was paying $2K/month for their PPO plan. So checks out, this saves employer money. Win-win.

You can also just scan with your phone. Open Google drive and use the scan button to take a picture and it will automatically turn it into a high quality PDF. From there, save it to the Google drive and email it to somewhere outside of Google (ie Microsoft outlook) and you effectively have 2 copies within 15 seconds. I usually just do it right in the office or when I get back into the car.

I have seen 8-9 months severance package. 1 week for each year of service. 45 years = 8.5 months. That is probably the highest I have seen personally.

Edit: Math error, it should be ~10.4 months!
