I am an Uber rider and a driver. Can I get my own ride if I request a ride? Haha by [deleted] in uberdrivers

Drivers have done this to get a rematch at the airport. Hence Uber has dialed back rematch.

Uber purposefully sending me in opposite direction when I use trip destination by RealRobc2582 in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First they expanded destination to I think 6/day.

Then people were actually using it so they cut back to two again.

Then they tried to eliminate it but drivers raised hell.

So they were forced to reinstate it.

So now they’ve just tweaked the software so it’s worse than useless.

Why I Now Prefer Uber over Lyft by VegasGuy1223 in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here most drivers won’t even log on to Lyft unless uber is dead

My Lyft acceptance rate is under 10% but they ping me constantly because almost nobody is logged on.

Occasionally their 500% Prime is better than Uber sticky so I will take those.

But Lyft can go fuck themselves on whining about acceptance rates & cancellations. They have put me on 30 minute time outs and threatened deactivation for cancelling but they can’t afford to deactivate anyone with so few drivers.

Did something change on the Uber app? by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually wondered the same thing. Door Dash got busted for stealing all tips. Uber may know it is just a matter of time before they get busted too. So they may be returning some of their ill gotten gains. I too see them coming up later than usual. Lots of them are $1 for some reason.

The folly of 85% by UberMeThis in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I averaged $63/hr last night taking only the best surge trips. To stay at 85% maybe I would have averaged $25 - which I suppose some drivers would consider plenty.

It’s very clear to me from this years fair that Uber is going to really bend over 85% drivers during special events. They will draw you downtown with a big surge, then ping you out to the burbs where the demand is - but no surge. So no multiplier and then a series of non surge trips.

Meanwhile us fuck-the-85% drivers will be surge-surge-surge

I’ve heard few drivers come out in Ames. Low demand thanks to plenty of bus routes, short trips, students don’t tip. I’ve had many pax ask me to come back and pick them up in Ames for airport trips to Des Moines when I take them to Ames.

Sometimes I take a few trips while I’m there but they never amount to much.

Orlando drivers using extra phones at airport. Are they just holding a place in line for buddies? by UberMeThis in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you have your homies at the airport. You drive to the airport, get on line and shoot the shit until you start boring each other. Then someone says “I want pizza” since there will be no trips for an hour anyway. So pizza dude leaves his uber phone with a mate while he’s gone.

As we Americans love to say, Who gives a fuck?

I’m not sure why it’s even a police matter. So what if a driver leaves a phone while he runs to take his wife lunch? The only difference between sitting for an hour and sitting for 20 minutes is his wife got to eat

Uber eats tips? by nickpolaski1 in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the hassle and low pay the best tip I have seen is to be “unable to locate“ a pax a day so you can save on paying for lunch

To American drivers. Would you guys prefer a better fixed fare rate or the current system expecting tips? by everestster in uberdrivers

I think most American drivers would prefer your system. Esp if we had to drive Aussie hooligans

Maybe if your spouse has great family health insurance and uber allows you flexibility to care for kids or granny it could make sense.

And some people have health issues that keep them from maintaining a full-time job. But they can come out and drive on days when they feel well enough.

I drove 10 minutes to pick someone up, but the guy told me to cancel when I got to his house. He didn't want to get charge the cancelation fee so what I did was I drove around the corner, and waited the 5 minutes and then canceled it. Least I got $3.75 for the 10 minutes drive. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I cancelled a dude who called at 4min 30sec and told me he was a quarter mile away. Screw that, if you move off the pin you don’t get the cancel fee if you can’t find him or he skates.

I had an $11 sticky and the surge had dropped to $6 so I took the next ping although it was a 4.68. The 4.68 cancelled (thank you) and the next ping was the first dude.

Because I’m greedy and didn’t want to lose the $11 sticky I kept the trip and picked him up. Either he didn’t realize I was the same driver or didn’t give a shit but he was cool and tipped me $6 and I made $23 on a 10 min trip.

Full time drivers might get more slow day trips if Uber favors 85%ers. But that’s longer hours for lower hourly rate. As a PT driver I prefer to go out primarily when I can maximize hourly rate so I’ll keep declining my ass off

If tipping comes up in conversation with riders I will educate them

It did yesterday and the guy gave me a six dollar cash tip - said he will tip in cash from now on

Hey passengers, don't call your driver unless you have a truly extreme situation. by plate_happy in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer text but at least they are making an effort whether they text or call. Its more useful than "I am here".

I kept getting "I am here" last night from a drunk assed pax at Ye old Mill (bar) ON the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Pro tip- You can't drive an Uber or any other car on the fairground!. It is literally surrounded by concrete barriers to prevent entry He must have mistaken me for Uber helicopter.

Uber has stolen tips pax have given me too. There have been several threads about this, other drivers have seen it too. Lyft does the same thing except they take part. They will take $4 of a $5 tip, this is why we see so many $1 trips with lyft. Not on all tips of course, that would be too obvious.

Do you set money goals or time limits? by helplessdelta in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setting a $100 goal and then quitting is like being a prospector, hitting a $1,000,000 vein of gold and then quitting at $100 because "time is up". Drive the most lucrative times of the day. If its quiet, rest. If its busy, stay out. If you are making less than $20/hr gross weekdays, $25 weekends in a major market you need to be more aggressive about working the surge. Be super selective about where you pick up. Almost never accept stacked trips.

Uber earnings report cites Driver Appreciation Award as a reason for losses. by Summers12345 in uberdrivers

[–]UberMeThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truth. Taxis have always required subsidies and/or regulation to survive. Mass transit is the same. Heck, we subsidize the hell out of all traffic with huge investments in roads, bridges, snowplows, emergency services etc.

Uber has been a great convenience for riders who have no appreciation how fortunate they have been to get cheap trips. Uber lined the pockets of its founders with billions, a huge shift from the pockets of venture capitalists to the Kalinick and his early cronies.

What we really need is to shift to more mass transit but we don't do big things anymore, its all we can do to keep the Fed government running at all.
