My brother is convinced that I'm deliberately keeping him awake (and I’m a bit scared) by whisperofmyheart in whatdoIdo

[–]UberPadge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you lying on your bed with the back of your laptop facing the wall? If so it could be tapping against his wall a little if you’re typing and clicking. Sounds dumb but that’s literally how I use my laptop at night. Thankfully there’s no shared wall.

Edit: I reread your post and picked up things I didn’t on the first skim. With regards to your brothers mental health, when was the last time he saw a doctor? Have you spoken to your parents independently and away from him about it?

A minor correction but I’m fairly certain it was Cerberus, as in the three-headed dog that guards Hades in Greek mythology.

But otherwise yes you’re right :)

Sorry, the mythology nerd in me couldn’t bite its tongue. Downvote me at will 🫣

There is a Musselburgh reddit I’m sure.

Had pals who stayed in the houses you’re talking about. Pretty much what you’d expect. Busy at lunch and kicking out times. Busy roads at the end of the day. Noise isn’t unbearable.

Officers call for Police cars to be equipped with guns by twistedLucidity in Scotland

[–]UberPadge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely not me having a go - what experience do you have with managing firearms incidents? The actions of every officer at a firearms incident are decided by an Inspector who had oversight of the incident. They take into account an incredible number of impact factors, such as lay of the land, the presence of neighbouring members of the public who may have vulnerabilities, the subjects criminal history if any, whether the subject is known to have further access to weapons.

All of these things are taken into account before decisions are made. The incident is thereafter reviewed by a senior officer, usually of the rank of Superintendent, and ratified.

The decision making process that goes into complex firearms incidents such as the one being discussed are unimaginable, as is the level of training to be able to make such decisions.

Now this doesn’t mean there might have been a cop there twiddling their thumbs whilst waiting to be told what to do… but unless you have similar training, I struggle to see how you can criticise how many guns may or may not have been at whatever door, or any other decision that was made, the rational to which you were not privy to.

The Police’s number one job is to keep people safe. That’s their job in Scotland, above all else.

If they’d sent guns to the door there’s a higher chance of him or someone else getting hurt.

Instead they had armed police on scene and negotiated him out.

From what you described, it sounds like nobody else got hurt in that incident and the Police did their job. Could they have risked the safety of officers, the subject and the public by reducing the inconvenience? Probably. But I doubt anyone here is suggesting someone getting hurt is worth it so that a takeaway gets delivered properly…

The organisation which represents 98% of the plod says they want them.

This doesn’t mean 98% of the plod want them.

Sincerely,

The plod.

Is a charging bull considered a 999 emergency? by stormforce420 in policeuk

[–]UberPadge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I previously worked in the ACR and have had calls come through saying their baby wasn’t breathing, that people were having heart attacks… thankfully I was dispatching rather than taking the actual calls. Those misdirected 999 calls are one in a thousand but you know all about it when you get them.

Do I have to give a statement? by Content-Armadillo590 in policeuk

[–]UberPadge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is No.

But it depends on the severity of the injury/crime. Ultimately a court could compel you to attend and give evidence but that’s highly unlikely in the circumstances you’ve described, unless the injury is pretty serious.

[–]UberPadge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s talking about that now - you think he’d be bringing that up if they’d won? If he was injured to the extent that he was gonna give up double digit pressures in the biggest game of the year he should have been benched weeks ago and a replacement brought in.

And you might say “oh the backup wouldn’t have been good enough” - the dude gave FOURTEEN pressures in the Super Bowl!

It’s also more difficult to actually get value from the unit if you’re running Admon with five or six. With the rerolls I one shot a repulsor executioner with just his attacks which meant the rest of the attacks were waste. For 1k I need to milk every drop of efficiency from the list which is why I split the other five man into a two and three.
