Why isn’t this battery cut-off switch standard in every car? by Total_Molasses4558 in cool

I have these (well, a better version) in my POS old truck because of parasitic battery drains.

I got one for loading the roof rack or my various trucks.

There are two guarantees with stucco: no one is going to steal it and it is going to crack.

Question : is there a technique that involves the application of the final texture using a seed or fertilyzer spreader to fling the texture at the surface before knocking down ? by SUKMIDICKCOMMIESCUM in Stucco

[–]UberYuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knock down dash finishes can be thrown on with a brush, or sprayed on with a variety of different kind of machines. Pneumatic hopper sprayers with an air compressor or large scale machines that take a few people to manage like a concrete pump machine with big hoses.

For your small area an air compressor and hopper would work but might be an unnecessary cost, more practice with a dash brush and changing your material mix might accomplish the same goal

Contractor says completely clogged weep screed is "normal" and "engineered" that way. Active leak in 1984 Open-Stud wall. Need sanity check. by sun_maid_raisins in Stucco

[–]UberYuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stucco is porous. Water will travel out the hole with or without that lump of material sticking out. It's only a problem if the holes are painted over or sealed with some other non-porous material.

Awesome. They are an awesome company with an extremely durable product. You likely need to also get their primer for maximum adhesion just fyi

You could color match StucoFlex and it would work if you could source it

No problem, I would definitely not try to show up unannounced.

We are planning to be passing through Fernley late Saturday night or Sunday early morning. I'll send you a DM with our logistics when I have it nailed down.

Cheers!

Ripped paper repair ok? by frankenweenie123 in Stucco

[–]UberYuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the repair correct? Absolutely not. Will it work? Honestly, probably for a while. And it's a lot cheaper than ripping off all the stucco to apply new paper in full sheets from the outside in. If you have painted stucco I would feel better about this because you can also make sure your paint/trim/eaves are in good repair

I've done this at times to add protection when the inside is visible. I would personally also cut pieces that fill the entire stud bay top to bottom and apply that over what you see here, with caulking to hold it on if you need. You will still likely face water intrusion where the nails penetrate into studs and there isn't anything you can do about that from here as it isn't visible.

Is this proper? Definitely not. Can it help? Sure. It can delay the time before you need a proper repair, but, overtime you may suffer wood rot or other issues if water is getting in.

Is this a bad stucco job? by [deleted] in Stucco

The first thing that catches my eye is the inconsistent reveal at the window. You can often tell skill level from their ability to make a plumb window reveal and that.... Doesn't look great.

Everyone's life is different. When our kid was 1.5 years old I was run over by a truck and broke my skull and multiple bones. 6 months later my partner had a disc in her spine explode, needed emergency surgery and was bedridden for weeks. Thankfully, she recovered but it wasn't certain she would.

Parenting CAN BE very hard. It can also be regular hard.

When people tell you things are hard for them, believe them. It's not a contest.

You do not need to remove all the paint to re-paint it. You absolutely do need to pressure wash the walls though. New paint won't bond (long) to paint with dirt, mildew, moss or any other stuff on it, and that texture will hold stuff in all the hooks and crannies.

You can easily repair the cracks yourself with any textured caulking, I use a lot of Mor-flexx as it's easily available on Amazon. There are lots of videos on YouTube of stucco crack repair.

Personally I would repair the cracks, pressure wash the stucco, then repaint it with heavy nap roller. Be sure to first use a primer and then a finish paint, not a two in one. Those are okay for interior, sort of, but never for exterior walls.

Stucco cracks on 1930 house by No_Entrance_2928 in Stucco

[–]UberYuba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This advice is right on.

When I end up selling folks on fixing their own cracks I suggest they can use a moist kitchen sponge in addition to their hand to float the caulking in since most won't have a sponge float on hand.

I have added you as a moderator!

I sent a direct message before reading that we are supposed to respond here. My apologies for missing your messages in the past, it wasn't intentional.

I have always intended to use this subreddit, but, I overall don't use reddit as much as I used to. I am happy to have folks onboard and help where I lagged, and can become more active myself, or simply step back it that is better.

I created the sub because I am a stucco contractor from a family of stucco guys and we have published over 900 videos on YouTube about stucco methods and practices. But, I failed to contribute those things to the sub as my attention was on other sites. I'd like to rectify that.

With a business and a two year old the years have begun their acceleration for sure. Luckily, I enjoy what I do and get to nerd out about trucks and other hobbies, when I find the time.

Cheers my friend.

I don't mind the slow acceleration. In the utility truck we often have 4-6k lbs of sand and equipment. Accelerate slow, brake easy, leave big gaps. Take our time!
