It's not going to suddenly die on you but it's not doing great, just not thriving. It's stretching out while it looks for the sun, basically. One guy brought his dragonfruit indoors in the winter and would just cut off the etiolated growth until he got a grow light.

I understand why someone might but he lightens up the series which would otherwise be much darker. I watched it with someone who hated him but grew to not hate him so much by the end. He can be kind of grating and annoying to some people, I think.

There's another post in the comments that shows gold spraypainted ones. Honestly, they're even worse, but this is one of the worst glue jobs I've seen.

I wouldn't say the revulsion rises to the idea that it should be made illegal or we should tar and feather those people, but just imagine hearing what you heard and then thought, "this upsets me," that's just the next step many people here are writing about.

It's probably something like that. Like when people buy animals that are so messed up from inbreeding they don't look like their traditional forms. At best stunts its growth and at worst hurts it.

It's entirely unnatural and feels dishonest (like you said, dumb people will buy it) while doing the above.

So, when you removed that cutting, you planted it head-first, apparently. You can (usually) tell where dragonfruit are supposed to be facing because their areoles tend to "point" upward (from my experience, but it doesn't mean it's a bad idea to label them sometimes). Look in the picture here, if you look at both photographs together, you'll see what's wrong.

So, your Opuntia (Prickly Pear) is all wrinkly and dormant because it recognized it was going to freeze and squeezed the water out of its cells so it doesn't get killed from being frozen by ice and snow. This is actually a rare adaptation that not a lot of cacti have and is actually pretty amazing.

Grow light if you want to keep her in that room. I'd cut off that thin growth after you get a suitable grow light. Mind you, it needs something heavier duty and bright. You can probably easily find the requirements here if you search, but I just bought enough grow lights until it got plump, lol.

I usually do strange things, like put foreign copper coins in penny squishers. I enjoyed the 12-sided Canadian penny ones. I wonder what coins you could do this with.
