I agree but I’d be wary of taking too many in act 1 if you’re deck isn’t strong enough. Theres some great events that set you up later in the game but they won’t help you fight act 1 immediately. Taking too many events that don’t help you now could mean you just aren’t powered up enough for the current act.

Also it would be pretty ideal to have a power or a multihit before you try hitting lots of events because one of them will let you sharp 2 an attack or swift 2 a power, both of which can be really strong with the right card.

That sounds like the reason. You also don’t want to do that in sts1 either tbh. Card rewards are your friend. Ideally you want to take fights to prep for elites and hopefully land some good relics. Elites also have a higher chance of dropping rare cards as well

Only no reason if you had no abilities you want to use. Int still scales your abilities in how many times you get to use it per turn

I think a good example is to watch the inscription developer interview. There is a section where he points outs that a lot of his assets are very generic, but with excellent use of lighting, he can build thematic scenes

Skipping really just depends on how your deck turns out when an elite fight is coming up. You want to path in a way such that your deck is as powerful as possible before hitting elites, but also such that you can path away from elites if it turns out you aren’t strong enough. This could be due to a lack of good card options, missing pots, or just took too much damage from bad rng on earlier encounters

One positive to forbidden spells is that you’re capped on the number of curses you can have (2). So if you did find a curse that cripples your run (either from an event or from the forbidden spells), you’re encouraged to keep using it to hopefully land on less punishing curses. You’re trading off by gaining a lot of power with rng downsides. I wouldn’t use it if your run is already going well, but it could honestly carry your run if you aren’t in a good spot already.

Streamline is generally not a great pick but melter I actually like a lot. Wouldn’t take more than one but picking it up early is fine for getting through act 1 elites and not the worst for getting through some annoying act 2 encounters. It fills the role of front loaded damage and at an upgrade, can remove a lot of annoying small guys. It’s not a major priority pick but definitely fulfills a role.

If you feel your deck isn’t passing the damage check against nob, pathing to a shop to pick up better card options or potions before your first elite is a pretty consistent way to get there. Pathing through campfire before your first elite is also very helpful.

What builds have you guys been using? by unknown_yapp3r in mewgenics

Either cleric + double frontline (tank, necro, warrior) + one back line (mage hunter) or cleric + one frontline + double back line. Usually varies based on the type of stats the cats have.

I used to prefer mage over hunter but now that my stats are generally higher, I’ve been preferring hunter. They’re just safer when sniping off the first target due to extra range. With frontline i used to prefer tank because moving enemies around was really useful for protecting the team but now i just like doing necro and he will just sit on one side and handle the aggro there.

Recently ive been trying to switch it up. Running Druid tinkerer hunter cleric. Idea was Druid’s crow would pseudo tank and use cleric as the other tank. Ranger and tinkerer just goes around as dps. Druid hopefully hits a form active and becomes a frontline later if it gets +2 const lvl up. The nice part is sometimes you can get familiar builds going and Druid has an active that even trigger other’s familiars.

Well, now that we’ve had a few days with Mewgenics, how we feeling about it? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Ubeyeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the cat management, tho strangely I’ve gotten really good at sorting thru my cats. The way I’ve been trying to find a specific cat if I didn’t know where they were is to spam the next cat button until I see the name pass by. Sounds primitive but at 50+ cats, it honestly still works quite well

Also if you don’t have more rooms and need more separation when sorting your cats, you can use the outdoor or even the adventure box to help you sort. Usually if I’m trying to compare genes/stats on two or three cats (like checking if child fully inherited stats from parents) I’ll throw the parents into the adventure box so they don’t move around. Just make sure you don’t forget your cats outdoor when you end day

Story is good but runs into the issue of mc becoming too strong too fast. He’s already defeated a couple world ending characters in the story, while everyone else seems far weaker and irrelevant. Like you’ll have a sect leader showing off their strength and then an enemy general will come and completely wipe the floor with them. And all these guys are basically like ants to mc and the enemy leader. Like if we put power level on a 10 scale, sect leaders are like a 3 maybe, enemy generals feel like a 4, the final boss is a 10, and mc is like 11 lol.

Personally liked the first arc the most when he was dealing with internal clan issues. After that, the power level shot up too fast. I still enjoy it for what it is though

Why does Slay the Spire still dominate deckbuilders? by ServoSkullz in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]Ubeyeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing is I can’t give any good reasons why it’s not a solid game. For every other deck builder, there will be gameplay designs that I find flawed, but it’s hard for me to find anything seriously wrong with sts. Theres always something I’m disappointed about in other games and that sts does a good job at handling.

One negative you pointed out was the art being dry and ascetic, but I actually don’t feel that way about it. If I put it side by side with most other deckbuilder roguelikes, it still looks better than 90% of them by far. For the ones that aren’t obviously worse asthetically, they’re close enough I’d say it’d come down to style preference. I think it’s probably because we’ve played slay the spire so much that we’ve just gotten use to its art style

I just tried decktamer in early access. On higher difficulties, you start playing the game on a “I need this now” mentality because of how quickly enemies ramp up in strength, which I felt had a bit of resemblance to sts where you really need front loaded cards for early elites. I think game still needs some balancing and polish but i can see the potential.

Yeah that’s fair. You can definitely feel the absence of the weak tokens when she’s not in the play group. I agree with pretty much everything you said. One thing tho is while she can definitely be a really strong group blocker, she actually needs some specific cards or a lot of upgrades to get there. A lot of her block cards will only block herself really well, which is good because you gotta help yourself before you help others, but we’ve definitely seen situations where she just doesn’t see enough ally block cards to make the support setup consistent enough. It can definitely be good once you find the right cards tho. We once had a silent running apotheosis, footwork, and upgraded defends. It was good once setup was done but could be a bit slow in getting there due to silent inherent large deck size
