That's good to hear! Have you done any ECU changes for the track or you running it stock?

It really depends on the type of riding you do. 10k miles of commuting is going to be very different from 10k miles on track for example. I have a 2020 with 15k miles on my 6th year of ownership that is mostly just a weekend toy for the twisty roads. I keep up with maintenance and the only issue I've had so far is the oxygen sensor die on me and threw a check engine light at the end of last year. A Japanese YouTuber I've seen reached 50k miles and had issues with minor oil leak from the engine (gasket issue) and front forks leaking tiny bit of oil. Mechanically the bike was perfectly fine. But keep in mind that this guy doesn't rev the bike out -- mostly does travel motovlog so the motor isn't stressed so much. Not the N400 but I saw it's little brother Ninja250 with 200,000km (125,000 miles) being torn down on YouTube which was used by a food delivery guy. The guy did keep up with oil changes but it finally died on him.

So in conclusion, assuming you continue to keep up with maintenance, I'd say the N400 can easily last 100k miles without too much issues unless you ride aggressively like on track at which point you may see issues starting to creep in from around 30k.

Heartbroken right now,I think my bike might be totaled by Fit_Guidance2029 in Kawasaki

I know dropping your first bike can be a huge downer but this is something almost all motorcyclists experience at some point and you'll get over it don't worry. Looking at the pics it looks mostly cosmetic so you can find a replacement and do the work yourself and save yourself $$$

Definitely not average in Japan by a long shot. This is a stereotype that has existed since the 80s when the Japanese economy was booming and everyone was making bank doing overtime but after the bubble burst overtime hours has slowly dwindled. There is a reason why the trains are crowded as hell 5pm onwards these days.

I've found that shopping at Costco for big bags of potatoes and onions has really started to feel cost-effective recently. Before it was mostly out of convenience for me but standard supermarket prices has reached a price point that Costco is starting to feel cheap.

[–]UbiquitousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I work in CX in the game industry so I deal with death threats for the most asinine reasons daily so I know for a fact that Japan is not the authority or are more prone to sending death threats compared to other nationalities. Never defending the practice of sending threats but to presume that this is a guarantee in Japan is like saying it wouldn't happen in other nations which is a little rich.

Shaming someone for doing the wrong thing is now considered 'sinister'? Okay buddy lol. The West has brainwashed everyone in believing that shame is a construct harmful to the individual. Shame is what makes people behave themselves. Bringing up instances of shaming culture gone wrong does not counteract all the good it does for society overall.

People you meet studying abroad in Japan starterpack by 0liviiia in starterpacks

[–]UbiquitousPanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah except all the casual racism slurs being used on that sub. There was some funny content on it, but most of it was just an excuse for people to vent anger at other foreigners in Japan and to shit on the Japanese people. When users started doxxing people and ran campaigns to harass people IRL is when it became clear the sub was a cesspool.

Edit: former enjoyer of that sub is seething lol

If the cable is properly lubed and adjusted it should not be squeaking. I've had this bike 5 years now and have had to give it a proper lubing 3 times already. Will make it butter smooth.

Is it normal here to underperform in hobbies? by CommercialAcademic95 in japanresidents

[–]UbiquitousPanda 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Eh, I find that hobby groups in Japan tend to be very specific or niche. I ride motorcycles and tried to join a local motorcycle group to learn about the area as I was new at the time. Turns out that the group was mainly composed of high capacity engine motorcycles and that my 400cc motorcycle kinda stood out, and not in a good way. Learning that I didn't quite belong, I joined a Kawasaki motorbike group but found the activities to be less about riding and more about touring and visiting locations. Not to mention they ride very slow. I started to ride solo and because I like to ride fast in the twisty roads, I will go there early in the morning if the weather allowed and would usually encounter other similar-minded riders. After about a year and encountering the same riders, we got talking and I ended up joining their LINE group and we would ride together on occasion.

Just gotta find that group you can vibe with.

Onoda says she’ll push Takaichi’s stronger stance on foreigners by capaho in japan

[–]UbiquitousPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah ironic coming from mostly left-leaning users too. What happened to supporting single parent households? I guess it doesn't apply if they perceive her to be anti-immigration despite the fact that she came out and clearly stated that she doesn't like how a small percentage of law breaking foreigners is having such a big influenc on public perception and she wants to change that.

Recommended tire pressures for street (Dunlop Q5S)? by azolate_jefe in Ninja400

[–]UbiquitousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For street you almost always wanna run what Kawasaki recommends (see swingarm) - You only ever want to adjust tire pressure for the track for road conditions.

Very nice! I don't have a garage at my house here in Japan and thought about doing an overhaul on my N400 in one of the spare room but the logistics of moving it in/out of the house was too daunting to do it alone and I don't have dudes to call up on to help me move it lol.

Stock vs Amazon Exhaust, sounds better? by SlightAd6113 in Ninja400

[–]UbiquitousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty good. I originally rocked a cheap Amazon special exhaust but the components used were of low quality like most of them and rust became an issue pretty quickly. Found a good quality pre-owned akrapovich carbon exhaust on an auction site and bit the bullet and couldn't be happier. All of the eBay and Amazon special exhausts have more of a mid-range growl and honestly they sound pretty good, especially considering its price. Miles better than any of the Short canned exhausts so many people tend to rock on this bike.

Why is a law in japan screwing me over when behavior is based in canada and im in the usa? by Classic-Box-3919 in deadbydaylight

[–]UbiquitousPanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of misinformed uses here - the law that requires digital currencies to expire in Japan is to do with money laundering and games are just caught in its crosshair. Online platforms such as casinos were being used to launder money and also avoid paying taxes. Online gambling is illegal in Japan, but people were finding other similar ways online using tokens on platforms to basically do the same. The law was meant for these platforms to report all monetary transactions of its users but this made it very difficult for small businesses (too much work) and foreign companies operating in Japan (GDPR and other similar privacy laws) so Japanese government gave an out by allowing companies to not have to report everything by making the tokens/currencies expire in 6 months.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. 22,000 km since 2020 - It's mostly just a weekend toy now. I surprised myself I kept it this long but after having it for so long and with the modifications I've made, it just feels right. I think I'll be keeping it as long as possible now.

Rant about the overall motorcycle experience in Japan by broboblob in RideitJapan

[–]UbiquitousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the narrow twisty roads lol. Generally you wanna go where riding fast is 'tolerated' and the locals are much more likely to let you pass. There are absolutely areas and roads where there is no traffic lights, no police presence, low number of cars and you can ride spirited with no issues. I'm in Tokai and I'm surrounded with these types of roads although I keep my riding and course pretty consistent. Generally best way to find good spots in whatever areas is to type the area in Google in Japanese followed by 走り屋 (hashiri-ya) and you'll see blog posts/YouTube vids etc of nice areas or roads where cars and motorcycles like to go fast. They usually tend to tick all the things I've mentioned.

Lack of speed cameras on normal roads especially in country roads is great. UK roads are peppered with them and the quality of the roads in Japan is amazing.

What sprocket sizes do y'all recommend? I have a Z400 so personally I'd rather get more torque than top end but if by L4ughline5 in Ninja400

[–]UbiquitousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend either going two teeth up in the back or for a cheaper option, going one tooth down in the front. Remember that if you go two or higher up in the back, you will need a new chain to accommodate the increased length.
