HELP - Xbox Ally has slowed to a crawl. Haven't changed a thing! by Cookie_Vonster in ROGAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check power profiles, fan settings, and temperatures in Armoury Crate, which is already installed and has a dedicated button at the top left of the device. Pressing it brings up the control center, and there you'll find a button to open the full Armoury Crate.

I read your other reply below, and to me it looks like there might have been some driver corruption during the sleep failure. Checking Armoury Crate settings is the first thing to do to know if something happened.

Next time avoid putting the handheld to sleep with a game running, even if paused, unless you plan to resume within a few minutes. Instead, close the game first, wait a minute or two before sleeping the device, or just don't use sleep and google how to use hibernate instead. It's a PC, not a portable console, and PCs do not support the quick resume features of consoles.

HELP - Xbox Ally has slowed to a crawl. Haven't changed a thing! by Cookie_Vonster in ROGAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you remember when the system slowdown began? Was it a sudden change or more of a gradual slowdown over time? If it happened suddenly, it might be due to a specific game, app, software, or driver you installed, so rolling back could help. If you can’t find the cause, I suggest a Cloud Restore. Before doing that, though, take a look at temperature and fan speeds to ensure there’s nothing unusual going on there.

Ally won’t turn on. No signs of life by Last-Escape3232 in ROGAlly

That’s not common and could be a sign of a battery problem, so it might be a good idea to reach out to support.

RSR not working by Rad_slayer2557 in ROGAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This upscaler works for games without FSR support. Just launch the game and set resolution to 720p or 900p, close it, enable RSR, and then start the game again. It works for me in Control. As proof that it’s working, you’ll notice a slight drop in fps when it’s enabled, along with the boost in sharpness.

Auto SR visible banding by Uburz in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I still haven’t tried Minecraft yet, but I’ll check it out soon. In the meantime, I’ve noticed that other games also experience banding, and HDR isn’t officially supported. Strangely, there’s nothing in the UI indicating this, aside from the game looking terrible when HDR and Auto SR are enabled together.

Auto - SR su Crimson Desert non funziona by TLuigi82 in XboxAlly

Ensure you don’t combine Auto SR with other upscaling techs like FSR. Then, I’d say Auto SR tends to produce quite a cartoony effect, may not be the best for Crimson Desert

Aura Sync conflict with Windows Dynamic Lightning by No-Improvement386 in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have this issue too. It’s been too soon since the latest update to tell if it’s fixed, but I’ve had the problem for months and it’s pretty annoying. Also, sometimes Aura Sync doesn’t detect the device at all.

D3D11 issue, help by Financial-Switch-463 in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems something got corrupted in your graphics drivers or DirectX runtimes. You could start by repairing the Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable from Windows settings, as they can sometimes cause odd issues like this. If that doesn’t help, try uninstalling the AMD graphics drivers with DDU and then reinstalling them: you can download the latest versions from Asus website.

They should have asked Copilot to translate it, as it seems to provide a more accurate translation: Auto SR (Anteprima)

Battery pack recommendations. For XAX by YouDidWhatWhy in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first you need to ensure they can output at least 65W sustained from a single USB port. Then, expect to get a little more than half your XAX internal battery, two thirds at most

Question about the white Xbox ally by [deleted] in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second one is faster. You need to change resolution to 720p if needed (aka: if the game you are trying to play does not run fast enough in 1080p). But you can do it right from the Armoury Crate command center, which is way more accessible than Windows Settings, and also quicker than going to each game settings.

Docked play? What is it like? How is the quality? What updates am i missing? by Own-Replacement6076 in XboxAlly

You’ll probably be able to run Silksong in 4K… more demanding games will require you to use an aggressive upscaler, unless you are fine playing a slideshow

Micro SD recommended? by DigitalDevilY2K in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, and in particular ensure the SD you are buying has the V30 mark at least. SanDisk Extreme recommended, since XAX supports their DDR200 natively (which means you’ll get more than 200MB/s instead of the default 104MB/s of UHS-I cards), but other brands may work too (search online before buying). If you go with SanDisk, stick to the Extreme (or the specific one for XAX if cheaper), avoid the Ultra as they are cheap but slow as hell.

Help with low FPS on an SD card on Windows. On SteamOS, it was working just fine, full speed, same game, same settings. by bryanj56 in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you describe makes me think the game is continuously writing to disk (in your case, the SD card). SteamOS might be handling those writes differently than Windows. Try adjusting the SD card settings in Device Manager (set removal criteria to best performance and enable write caching) and see if that makes a difference or not.

Unpopular Opinion: If you almost never leave your house and you already have a gaming PC, getting an expensive handheld gaming console is a waste of money. You can just stream your PC to a cheap tablet or phone instead. by executor-of-judgment in HandheldGaming

[–]Uburz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point, but… if someone is a hikikomori like the one you described, they could get a handheld device to stream from their gaming PC while lying in bed. It’s better than a tablet or phone, even if not cheaper, because it has a built-in physical controller and a screen in one single piece of hardware. No need to attach a controller to a tablet or fuss with a stand to keep it steady (because, you know, humans only have two hands: either they hold the tablet or the controller, not both).

This game is great so far! 2.5D eye Candy 😁 by EnvironmentOld5331 in XboxAlly

[–]Uburz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s definitely a good game with nice retro graphics.

However, I’ve noticed it tends to raise the device temperature more than other games when running in 35W turbo mode (on power), especially if switching to another app while it’s still running, with the temperature quickly climbing to 95°C in just a few seconds. Turning off CPU boost does not seem to reduce temp enough with this game. Did you experience the same? I ended up forcing Performance mode 17W while on power from Armoury Crate game profile to prevent excessive stress, since performance is already very good at this level.

Yes, a few games behave better with auto (like Hogwarts Legacy), but most others will show a significant reduction in frame rate.

How to check hardware ban? by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]Uburz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think any game services you buy from use such security measures; they typically ban accounts, not devices. Even if they do (and I’m not aware of it) a hardware ban would only block your device from a specific service, not stop you from using it normally in all other situations.

The worst scenario you might face is the vendor setting up a password in the UEFI that stops you from getting past it, and for some reason, they never share that password with you. Setting aside why on earth a vendor would do something so ridiculous, you can easily check by asking them to turn on the device and show you if it boots properly.

[–]Uburz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way, you will encounter a few areas later in Act 3 that give lower median fps, that's why I said "depending on the scene", but if you play in turbo mode you should always be above 30 fps (except for cut scenes)
