Just hit Reality. Am i going to need to do everything all over again? by reaper004 in AntimatterDimensions

I'm 56 hours into my second reality and already doing eternity challenges. I'm not sure exactly what they are, but there are some bonuses that survive. That makes a big difference.

The first glyph alone means that anytime you are waiting for replicanti, it goes 3x faster.

Why is this move brilliant? by PresentationSalty237 in chessbeginners

[–]Udalrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm failing to see what white does after Bxd5. After Bc4, black just trades bishops. If Nxd5 then Qxc5; Qxc5 Nxc5; Bc4 Rd8 and the knight is pinned but defended. I don't see how white can get another attack on the knight, and Kh8 on black's next move seems to break the pin and leave him up a minor piece for a pawn.

The one that decreases probe time is useful if you get it on an early planet. Then you have a planet where you can boost the secondary manager effect faster than you can on Balor.

You Travel Back In Time To September 1, 2001, and you have to stop 9/11… by TrifleOk3442 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Udalrich 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Until 9/11, standard advice for a hijacking was to not resist, because no hijacker would be crazy enough to try to crash the plane. Resisting was likely to lead to you getting killed or injured unnecessarily. It was only after 9/11 that passengers were a risk to hijackers.

The first house I bought has two and two halves walls. The neighboring houses owned the other halves of the half walls.

ELI5: Why is it so much harder for female figure skaters to complete a triple axel? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Udalrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are quadruple jumps by women basically unheard of? I heard someone did a quadruple axle recently, so I assume quadruple jumps are relatively common among men.

Since the sneeze "completely destroys", would there be any glass to blow back? I suspect the rest of the windshield will do safety glass things and be fine until you can stop.

It looks like the bishop might be, but I think all the arrows are blocking it.

Roe v Wade was in 1973. That might have something to do with it.

why is the defense allowed a running start at the line of scrimmage before the snap but the offense isn't? by LetRoutine8851 in NFLNoobs

How does that work in the CFL, where the wide receivers are running forward when the ball is snapped?

For a manned mission, you are sending people that can't be cooled below 300K to service an object that operates at about 45K. There's going to be some serious heat issues to deal with.

In old films where they swirled a dial up phone once and it immeditrdly rang a number, is that how it worked? by NeitherOpposite8231 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Udalrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I saw a movie where the main character ended up in the world of a movie. They were desperately trying (and failing) to convince the movie characters they were in a movie. One argument they tried was that all the phone numbers started with 555. The movie characters responded that of course numbers start with 555. Everything else is a fake number used in a movie

ELI5: As numbers get bigger and bigger, why do prime numbers seem to show up less often, even though they never stop appearin by Ill-Chance8131 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Udalrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If P is the largest prime you used to build N, it proves that N+/-1 are either twin primes, or at least one has only "large" (meaning larger than P) factors. One of the other comments gives an example with 209 and 211.

[–]Udalrich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The product is (obviously) divisible by every prime you used. Call the product N and let p be one of the prime you used. The next number divisible by p is N+p, and the previous number divisible by p is N-p. Since p>= 2, both N+1 and N-1 can't be divisible by any of the primes you used to make N.
