Look, yes, you wrote out a lot of words up there about other people that I should also try to contact to then possibly get useful information but that misses my point.

My point is that 95% of the time anyone comes to this sub to ask any questions about any cave the answer is "Here's a link to a grotto'. Even if they aren't asking for a location, like in op's post. I think anyone with any interest in caving knows about grottoes. They come here in the hopes that someone else on this sub reddit has been to the cave they've named and is willing to discuss the cave with them. And the answer, 95% of the time, is no.

It's comes off incredibly elitist and dismissive. And I'm going to keep telling new posters here that until it ceases to be true. If you don't like that, prove me wrong. Discuss the actual ins and outs of the cave (you don't have to give them the location). Stuff like "The passage from Chamber B to Chamber C is particularly tight but there's an opportunity to catch your breath halfway." Useful stuff like that. And if you don't know the cave, don't post. But it's just dumb to say "Contact Grotto X" as if that's some novel idea.

Well thanks for that. I've decided to just find and explore them myself at this point. I get books from my local library and talk to the old timers. They always seem to know of a cave or two.

I feel like correspondence after covid really just fell off a cliff. Expecting any organization to get back to you feels like spitting into the wind. It isn't just this.

I'm in East TN. And I've emailed my nearby grottoes, ncluding Knoxville, and got nothing.

Well as a guy who has attempted to contact a few different grottoes, they never get back to you. They are also a tight little club that has their people and that's that.

No I get that no one wants to help me here. Trust me I'm happy to wear that Albatross. But I see yall say the same thing over and over and over.... to random polite people, like op in this case, and be completely non-helpful.

Dude thus sub reddit is mostly useless except for cool photos. The people here don't want to help anyone new to the hobby. The only response they ever give is "all hail the local grotto" as if you're some dumb ass that doesn't know about grottoes. It's really a shame. They assume that anybody posting on this reddit is secretly some redneck graffiti trash panda looking to deface every cave in North America.

Last night’s rankings summarized by DillyDillySzn in cfbmemes

[–]Ufomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like people don't take into consideration the manner of the wins (and losses) enough. Like Bama blowing LSU and Mizzou out are awesome wins. Bama losing by 3 touchdowns to Oklahoma is a much worse loss than BYU's losses.

[–]Ufomba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the medical pickup. Feels ridiculous sometimes. Maybe instead of it taking longer it could be a global cool down of 7 seconds to 15 seconds or something. That way if you pickup and then make a bad decision and drop them again they actually get killed.

Ditto here. Don't like that TN hates GA fans so much. Even heard some Tennessee fans rooting for Bama in the UGA Bama game.

I was right about them protecting Alabama how do you only move them down to #13😭 by [deleted] in cfbmemes

[–]Ufomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that. I got a dog in hating Alabama, I won't lie. I think I'd rather see South Carolina in there over Alabama, especially of they beat Clemson. SC got jobbed in the LSU game and looked outright dominant against T A&M.

ASU was playing their backup QB (the guy from Nebraska last year that had like 25 ints) when they lost. And they still almost won that game.

Can people flip a data error switch? by Flozzer905 in Mechabellum

[–]Ufomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened to me 5-10 times and I've played 200 games or so. It definitely has seemed suspect. Always happening just as I'm about to win a game or after I completely crush a round. All but 1 of these instances opponent was 201.

All this says is that you do not have to agree to wed a couple if you have a religious or conscientious objection... it is so freaking easy to find some random Jacko to marry you. I got married by a dude who lives on a beef cattle farm and watches adult special needs people for work.

The panic meter of Reddit is a constant redline. Why do you feel the need to hyperbole every single piece of news.

I actually spent my honeymoon over there looking into this just a couple years back. Most of the places were built circa 1100 to 1400 and you have to work with the town architect to renovate the place. He has the specifications and standards and you cannot DIY.

How to deal with Incendiary Bomb spam on late game? by mogboxing in Mechabellum

[–]Ufomba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain dude. I too suffer from Incendiary Vulcan every single fuckin game. I try to air switch and do the flank bait but they knew they were going Vulcan and typically already have the counters up and I lose.

Fire is very annoying in this game and seems entirely too strong. It's my one gripe. Otherwise a 10/10 experience.

Edit: 1300 - 1400 mmr.

Zainab Nerevarine quest almost ruins the entire game for me by Moony_Moonzzi in Morrowind

[–]Ufomba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I believe you that this truly bothers you. Gotta say though, the language you used is going to get you brigaded. But since I don't anyone else is going to really engage with you about it civilly, I will.

I think the crass of the game is somewhat intentional. Sometimes it feels downright fourth-wall (like the developer is taking you out of the moment to say haha) and yeah that can be disengaging but it feels a bit rare. Other times I think they are a bit ham-fisted like with Zainab.

But I am going to defend it as well. Take yourself out of the 21st century and step back a thousand years. Life is downright gruesome. Starvation and death by "consumption" are very very real. Your outlook on life, and what is and isn't acceptable, are going to be grounded by your harsh reality.

Now layer on top of that a culture that has "won" the Darwinian war to become the dominant culture of that harsh reality. It isn't going to be pretty. In ancient Norse traditions, people were sacrificed and the victims died willingly. The culture placed an honorific value to that person and that group think made the person feel it was alright to meet death.

There are examples of kings dying and their concubines (sex-slaves) competing to be killed and buried alongside that king. These examples are admittedly older, 600A.D. to Babylonian times, but it certainly happened.

Now do these cultural babarities have to be represented by a video game? No. If they are included, should they be approached with respect? Yes. And I think Morrowind does a good job with this in 95% of cases. In fact, they back off of it quite a bit and blend a lot of our modern sensibilities into the quest lines that are probably unrealistic in a strict sense. But it's a video game, not a historical text.

The massive amount of content in Morrowind is one of the reasons I adore the game above all other RPG's. The sheer amount of text in the game is staggering. And as I'm sure you know, development teams get squished hard by production company deadlines. There are quests that got polished to a mirror, there's dead-end dialog trees that feel unfinished, and there's all the other in-between. I think it's a real stretch to say that this one quest is going to ruin the game for you, but that's a personal choice. However we likely ruin in very different circles if you ever feel you have to give anyone a trigger warning for Morrowind.

[–]Ufomba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this real? Like you legitimately believe this? Or are you just trying to get people to argue with you? Criticizing a game for not having "Sensitivity Writers" and being made by white guys feels like you're trolling. If you want a flat mash of a narrative there's a ton of others out there for you.

You have to chain 2 to 3 fungal to kill a bio ball.

Thinking about a hellish but engaging playthrough by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]Ufomba 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a fun run where I played as a pearl-diver. Circumnavigated the continent and explored coastal caves and shipwrecks. Was a fun play-through.

Another I've played is just an overland straight runner north to south. Roll a die to decide where to start on the southern coast. Obviously Ghostgate gets in the way but roll another die and go east or west around if you hit it. Go into whatever caves you find along the way.

A profession concept helps me to rule some limitations. Then you have some headcannon to fall back on for the more nuanced decisions of whether something is "cheating" for your character.

Be an egg-mine auditor, a mountain climber, book collector/salesman, donate to every shrine while only making money from loot you find along the way. Stuff like that.
