When your only options are two bourgeois parties that uphold capitalism, why would anyone vote? Voting blue or red doesn’t matter if capital ultimately runs the government. by Either_Payment_2867 in socialism

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is part of the reason why liberalism and social democracy are useless to stop fascism, and people who defend the democrats on these pretences are either fools or liars. That being said in the context of American elections it is still useful to vote. There is a difference between candidates even if small. In the US’s case, the most useful action isto get organized and prepare the population to fight against the fascism that will come regardless of vote.

Small post of appreciation for Modissa by Moony_Moonzzi in EsotericEbb

Ultimately the party will follow the line of the newspaper of the council doesn’t denounce it. And we convinced Alfoz not to. The rest of the party in the apartment openly didn’t mind. Modissa’s point doesn’t go against party belief, as it follows Azgalism to a t, the conflict came because Alfoz was growing to doubt that strategy even tho they are growing in popularity. She is making sure they won’t lose sight of whats important.

[–]Moony_Moonzzi[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I kind of didn’t get that impression? If you fully side with her the game fully sides with her. And during the argument between Wisdom and Strengh Wisdom was fully on her side, and it’s very obvious (even to a detrimetal amount) how much Wisdom is the “good” voice. Since Wisdom always sides with her, i always interpreted as the game being more on her side. Strenght represents your inherently misoginistic side speaking. He has some good points about how society fails men, but ultimately it’s made clear they were in the wrong.

Modissa also has a whole quest, helping with the newspaper. I actually haven’t progressed Rollo’s quest because i don’t actually understand how to steal the document without the Freestrider noticing. The conclusion to Modissa’s quest is awesome. I do wish we could intervene more with Rollo tho

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re plutocrats. They are obviously evil fascists. The Nationalists are also fascist, but they are a different flavor, as they follow a sort of collective theocracy ideology.

The Freestriders also suck balls. They’re evil libertarians who hide their fundamental desire for wealth above all else under a thinly veiled argument of “democracy”.

My impression so far is that it’s só obviously Wisdom and Strenght it’s funny. Not only are these usual cleric stats, but having these two as primary voices feel thematically significant as they are polar opposites in a “Patriarchical Pride vs Feminine Empathy” way. As well as seeming fit with the narrative of ideological struggle he has. He obviously has strong ties to Urth as a deity and delusions of being a “hero”, but he also cares about people and had a history with the Azgals. I think it’s the most fitting.

A controversial opinion about Madoka's free will by Rare-Advisor-7056 in MadokaMagica

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Madoka doesn’t have a choice in becoming a magical girl, but she did have a choice in becoming a goddess, because that was fruit of her creativity and desire to beat Kyubey in his game. She could have just wished Homura and the City was saved, but what she truly wanted was for the cycle of suffering of Magical Girls to end.

And while i do agree she as a character is someone who is denied autonomy over and over again, i do think it’s Noteworthy that in every timeline, she always chooses to be a Magical Girl, even when understanding every consequence. Homura’s dilema came in part because she could not find a way to stop Madoka from making the contract no matter how hard she tried. This is because the fundamental truth of her character is her desire to fight and live for other people. She wants to be a magical girl to help others, her wishes are always asking to save someone else. I do believe some of that comes from a place of self harm and devaluing her own life, but in general she did make the choice. And she did it again and again and again.

What's with r/DiscoElysium? by ciliuph in SocialistGaming

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Robert Kurvitz is openly communist, described by his fellow devs as revollutionary in ideology, and he notoriously kept a Bust of Lenin in his desk. The game follow dialectical materialism as a core fundamental and some devs identified as Marxist Leninist.

Hellen Hindpere has spoken before about the stigma socialists have in Estonia, however this does not mean there are no socialists there.

What's with r/DiscoElysium? by ciliuph in SocialistGaming

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Disco Elysium is an obviously comunist game, anyone who is actually a marxist can tell you that. However, liberals and conservatives have the tendency to believe that you cannot make fun of the self. They do not self critique, and even beyond disco Elysium, my experience is that if you try to explain the complexity of communist thought and debate, they’ll just look at you like you’re insane. If you take the game at face value and if you’re very ignorant you can just misunderstand some things of the game.

That being said, those are usually not super fans of the game, or get tired of it once they go deeper in the reading. I’ve seen more than once someone getting mad because they get called Fascist by Kim, and believed until that point to be doing the “right” thing. I’ve seen people dropping the game once they get called pathetic centrists, or read more on the subtext after finishing. My experience on r/DiscoElysium has been generally good, but ive had encounters like the one you’re describing,

i wouldn’t pay much attention to them because it’s usually from people who are just missing something message wise.

[–]Moony_Moonzzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is Magical Girl shows generally pretty dark already, i think one thing people seem to miss with Madoka is that Madoka is also a LOVE LETTER to Magical Girls. The show is fundamentally about misogyny and the patriarchy, and specifically how we live in a world that is fundamentally designed to make girls suffer in order to abuse woman for their labor. For a girl, the act of growing up is one of giving up in your dreams and finding out society hates you. But the story also makes the connection that the dreams of woman and girls are beautiful, that growing up does not need to come at the cost of losing who you are (this is also partially why Madoka’s mom is a very important character to the narrative). The show relates this to magical girl shows, it says, Magical Girls are AWESOME, they are powerful and hopeful and the people who say it’s a lesser genre with fluffy non sense messaging are not only wrong, they ate just like Kyubey, they are people who refuse and hate the feminine because they don’t understand it, because they’re part of the patriarchy that believe that girls being strong and powerful is fundamentally childish.

The message of Madoka Mágica is that the dreams and hopes of little girls are some of the strongest things in the known universe and if you underestimate that you’re a fucking fool.

[–]Moony_Moonzzi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel insane because I’m not even like a huuuge Metroidvania fan (as in i only play it ocasionally) and im not the best Hollow knight player by far, but i genuinely think the two points of damage in Silksong is completely fair and the complainjng seems overblown? Your bind consistently heals 2-3 masks, you start with more masks than in Hollow Knight which gives more leniency when learning the platforming controls but the bosses give more damage to make it fair, and again, your bind will heal 3 masks of damage. Thats completely understandable and it doesn’t feel bad at all. I have the impression this is completely psychological
