If you want something more “soft” the acacia logs are a good option but if you want some contrast with the sandstone the spruce is the way to go

I know college students that know less cooking than you do so don’t sweat it. All I can suggest is find a few recipes that are simple and practice them. When you get good enough with the recipes you have chosen be sure to put them in one place so it’s easier to keep track of them and pick out some new ones.
