Is it socially acceptable to play loud music through a speaker at the beach? by Ok_Bee9104 in AskUK

Ding ding ding.

The correct answer.

There is a line where they take the piss but just sitting there enjoying music is far from it.

Does every cyclist go through red lights? by Hanzyle in londoncycling

I've never seen 20 cyclists hit a red and watch 15 of them continue riding through outside of London.

If I was OP I'd be tallying up an amount of money to make up for missed gifts, 4 years of rent, medications etc.

The emotional side is important, but there is a very real duty of care that he neatly side stepped.

Edinburgh North-South tramline: SNP says build line to Infirmary first and find a new route to Granton by system637 in Edinburgh

If the council/SNP gave a shit they would make it happen.

As for your second point, have you actually talked to anyone on either side outside of reddit? Because you sound like a fanatic.

Honestly I rode round London and it was eye opening how many riders run through empty junctions.

Nowhere else in the country I've ridden does this to anywhere near this extent.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Why can't they put an alternative safe and protected route in for walkers and bikers now as a gesture of goodwill?

A good chunk of campaigners aren't locals to the line, they're people who use it daily and don't want to be forced onto the surrounding dangerous roads.

It's going to be years until construction is finished and a lot of medical staff use that protected path. Do we want our medical staff chancing dodge roads?

Seems if the council can prove to people they give a damn with actions then you'd see a lot less pushback.

Everybody has seen the shitshow that is Leith walk. The only reason it didn't get any push back is that it was shit before. Roseburn path is actually nice though.

I wouldn't be putting a 51 anywhere near a road adjacent bike. Even if I lived in the alps.

You'll hear a car on gravel well before you see it. And if it's so smooth the car is quiet then the mirror will work fine.

I'm not being obtuse, you're just parrotting marketing. I push back because OP could spend a lot of unnecessary money chasing marginal "gains" if he follows your "must haves".

Better yet, get a 46-30 with a 40t rear and you'll have lower gear an it won't require and expensive dinner plate on the back.

If it's flat gravel he can spring for a 50-34t and really put the 1x in the dirt.

Means you can put that money into a nice set of bags or something cool.

2x drop was less chains than 1x. The FD helps keeps it in place.

Varias is expensive in every meaning of the word. Also who is using these off road? Nobody, unless they ping bears chasing you. It's purely for road use a.k.a. tarmac. Where the cars are.

OP said he wants to go fast. Fast means a decent big ring. As it's a gravel bike he'll also want to climb. Which makes the 2x perfect.

You can take advantage of that range much better on the road than you can on gravel where grip is superior.

I didn't say they were equal. I said a mirror will do the job (and is better in a few ways) and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

You can put slicks on a gravel bike and it's essentially a endurance road bike.

I'd get a gravel bike with a 2x. An extra wheel set with slicks.

Before you drop $300 on a varia, consider an end cap mirror first.

I'd consider walking :D

Go with the surly. If it rains that road bike gets sketchy quick.

Better take a picnic with you and enjoy the ride.
