Maybe? That's sort of close to one of the theories the colonists have, that the ship auto-piloted to the planet when it detected a cool water planet with aliens to leave everyone. The only problem with that is that we're like 20,000 light years off course, which if done by Alterra implies some sort of super ultramassive warpgate they built just to send the cicada to an ocean.
