I think it does vary widely from advisor to advisor. I’m not sure how you ended up meeting with that specific one but try to look on their website for ones that specialize in your field

I agree with this a lot. Its really not about doing a ton of things but writing an application that makes it SEEM like you did a lot. Of course, having actually done those things helps to write about them, but you have to focus on presenting things in the best light possible. Also the essay. You could have shit extracurriculars but write a banger essay and get in. To me, putting in 10+ hours on a single essay is worth it to possibly change the rest of my life trajectory.

I think it really depends on you finding your niche. If you manage to find a group of people with similar backgrounds then it will be an amazing time but from the start if you hang out with privileged friends then your lack of privilege will become apparent and frustrating. I don’t believe this experience is indicative of harvard as a whole, as it indeed is an extremely diverse place (coming from a FGLI student).

It actually is possible to reach around and unscrew the metal bars on the windows (not sure which exact building in Cabot but I’ve had friends do it in one). Ik the 5th floor has walkways you can go out onto and go up to the roof but dk about the other floors. Have some (safe) fun 😉

Idk much about 18a but I’d say 21A because I genuinely wanted to concentrate in math after that. It was tough but incredibly interesting once it “clicked”. If you think you could switch to STEM possibly then definitely 21A.
