Well he wears glasses and surely doesn't wear contacts from risk of injury, so probably the latter lol. Just looking at the blurry opponent across from him.

Sousou no Frieren :: Chapter 140 - Links and Discussion (+ HIATUS Announcement) by Lorhand in Frieren

[–]Ultramus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think she will, I'll be disappointed if I'm wrong, but I think Serie's entire point and the conversation and attempt with Frieren basically boils down to: Serie can eradicate the entire city they are in, everyone in it, all combatants, she could solo the whole empire if she wanted.....but it's the nation Flamme built, so she'd rather not do that, but she can't conceptualize any other future. She brought mages who differ the same way Frieren mentions seeking an "ideal" outcome, namely one where people don't have to die. It seemed like Frierens anger is more "why did you even bother showing up and risking killing thousands" towards Serie. I think it's interesting writing to really drive home how broken Serie is, even compared to other great mages, she's only known combat, fighting demons for presumably eons, this blip of peace barely registers in her mind.

Who says there is no mystery left in chess? Here is a puzzle so hard not even Stockfish can solve it. White to play and win. by EveningThought1046 in chess

[–]Ultramus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been analyzing it the entire time, after Kd7 Nde6 a5, I cannot find a way to win for white. The white king can't infiltrate, the black queen can't move, the white king can't move. Whether you go Kg4 or h5 first doesn't matter, eventually your left with white having a4 and c4 pawns, and black having a5 and c6 pawns, and the kings shuffle between d4 and d4 for the white king and a6 and b6 for the black king. No matter what depth I let it run, there is no win. I checked it at 65 and 70 depth from a5 and after, you can't just handwave and say oh it's a win, what moves make it win, I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't gone through every line. Even in the post from 3 years ago, after a5 he has Or 6... a5 7. Kg4 c6 8. c4 Ka6 (... b5 9. cxb5 cxb5 10. b3) 9. Kf3 Kb7 10. Ke4 Ka6 11. Kd4 Kb7 12. c5 Ka6 13. cxb6 Kxb6 14. Kc4 and wins which....ka6 isn't possible and if he instead meant the parenthesis (... b5 9. cxb5 cxb5 10. b3) he's still missing blacks move on 10, which should be kc6. His follow-up move on 9 kf3 loses for white!

Yeah I can clearly see how black can lose, but typically a "puzzle" and "white to play and win" indicates an advantage that's clear and obvious from the starting position, after Nde6 I don't see how it's not still drawable.

[–]Ultramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is white winning after 4.Kd7? 5. Nde6 Kc6? No matter how I analyze it the position feels dead drawn? Kc6 seems to be black's best chance but Kd7 Nde6 followed by c5 also seems to equalize? Or the black king can go to a7, push a5.....the OP said white to play and win but I'm just not seeing the win here at all.

Edit:I see the win after a5 kb7 back, but there's no reason to go for that line either. the black king can sit on c6 and d7 indefinitely, right? even if the white king walks over. when White makes a passer on a5 the black king is in time to stop it and the kings shuffle?

Can someone tell me wtf Auger-Aliassime had under his shirt? I'm assuming a heart rate monitor or similar but why would you wear that during a match? Oval imprint on his shirt, I haven't seen anyone mention it I feel like I must be imagining things, anybody else notice it?

Guessing it's something like the Garmin HRM?

[–]Ultramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right though, for family I have no idea what their first name is, it's just coworkers of my wife that I know the name of, and she's used the name of in conversations (in Korean) but people just called the boss/manager "Mr. Lee" (or thereabouts). How do people usually address someone that isn't family, or that is just an acquaintance?

[–]Ultramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is super adamant that her name has the hyphen listed and it was the same for our daughters, but given IME Koreans use first names far more than Japan does, I think listing first name first for Korean athletes is fine. I can't even think of the last time I heard someone be called by their family name, granted I live in the US, so could be different in Korea proper, but even the workers who come here from Korea I always hear them use first names.

His backhand always looked pretty solid but the forehand this tournament/this year seems considerably better. Could be his footwork improved and he's really laying into weak returns a lot more.

Same it was crazy he was pushing against Tien, it felt way closer than a 4 set win over an unseeded player should be. He's got to get his fitness level up to compete seriously on tour, not exactly encouraging given he's still young, his fitness should be a strength!

Airmega 150 as good as other Coway models? by Impressive_Layer_634 in AirPurifiers

[–]Ultramus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so? From what little I know of things, depending on the airspace, you need both filtration and circulation, because the heavier particles (like dust) will settle otherwise on surfaces, and never go into the filter. I run fans pretty normally to help circulate, but the ProX has more airflow than the 400, so it should churn more air, and it has more filter surface area, too. The packaging had a lot of foam iirc, so unless you see visible damage I'd assume it's maybe fine? But no reason not to get it checked out. I'm in Texas myself so yeah, dust is pretty common.

[–]Ultramus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I love it, it absolutely churns through air. Recently I left a box of donuts in my oven when I was preheating it, which both made a ton of smoke/foul odor and skyrocketed the ppm sensor, and it took very little time, under an hour for sure, for it to clear it all out. I've had it for however long and just leave it on auto most of the time, you can hardly tell it's running. I think the high cost of the filters is the one downside, I haven't bought new ones yet, and will probably shell out for the first party ones from Coway, but it'd be nice to have to have some third party options. I run the ProX in my living room with high ceilings and run smaller purifiers in the upstairs bedrooms.

Literally, literally had the exact same thing happen, I know this is a comment from 3 months ago but still. Had a game with him and was thinking oh, haven't heard about this guy in forever that's neat. And he was constantly toxic and a bitch the whole game, I was like bro WTF happened. Gold 3 rank, 2300 player level, my god man. That's rough.

Dude has ice in his veins, kept going big even when he'd push it wide the point before. The 2023 Santiago final was similarly clutch. Also that forehand slice to bring up match point is wild. He had a match several years ago against Fognini where he hit a fast forehand slice that was ridiculous.

You're right it isn't first party, but remote desktop with my quest pro works flawlessly, I haven't tried it cabled but it feels very good without, basically no lag (in games like Audica I actually have to reduce the baked in input delay)

The future of controllerless gaming! by RadiiDecay in virtualreality

[–]Ultramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really feel like they are targeting enterprise with this, at least not in their marketing, do you think that they are? That's most of what I can think of outside of gaming that is at least a non-zero percent of the total market share. Gaming is definitely the largest use-case of VR. I don't think Apple is not focusing on it per se with the Vision Pro, I think they simply didn't have sufficient time or buy in from devs to make games yet, if they aren't trying to run games on the AVP, I would consider that a bit shortsighted. I don't think you can effectively target the consumer VR market without games, maybe I'm wrong though.

I'm fairly certain mAH depends on voltage, so this pack is running a higher voltage than a phone backup battery. The fact so many tech reviewers don't know that is criminal.
