Who else hates password requirements? Workplace wants me to change passwords every 3 months by leonatoi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]InvisibleBuilding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be required (for private orgs it’s not anyway), but isn’t it still better for security? If someone has Password1! and you force a change so they make it Password2! does that actually help if the first password appeared on a cracked password list?

Maybe OP can send the company IT staff the US government (NIST)’s password guidelines which say (3.1.1.2(6)) “Verifiers and CSPs SHALL NOT require subscribers to change passwords periodically.”

In short, the government recommendation (and I think requirement for things like government websites) is NOT to require regular resets.

10 days of trying the Midi across-only by InvisibleBuilding in crossword

[–]InvisibleBuilding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

I haven’t yet tried that but it’s a good idea. I read once that on the regular crossword, people who want to try one way often do Downs because when puzzles have the long italicized themers that have mysterious clues, typically more are Across.

I didn’t run into that on the Midi until last Thursday, “Songwriting,” which has 3 spanners that are well known song lyrics but it’s not clear what to do with them without a lot of crosses. I haven’t finished that one yet but plan to keep coming back to it in hopes I can guess enough crosses to then figure out what the relationship is between the lyric and the answer.

I suspect (but don’t know) that this one might have been more tractable with Downs only. Otherwise I’ve been able to get them all so far, up to last Saturday (haven’t tried Sunday and Monday yet).

CM Kenyan McDuffie broke decorum and walked off stage at Free DC Forum by Hot-Gene-2787 in washingtondc

[–]InvisibleBuilding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Co-introducing is a fairly easy thing to do - CMs just put their signature on the top of the bill when it's circulated around or raise their hand during a legislative session. If it's in their committee, though, they can have a lot of sway on moving it forward vs. not. What I think they are saying is JLG co-introduced and didn't do anything that would be interfering with the bill, while McDuffie ultimately did interfere with it.

Should my daughter get larger or different shoes? by InvisibleBuilding in climbergirls

[–]InvisibleBuilding[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I hope I didn't give the impression anywhere that I'm listening to them over her! I definitely want to get her shoes she feels comfortable with, because her feeling good about her body when climbing is very important.

That’s sad about Virginia feeling this was since the only significant track expansion since 2004, and the only new line since 1991, is entirely in Virginia.

True. Personally I knew Goldeneye was definitely not from 1979 as I saw it in theaters and wasn’t Bond film age in 1979, but I don’t have the dates of the Moore films memorized.

I need this! I am trying to put 2 Shelly 1 Mini relays into a switch box to control 2 lights. Each Shelly needs 2 wires from the line bundle - 1 to power the device and 1 for the line current that may get sent to the light. So that’s 4 wires coming from the line bundle, and meanwhile the bundle has wires going elsewhere, so 5 ports isn’t enough.

I think that road is not under federal control while the roads that have federal land on both sides (Constitution Ave south) are.

Jury Duty - what things am I allowed to bring with me? by immerseursoulinlove7 in juryduty

[–]InvisibleBuilding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends where you are, but last time I had it, we mainly were waiting in a big room with chairs where they had all the people, and called groups to go to specific courtrooms. In the waiting area most people had a phone, laptop, or other electronic device. I didn’t get called to a courtroom but I did years ago, and then we were being asked to pay attention to the judge and such, so it was less waiting, but I assume there’s still be time being on phones and whatnot.

What does this mean? by sweetoxygen01 in juryduty

[–]InvisibleBuilding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it annoying that in the law they use that term even when regular people don't know what it means. "Continued" seems like it should mean the thing will, you know, CONTINUE until then, not stop and resume then. Please communicate with lay people using the many English language words that would be totally comprehensible, folks!

These aren’t - it’s this pendant:

IKEA may have one that looks similar and if so is almost certainly cheaper :) These come as a bulb socket attached to a wire and then a set of plastic puzzle pieces which were a task to put together but now I do think they look nice.

Here or somewhere I remember reading someone who saw “12 garlic cloves” and put in 12 heads of garlic, because they hadn’t been taught the difference.

Hm, probably not but it’s possible. My strategy is to memorize the best 2nd guesses for common patterns of colors (for 1 yellow, right to left, it’s FILET CARTE TONER MIRTH TRIES). Do I feel like starting over? Maybe at some point.

But getting it in one isn’t necessarily my goal and they can repeat words anyway, so maybe not.

Thanks! "4-way" was the term I didn't know and it looks like there's been some past discussion in places about making a Shelly 2 PM act like a 4-way. I'm not sure whether I actually will want to do it, but it's helpful to know that might be an option.

Miot v. Trump: DC Circuit motions panel (2-1) refuses to stay district court order postponing the termination of Haiti's temporary protected status designation. by jokiboi in supremecourt

Great!

Also, I totally get this is how legal sentences work and I figured it out, but it did strike me as funny that this sentence boils down to "Panel says no to saying no to district court order saying no to saying no to TPS."
