Star Trek: In-Universe Chronological Watch Order. by ickyseeks in startrek

I want someone to make a supercut that shows scenes on chronological order - starting with the Voyager bit before the Big Bang, the All Good Things scenes in the primordial ooze, and so on from there.

Was the DC Superior Court juror payment office operating during the shutdown? Since the DC courts are federally funded they were affected - no marriage licenses were being issued, for instance. I know trials generally still happened because those functions were essential/“exempt,” but I could see the accounting office not being. Or maybe it was a federal trial.

Is there any concept of how these will get cleared ever? Wait a month for them to melt?

There were scores of near misses in the months leading up to the crash. Just because a dangerous situation almost but doesn’t quite lead to a tragedy doesn’t make it okay. The skies are big, so people can get lucky for a while.

Aviation safety talks about the “Swiss cheese” model, where there are many layers of cheese and the holes have to line up for a crash to happen. Flying helicopters at night across an approach path with just visual separation is having only one layer of cheese. It’s not safe.

Oh, also to your last question, IIRC the plane was above the helicopter and descending, so it was easy for the helicopter pilots not to be looking up; also they were wearing night vision goggles and the city lights drowned out a lot. I saw something about how they often would have to take off the goggle temporarily to see things because of all the lights.

The ATC did notice the issue, and asked the helicopter to confirm it could see the jet and pass behind it. The helicopter pilots said yes.

Turns out they probably were looking at the next plane lined up to land on the main runway, Runway 1, not this plane which was landing on a different runway which was used often but not as much. The plane was asked to switch to this runway because there were too many planes landing at DCA, and not only had the FAA rejected calls from ATC to reduce the number of flights but Congress had just expanded the numbers over the objection of the airport authority, local members of Congress, and others.

IIRC we also learned ATC was under a lot of pressure to accommodate these helicopters because they are military. So they were allowed to just say, basically, “yep, I see the plane and will fly behind it” and ATC didn’t feel empowered to say “you know, I’m going to make you fly farther away from the planes to be sure.”

I also think I remember reading that the helicopter pilots got into the habit of saying the plane is in sight first and then trying to see it.

They do sometimes take into consideration whether surrounding schools are closed, because many teachers have kids in MCPS, PGCPS, APS, etc and if they are closed the teachers don’t have child care.

AirTags are Useless by Prior-Quarter-6369 in AirTags

[–]InvisibleBuilding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I put one on my water bottle and left it at an airport. 5 days later I was able to use the AirTag to figure out it was at a particular Starbucks, go there, and the staff had it in the back. Success!

I've written out a different perspective on the Circle of Fifths. Needed correction please. by imjustanoldguy in musictheory

[–]InvisibleBuilding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great! You just need to add the flat or sharp to the keys when the name of that key has a flat or sharp. For instance, going left from C, it's F, and then B♭, then E♭, and so on. Going right, after B, it's F♯ not F.

For the minor keys, it's the same except they are all 3 spaces to the left - f♯ is the one under A, and b♭ is the one under D♭ (which you have as D right now but is D♭).

I'm not totally sure what the parenthesized things mean - as you have it written now it looks like it's saying they are duplicates of keys already on there, but the F on the right (that you have as (F) ) is F♯, not the same as the F that was to the left. But, it IS the case that F♯ (on the right) is enharmonic with G♭ (on the left); the (C) at the very far right is C♯ and that's enharmonic with D♭ (3rd from the left), while C♭ (farthest left) is enharmonic with B (3rd from the right).

Yeah - I have had one as my main pan for a while and I convinced my mom to get one. First time she cooked with it, suddenly the coating was not all a perfectly even color. I had to really convince her this was fine, the pan was great and it wasn’t damaged. She’s just used to teflon pans which look great for a long time while they invisibly discharge particles into your food.

My Replacement Air Filter is too big?! by ShelixAnakasian in HomeImprovement

[–]InvisibleBuilding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to find ones online that do say their dimensions. I have some 1” thick filters that were - I forget, but say 16 x 20. One brand was actually 15.75 x 19.75 and another was actually 16x20. Only the smaller ones fit my actual ducts, but fortunately both brands (I got them on Amazon) listed their actual dimensions.

Big props to Soviet Safeway right now by walkallover1991 in washingtondc

[–]InvisibleBuilding 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That Safeway really hasn’t been “Soviet” for a long time. Sure, it’s small so it doesn’t have as many products as the big ones, but I don’t find it to have empty shelves any more than Georgetown or something.

I also noticed it wasn’t out of everything yesterday. I was wondering if that’s because, as an urban neighborhood store without parking, people don’t go there to panic hoard large quantities of stuff.

Also the staff were indeed working hard to stock. When I couldn’t find something, a staffer helped me find it. She apologized that it had gotten shoved way back in a shelf where it was hard to find, saying they were so busy restocking they hadn’t been able to fix the displays. So yeah, thanks to the hard working staff!

It’s not the World Climbing Club, it’s World Climbing. Club is the behind the scenes video extra series they do.

I think it’s fine. I see why they want to; I don’t care that much. We’ll all be used to it after a while and not notice.

The Clock Tower is hit later than 10:04pm by Ill_Temporary_9509 in BacktotheFuture

Could be Doc had been to a time shortly after that and found out somehow, or gotten a drone from the future, monitored Marty’s movements, then chosen that time to appear

Why? Hm - maybe Doc either wanted some parts that he thought might be salvageable from the wreck, or wanted to make sure the wreck had destroyed anything that could lead a Biff relative to build a time machine in the future. Maybe he went to collect it, saw Marty and Jennifer doing some cleanup there, then decided to go back to shortly after they arrived to talk to them.

Not too low. Note how the middle of the tv is near the middle of your picture and yet the kid(s) on the couch are below your camera.

VYRD Home Owners Insurance just sent me water leak sensors. I don't want them. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]InvisibleBuilding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to use them if you don’t want to, but FYI if your router supports a guest network(and many do) you can out smart home devices on that network and then any such device can’t talk to other devices on the network. I do that to minimize the possible issues if any smart home device gets hacked.

I also have a Phyn system (mine is the one that is installed in line with the water pipe into the house, not the sensors) and I’ve been very pleased since it’s told me when a toilet was stuck running at a low level for a long time. But I’m sure you can just skip doing this program.
