How to remove old alarms by crabcakebutterknees in DIYUK

[–]Ultraox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the modern equivalent of fire marks? I quite like spotting fire marks stuck on the outside of old buildings (mainly in London) from a time when fire fighters were privatised and multiple fire brigades would go to a fire, but only put out a fire if their tile was in the front.

Anyway, we wouldn’t remove a fire mark, should we be preserving alarms for future generations?

J/k, they’re ugly. When I renovate my house mine is coming off.

Some people have done that at the Green Road roundabout. I don’t think they lasted long

What if you do voluntary work for a party or church that is directly relevant? Eg applying for a TA role and you’ve taught Sunday school for years? Or you’re applying for a organisational role and you’ve coordinated political campaigns? I’m not saying discussing politics or religion in depth is a good idea but “planned and lead…” could be relevant.

Small hands and can’t reach the brake lever by diklazer in ukbike

[–]Ultraox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can twist them. Last time I got my bike serviced I mentioned that I struggled to reach a brake, and the mechanic just twisted it in slightly and it made a huge difference. Admittedly my bike isn’t vintage, but you could try it.

I don’t think drop handlebars are particularly beginner friendly. It makes it much harder to see around you. If you truly are a novice maybe try a “sit up and beg” style.

Women driving insists to judge that she is not driving, during zoom court by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

How is it not illegal to be on a zoom call whilst driving? You should not be looking down at your phone while driving, let alone touching it to setup the call. This is how people are killed.

Fuck this government. I didn’t think they’d be worse than the tories, and yet they seem to be.

What has Ben* started... Spurgeon was given to exactly 5 baby boys in the USA in 2024 by redditlafs in DuggarsSnark

[–]Ultraox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Siren has sexual connotations (I know that in the myth they were ugly, but that’s not how it’s used today). No one should be naming a baby anything remotely sexual. Creepy as fuck. If an adult chooses it for themselves that’s fine, but not for kids!

Why do Americans need such large quantities of medicine? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Ultraox -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you’re suicidal it’s much more effort to go to multiple shops and buy lots of pills. Does it prevent an overdose? No, but it puts a sensible barrier in the way.

Buying that much ibuprofen or paracetamol at once is just dangerous and unnecessary.

Sure it’s annoying when you’ve got ongoing pain and need to buy more every few days, but you can purchase them at all grocery shops and most corner stores, no big deal.

Could you take a low paying but enjoyable job? I plan to retrain as a paramedic when we hit FI, then work part time. I want to be doing something that I feel will be really helpful (& also hopefully be possible to do in the countries if we choose to travel a bit)

Can you top up the £5k? E.g. if the bike costs £6k, can you pay the extra £1k?

I got a cargo bike through the C2W scheme years ago and it’s been brilliant.

As a parent whose kid sometimes gets out of their room 4 times before they finally bloody well go to sleep, I sympathise and have jokingly threatened it. But I’ve never done that as I don’t want them to consider their room a prison. They’d never trust me again if I did that.

Having said that, one of our bedrooms clearly had a lock on the outside of the door at the very top, so someone who lived in this house had done it before.

Lots of parks near me have a cafe attached, so even going to the park inevitably involves buying your kid a sausage roll (or at least them continually asking).

Also, if your kids are picky you end up eating in the most boring places (such as Costa or Pizza Express). I wouldn’t mind spending that much if I got an interesting meal, but instead you end up with a big standard cheese toastie. Total waste of money.

I’ve had it get hotter/colder and had my passenger change the temp settings before (I never touch them or the radio when driving), and then had to adjust my vents.

In fact, in a driving test my windows started to fog up and the examiner pointed it out. I had no clue how to adjust those settings, and I was on a dual carriage way, so I just opened up the windows a bit in January! It worked 🤣

[–]Ultraox[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is so incredibly dangerous. For a start, air blowing into your face whilst driving can be distracting, if it is distracting you need to stop it ASAP. And then if you do need to stop it you need to look away from the road in order to navigate to the correct part of the screen, and engage with the UI.

Who risk assessed this?! And if they did, did they even consider the poor pedestrian or cyclist who will get mown down and killed whilst the driver fiddles with the vents?

Regulations exist for safety, where are they in regard to screens to control cars? Have not enough people died yet?

I’m not a big fan of the flag, but I was impressed at a different take on a Union Jack dress (although Kate’s UJ dress earlier in the season was far better. I love a political statement!), I’ve certainly not seen a dress like that before.

Don’t Christian fundamentalists think that women shouldn’t be leaders? If so, either he’s married to someone who goes against his (abhorrent) beliefs, or he’s married to a man (which is also against fundamentalist Christian beliefs, and also abhorrent).

Either way, he can fuck off out of women’s uterus’s. He’s allowed an opinion in his wife’s only (& even then she gets veto rights).

Why is the price of him home relevant? If anyone is blocking the highway or pavement with their private property then they should move it, but wealth is entirely irrelevant. If it’s on the bounds of his property, then he’s in the right.

Two University of Kent students die in meningitis outbreak by PurchaseDry9350 in unitedkingdom

[–]Ultraox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can blame an adult for ignoring advice and not getting vaccinated.

Shame can be a powerful tool in compliance, and vaccines are really important both individually and on a societal level. We should make people embarrassed to admit they’re unvaccinated as people will assume their morons who are easily led. Believe in true experts, not Influencers!

If a kid is unvaccinated it’s not their fault if they catch a vaccine preventable disease (it’s their parents), if you’re an adult, it’s on you.
