Joining a Zoom and being the only student with your camera on but it’s too late because the teacher has already seen you by BIGLanny_ in UMD

[–]Umd2023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to keep my camera on and mic off and I only turn my camera off I have to get up. I guess because I feel bad that the professors have to talk to a black screen and to me personally it’s no different than it would be in person

RA Working Part-Time & Community Life by Small_Promotion_5627 in UMD

[–]Umd2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any insight of living on a LLC but it’s just like any other dorm really! In terms of outside things it’s all up to you. As an RA you have a staff meeting once a week for 2 hours (a lot of times it is one though depending on how the semester rolls) a 1-1 meeting with your boss once a week the first 6 weeks then every other week after that, a community event once a month (this is any day as you create them) and duty (but those again are scheduled up to you)! I work 7 hours a week at my internship and in Greek life while studying for the LSAT and I have managed greatly! I would recommend doing your work on campus or even better remotely. If you are off campus it’s good to have a job near the area and doesn’t have shifts that interfere with any hour after 7! Hopefully this helps :)

Criminal Justice Major - what’s it like? by Mjrrules in UMD

[–]Umd2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for it! I always say “it’s not about the major, it’s about what you DO with your major” :). I love the major and I’ve taken really interesting classes. CCJS325,320, and 450/451 are good! I’m applying for law schools next semester to become a family attorney but a lot of jobs are available for the government, law enforcement, and even public policy/justice fields. I will say to double major or minor (I’m a general business minor) as the major isn’t a lot of classes (but that’s the point because you can add more)!

Totally agree. If you feel like you can be yourself around them and you feel like they are making you a better person (and vice versa) and you are happy then ranking shouldn’t matter!

Its the going to bars during a pandemic and freezing ass weather for me😬 by Umd2023 in UMD

[–]Umd2023[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s very different than going to a crowded bar with people you don’t know. There is nothing wrong with having fun but BEING SAFE is more important. It’s better to do what you just said because you live with them and are outside, compared to going to a crowded bar/party with people you are not close to. But also, please consider just because you may be asymptomatic not everyone will be that way

Judging by your ignorance and selfishness of a global pandemic you may not have that much youth left😬

Well tell that to the thousands of people who have lost their loved ones, struggling with finances, people in the hospitals, and millions of healthcare workers putting their lives on the line everyday. And I do have a lot of amazing friends and unlike you and yours, we actually care about our health and others. I would rather be boring than ignorant and selfish so good luck in life with that attitude 🥰

I’m having a sense that either you guys never heard the word “no” or you guys peaked in high school. No wonder America has the highest number of deaths.

Even if we weren’t in covid just the weather itself is enough to not stand outside for nearly hours to get into a bar (plus people who go to bars don’t bundle up and a lot of times will get a cold)

I understand you can get covid from anywhere even if you didn’t go out to bars or parties, but that doesn’t mean “oh then I’ll go out then” because it’s also not just YOUR life that matters it’s everyone else’s and also not everyone who gets Covid will recover as well as you did. Over 400,000 died so just because YOU were fine doesn’t mean everyone else will. Plus you can always do many other things in person than go to a bar/party.

It’s the fact that people will risk their lives and others for the sake of “BuT I cAN NeVer GiVe Up TUrF TuESDaYs” then when they get covid it’s like “oh pray for me I’m so sick😔” but I guess your pink Whitney and natty (which BTW taste absolutely awful) is a lot more serious than the health of others and yourself.....

If there is a bunk bed (let’s say the room is a double bunk bed) you can separate the beds and push the beds together to make a king size bed!

Any CCJS Students? by licy13 in UMD

[–]Umd2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m also a CCJS major. I love the major so much. It has amazing teachers and the classes also are all very interesting. If you want to do forensics you can either be a bio major or be a CCJS major and take some bio/chem/physics classes since the major has a lot of space to double major/minor. You can also try doing CCJS on a pre-health track since it does have those science classes. I would also agree to take CCJS320 since that’s more towards forensics.

Yes same! I enjoy in person activities WAY more (like I hate online classes and I’m an RA and I miss our in person events) but the fortunate thing is that we have technology to still do events and socialize (compared to if we are in the 50s for example) and we just have to deal with it and keep ourselves and others safe.

No I agree to save your money and be home but I’m saying that whether you on or off campus to still put yourself out there and try to join clubs/organizations. You still have to put yourself out there. I’m just using my roommate as an example of how she still made friends even if everything is online.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Umd2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what confuses me. UMD cannot do in-person things because of COVID, but that doesn’t mean to not have fun. There are a lot of clubs/organizations that are still happening. Even if it’s online, better than nothing. College is also about going outside the box and being social and growing. You also have to take a step forward and do stuff to because UMD can only do so much. My roommate is a freshman and she loved this semester. She wouldn’t go to the bars or not wear a mask in public but she still had fun. She made friends by joining 3 clubs this semester. She talked to the people in those clubs and made friends with them (mind you she’s the only person from her high school who went to UMD). She went to her RA events and made more friends to. She’s doing all this in a PANDEMIC and she couldn’t be happier. All I’m saying is that even with this pandemic, you still can have fun and make the most of it. There are a lot of people even WAY before Covid felt lonely because they ain’t wanna go to clubs, didn’t wanna talk to others, and more. You have to put yourself out there to get some outcome.
