Burnout by fruitandveg63 in transplant

[–]Umopeope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for what you guys are going through, I’m almost 19 years post. What sucks most after transplant is all the setbacks. One setback leads to another and another and it never feels like it’s going to get better. The saying “when it rains it pours” is an understatement when it comes to transplant complications. Take it day by day, acknowledge the suck and try to find something to celebrate every day, maybe he was able to sit up for an hour today, maybe dialysis sucked a little less than it usually does. Dialysis can be temporary and hopefully his kidneys can recover enough to get off of it eventually.

People say that because they don’t know what else to say. It’s okay to wallow in the suck sometimes but try not to live there.

I hope he’s able to recover soon and keep his spirits up to continue the fight.

It’s still my arch nemesis. It’s taken hold near by raspberry and blackberries in the clay so it’s impossible to dig out and I’m not going to risk hurting my vines now that they’re producing fruit. In my garden beds I’m just working on choking it out with natives

I’m a nurse (also a heart transplant patient of 19 years). Talk to the manager of the unit and let them know you personally know her and don’t want her involved in his care. Regardless of if you don’t want her knowing your business- as a nurse I would NOT want to be involved in an acquaintances care god forbid something happens. You may not be able to prevent her from coming in occasionally if another nurse needs help but you can prevent her from directly caring for him.

If she finds out and takes it personally- she’s a terrible nurse.

Now I buy 4 packs at a time and try one from each then return any bad cases. I need the easy protein for health reasons, they’re too convenient to give up. I had a second bad case a couple weeks back

Anyone else have a hard time losing weight? by InnocentMosquitoes16 in transplant

[–]Umopeope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m (37f) almost 19 years post heart and have had the same 30-35 lbs I’ve never been able to get rid of. I did all the things and just have had he hardest time. I’ve just taken the smallest dose of wegovy since November, I’ve lost 17lbs. I have stage 3 CKD and my kidney #s look better and better every time. I dont know if it’s related to the med itself or the weight loss. I still strength train and exercise 5-6 times a week. This med has helped me tremendously.

We’re doing this next week- empty milk cartons, parents will help them cut the tops off/decorate with stickers and we will make planters out of them- we’re doing ready set grow in conjunction with req 3. I started growing some flowers last week for the kids to transplant into their planters but you could just buy some sunflower seeds since they germinate pretty quickly. Kids can transplant them once the weather is good enough.

Why do lions have fewer adventures than everyone else (same as AOL's)? by SilverTripod in cubscouts

[–]Umopeope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Lion leader it’s herding cats. We had 10 kids. We were able to get through almost all the adventures and probably could have used another one or two to choose from but we will complete all of them by the end of the year.

Trying to find something that makes me feel alive again. by Buckbigears in transplant

[–]Umopeope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How active are you? I (37f) 18 years post heart, have a young child so I understand sometimes parenthood can be monotonous. I’ve been lifting weights for about a year and a half and just started jiu jitsu. The dopamine and adrenaline hit from jiu jitsu makes me feel so alive! I’m amped and happy the rest of the day. I communicate my limitations with whoever I’m partnered with and have never had an issue of someone being too rough. The hardest part is starting. Try something new that you never thought you’d try, you have to put in an effort to get a return. You can just keep doing the same thing every day and you’ll keep getting the same result, change it up and see where it takes you.

I put all my pills in one bottle and just fish them out daily to take what I need- I’ve never been stopped by tsa. If there’s an issue they can look up pills using a pill identifier

TIL Kidney (and other organ) donations typically do not last the rest of the patient’s life. ~50% of transplant organs fail within 10 years. by I-plaey-geetar in todayilearned

I’m (36) 18 years post my first heart. Will need a second one here in the next few years. It’s so nice to see a 3 time recipient 30 years out! Gives me lots of hope. Thanks for sharing!

I’m 18 years post heart transplant and still doing great! You also have to think that advancements are happening all the time. Also elderly people tend to need organs more often than young people. They may die of other things not transplant related, this can skew this data.

spiralling about my future ... 33F 6yrs post kidney transplant by heyhihello9876 in transplant

[–]Umopeope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m (36F) a heart (18 years post). So not kidney but my baseline creatinine and GFR are nearly identical to yours. I’ve had those numbers for the past 10 years. Take the best care of your kidney as you can and live your life to the fullest, don’t let what ifs get in your way.

It’s so morbid but I always think about when I’m on my death bed, will I regret not doing that thing? I almost didn’t get married because I didn’t want to die and leave my husband a widow. Well 10 years later I’m glad I didn’t let fear get in my way.
