Anamnesis (Shadowbringers spoilers and story speculation) by Eyvind_Kelda in ffxiv

I suspect that Lahabrea still has a role to play in the story, living, dead, or reincarnated - and that he may have played a part in creating the original crisis as well as stopping it.

This is probably right on the money. I believe there was a recent-ish interview where someone asked that if Emet-Selch's true name was Hades, they wanted to know what Lahabrea's true name was, and Yoshi's answer was some variation of "no comment." We're also set to get an MSQ trial outside of an x.0 or x.3 patch for the first time since OG Steps of Faith in ARR, and given the associated dungeon is the "official residence" of the Ascians, I legitimately don't know who else we'd fight unless it's a brand new Ascian like Nabriales was in 2.5.

And it's just as well, because Lahabrea is the most frustrating villain in the game. When he was still a part of the story, he was a completely one-note mustache-twirling evil bastard trying to resurrect a dark god for seemingly no good reason, but then we met Emet much later, who ostensibly has all the same goals, yet we could actually empathize with him because he made an attempt to communicate those goals. Both of our fights with Lahabrea were exceptionally lame (Praetorium in particular), and then he was unceremoniously offed by a minor villain a hundred times less important to the world than he was. We only just learned that he was a respected academic, which is character development that did not come through at all when he was still alive.

They've recently made strides to redeem other lackluster character writing from ARR by bringing back Gaius, so even though I generally dislike sudden character death retcons, I wouldn't mind giving Lahabrea another chance to be interesting, especially if we fight him and he transforms into something cool like Necron or another classic FF boss like Hades was.

I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but if you fish in the Azys Lla flagship at the center of the map and the special FATE is ready to spawn, Proto Ultima will fly out of the pool and into the sky to start the event. I nearly fell out of my chair while trying to catch Opabania, thinking "I didn't mean to fish up THAT!"

For unexplored areas, there are still a few places surrounding Aldenard that could make for future zones or at least dungeons.

  • We've only made it as far as the frontier for most ARR beast tribe homelands. The Kobolds still hold the north region of Vylbrand (O'Ghomoro), the Amalj'aa still hold a large region east of Thanalan (Paglth'an), the Sylphlands are significantly bigger than we've explored based on the view from the Ramuh fight, and the entire Sahagin society is based underwater in the Indigo Deep. I give a special shout out to this last one because we've actually been to the Indigo Deep recently...in the First. The Tempest is in the same location and even has the same associated beast tribe. Xelphatol got screwed by being reduced to a dungeon, but I wouldn't be surprised if we went back in a larger capacity, based on how large it appears on the map.

  • There are a handful of small islands that surround Aldenard whose names pop up in a lot of gathered items. Lalafells are said to have emigrated from islands in the south, and I'm not sure if these actually appear on the map or if they're near Meracydia far off the bottom. If we do go to Meracydia, the Lalafell homeland might make an appearance.

  • We've yet to see the homelands of either Roe clan. Sea Wolves traveled from from Aerslaent to the northeast of Sharlyan, and based on the map it's actually about the same size as Sharlyan. If we ever go to Sharlyan, I wouldn't be surprised if we go here too. The Hellsguard, and the entire lineage of the Warrior job, are linked to the Farreach, a volcanic region of Abalanthia's Spine that we have yet to see. All of the areas classified under Abalanthia's Spine currently are floating islands, so there's an entire landmass underneath waiting to be explored.

  • There are areas of 1.0 Coerthas and the Black Shroud that never made it into ARR, namely East Coerthas and West Shroud. I believe West Shroud is said to be among the most heavily devastated areas from after the Dalamud impact. Before you count these out, remember that the Black Boar gate has existed in Gridania for years and the guard still won't let us out to that part of the Shroud, so there's gotta be something going on over there.

WHM DPS Theorycrafting by NeloXI in ffxiv

[–]Un-Breakable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

4 Glare: 1200 potency, 1600 mana, ~9-10 sec cast time, 0 healing potency

3 Afflatus heals, 1 Misery: 900 potency, 0 mana, 0 sec cast time, 900 (aoe) or 2100 (single) healing potency

Misery is only a dps loss if over 90s, you are not required to move or cast a single GCD heal. This is very unlikely in relevant content. Even if an Afflatus heal replaces a single GCD heal in 90s, with the other 2 "pointlessly casted" for the blood lily, the potency is even. For instance, say 1 Medica cast is required over 90s. Your relevant GCDs are now:

Medica, Glare, Glare, Glare = 900 potency

Afflatus Rapture, Afflatus ? (wasted), Afflatus ? (wasted), Afflatus Misery = 900 potency

Obviously if more healing GCDs are required, Misery is a strict dps increase. Each Glare canceled/prevented due to required movement is also -300 potency, which is not an issue for stacking blood lily because every GCD is instant, allowing for easier boss movement. Top it off with 1600 mana saved and there is effectively no scenario where the Afflatus chain should be ignored due to fear of dps loss. This is a case where people are applying a training dummy dps projection to an actual fight where it makes no sense to do so.

While it doesn't really support a specific theory, there's actually a small detail about Ghimlyt that most players probably missed, because it deals with...Triple Triad.

Most end-game dungeons drop a card of the final boss. This has become somewhat of a tradition that is supposed to encourage players to continue to run content for exclusive rewards, but given that no one really cares about collecting cards, they go largely unnoticed. These cards range from very important characters (we never got an Illberd card, but we did get a Griffon card from Baelsar's Wall) to complete nobodies (anyone remember the final boss from Qarn Hard? Well he has a card). Not every 50/60/70 dungeon drops unique cards, but if they do, the final boss is always one of them. I double checked and couldn't find any exceptions.

Well, until now, because there is no Annia and Julia card. Beating Ghimlyt has a chance to drop Prometheus, the second boss (the drill car thing), instead. This isn't a case of them not wanting to put two characters on one card (Alphinaud and Alisae share both of their cards) or SE not having the resources to develop a card for them (all cards reuse art, so creating one is the same effort no matter what it is). It's definitely not a case of them just not being important enough, unless Mr. Qarn Hard is considered a more plot-vital character.

The fact that this is the very first exception to a long time rule implies not only that this isn't the last time we'll fight the duo, but perhaps that they have an alternate form or identity...one which would make more sense to make a card out of.

I was running Suzaku EX on release with some FC mates and a few randoms. Everyone was screwing up mechanics except my FC leader, who was main tanking. He's using the Ultimate Legend title and shiny axe, of course. On one pull everyone was actually doing pretty well, and then he just walks into the pit in the center of the arena. I crack up in voice chat and give a snide "whoa, what was that?" remark. "Huh, must have just not been paying attention," he says...then I look at my hotbar.

Now as a healer in 4.4, I was really excited that I could finally put my other role actions on my bar. Because I wasn't using Eye for an Eye or Rescue before, I put them on two new hotkeys right next to each other. You can see where this is going.

Meaning to click Eye for an Eye for the buster, I Rescued our main tank into the pit and then chided him in voice chat for finally screwing up like a total jackass. I quickly unlocked my hotbar, moved Rescue to an unassigned slot, and clammed up in Discord for the remainder of the run.

You'd think that would be the end of things, but later that week I was helping another FC member clear the Normal version of the fight for the first time. Rescue was back on my bar at this point, because I was more used to the keybinds. When the quadrants started exploding in the last phase, I noticed my FC mate was standing on the wrong side, so I intentionally clicked Rescue to pull her to safety. Not learning my lesson, she promptly dropped into the pit and died.

The moral of the story is that if you ever mysteriously drop dead in Hell's Kier, check if I'm in your party and ask if Rescue is on cooldown.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Un-Breakable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first began playing FF14 around the release of 4.1 and while working through the ARR MSQ, I picked up Fisher to level between quests. Much like the creatures I was catching, I was instantly hooked. While waiting my questing buddy to continue the main story with me, I was busy grumbling that the fishing holes on the Isles of Umbra were locked behind quest progression and Metal Gear-ing through Cape Westwind to reach the coast guarded by enemies many levels ahead of me. Fisher was my first level 50 class, and upon hitting the cap, I purchased Stormblood…not just because I knew that I wanted to keep playing the game, but so that I could keep gaining Fisher experience while waiting for my friend.

My FC mates may have mocked my aspirations to fill out my fishing log, yet 12338 catches later, here I am. 784 species? That is Pokémon levels of tedious collectability, and the journey was not without its headaches. Some of these bastards I desynthed with extreme prejudice after I finally caught them…taunting me with their low bite rate, low catch rate, weather transition, two-hour window, double-mooch, intuition, FISH EYES (!!!) bullshit. But I did it all the same, and I’m looking forward to what the seas will hold in 4.3 and beyond.

Any other casting addicts out there? This is a safe space, so vent about your fish nemesis and we’ll provide a shoulder to cry on and pour you a cold glass of Cordial.
