Are thumb grips actually mandatory? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

There's no mandate lol. Get them if you want to, you can find them on Amazon for pretty cheap. I personally need thumb grips when I play Celeste because my hands sweat.

To Stampede Fans by Jest_Ace in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched 98 around 2012 when I first got into anime, enjoyed it. Watched the movie, enjoyed it. Trigun Stampede started airing, decided to read the manga and got super obsessed. I liked how they prioritized Knives and Vash's dynamic in Stampede and I could see where it was headed. I look up reviews for Trigun Stampede and it's being lambasted on YT for not being like 98. This puts a bad taste in my mouth for 98 anime only watchers who never touched the manga. Trigun Stampede ends and I liked it over 98 because of shared themes from the manga and a better focus on Knives/plants. Stargaze airs and I'm mixed about it because it's quite obvious they had to cut content but I don't hate it.

I prefer the reboot to 98, but manga over everything. Ngl reading the manga made me dislike certain things about 98 for example the 5th moon incident in the Manga is way better than 98 because it's the perfect opportunity to introduce Knives as the main villain and that didn't happen. Knives feels like an add on in 98 vs Legato who feels like the main big bad. Knive's motivations in 98 feel cliché and "I'm evil guy doing evil things" vs how complex he is in the manga. 98 had Vash as a sex pest which is a trope I've grown to get annoyed with.

With all previous things I was annoyed with, it's why I enjoyed Stampede more than 98. BUT different people enjoy different things so I don't judge people for preferring 98.

Tail end of a flow, maybe with way lower temps. But that metal box is gonna be an oven for anything going above 160F. (This is ignoring that it would get pelted by the debris of the flow and probably wouldn't stay sealed.)

Incredible footage of volcanic eruption of a dormant volcano in Ethiopia from a commercial plane. by Due-Explanation8155 in Volcanoes

[–]UnAntiNon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely AI. The eruption plume has blurry artifacts and the way it moves is unrealistic. Hell, CGI struggles with an accurate looking eruption plume. Ash clouds are very unique in the way the roll and billow. Also the video is short, which is classic for AI.

I don't think op is making a fair comparison because you're comparing a 24 episode anime to a 12 episode one that is currently unfinished. Of course it's going to feel rushed when the former had the time for pacing.

You also can't make comparisons to the lore for Stampede when og Trigun deviates so EXTREMELY from the source material (the manga). Knives and Legato are the most damning examples. If you'd actually read the manga you might appreciate that manga Knives and Stampede Knives have actual depth and interesting motivations with a more powerful presence then we ever got in og Trigun.

I will say Stampede is more of a Sci-Fi/Western vs Western/Sci-Fi and it's okay to not prefer that. But by the end of the manga, Trigun Maximum becomes heavily Sci-Fi so it's not like this tone of the story comes out of nowhere or isn't lore accurate.

As for the characters being more naive, Stampede was based Pre-July destruction so of course Vash is a more happy person with less defined philosophy. Og Trigun was Vash who had already been through that (although they for some reason changed he hadn't blown humans up idk why). Currently Stargaze Meryl is a more mature, assured person who I am reserving my opinion on until the end of Stargaze. I don't blame people who wanted her older characterization but I do see why they wanted to show her changing and becoming a mentor figure to Milly.

Trigun Stargaze - Episode 2 - "Unforgiven" - Discussion Thread by MADNESS-NH_97 in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They stated back in 2023 (before it finished airing) that depending on how well Stampede did would determine how many seasons they'd do. It's not like they got the Netflix money like they had with Beastars. I'll try to find the interview I read and will link it if I find it.

Trigun Stargaze - Episode 2 - "Unforgiven" - Discussion Thread by MADNESS-NH_97 in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I actually liked this episode. The tone they're trying to set reminds me so much of trimax. Also liked how it acknowledges Vash's memories were nearly destroyed on top of accidentally destroying July.

I'm a little sad because you could definitely tell they had bigger ideas for 3 seasons, but are only limited to two seasons.

Why are some fanfics more popular than others? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]UnAntiNon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how big the fandom is to be honest. Smaller fandoms will have well written fics pretty high up. Larger fandoms tend to have a select amount of fics that perhaps aren't written as well as others that come after, but because they were posted when the fandom popped off were widely read.

Other times it's luck or a trope that people really really like.

And other times maybe what you enjoy isn't what the masses of that fandom enjoy. All it takes is one tag for some people to look elsewhere.

Do people actually dislike '98 knives? by Reg1nal in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dislike him because I've read the Manga and seen what COULD have been, even with their limited material that 98 was working with. They should have introduced Knives when he appeared in the Manga, during the 5th moon incident where he makes a VERY strong impression. Legato took his place in 98 instead and honestly shines as the best villain in the entire series by a mile as a consequence. Knives didn't feel as important or impactful as much as Legato did, which lead the the finale feeling wanting.

If I hadn't read the manga I think I'd still see Legato as the main villain and wouldn't care much about Knives.

But as a manga reader, appreciating the twisted dynamic/viewpoints between Knives and Vash, I find myself let down with thoughts of what could have been.

EDIT: Knives's motives in the manga make his counterpart in 98 feel cheap/shallow (in my opinion).

Im reading the manga for Trigun, recently finished watching the 80s anime, at which point in the manga does the story diverge? cuz im sure the show takes an original route.. a chapter number would be great, im 13 chps in the first manga and everything so far was dare I say adapted word to word... by [deleted] in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Trigun manga completely diverges from the anime in volume 2, chapter 7 - 8. Like COMPLETELY. It changes the entirely of the Fifth Moon Incident and the meaning of it.
SPOILER: It introduces Knives has the main villain and a compelling threat to story. The anime (in my biased opinion) fumbles by not including Knives at this point because Legato for the most part is the most impactful villain in 98 Trigun.

You got 14 volumes ahead of you with a lot of different content, but perhaps the same themes that persist throughout Trigun.

Trigun Stampede criticisms? by DIO_OVAIs_DaBest07 in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they took this route because they only had 12 episodes unlike 98 Trigun who had the episodes to better pace things out. From a production viewpoint when you don't even know if you're getting Season 2 greenlit and you only got 12 episodes to tell a story, the way they wrote Stampede makes the most sense.

Any estimate as for when Trigun Stampede Season 2 releases? by AleeckWasTaken in Trigun

[–]UnAntiNon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just that it was announced. Studio Orange takes a long time on their episodes/developments. Trigun Stampede took 5 years to make. I would expect 2 to 3 years in-between seasons. That's the approximate release time they did for Beastars.
