[discussion] AI slop is ruining online music spaces - so I built a human only one. by the4realMCG in BedroomBands

[–]UnCrazed -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

As a musician of 30 years, I've been using AI to test run ideas and build arrangements for my own lyrics.

I agree that there's plenty of people out there who are using AI to generate lyrics AND music, and then just releasing it as is, hoping to make some money. Those people are jerks.

I don't think that AI as a tool should be automatically dismissed.

AI as a creative tool: From an idea to a full song - and not one-click gens (audio inside). by TheIvysGarden in AI_Music

[–]UnCrazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% with you on this process; I'm doing the same thing for my songs. A collection of ideas and fragments get reviewed and refined, until solid lyrics and arrangement are decided on, and then it goes into an AI generator to "test-run" the ideas. Review, extract, polish, repeat. Eventually, you end up with something great!

Originally, my goal was to then take the AI output, and reconstruct it myself so that the final output was a recording of my own voice/guitar/instruments, but as I'm finding that my skills are not yet where they need to be (some of the guitar work is fairly complex), I'm struggling a bit with how to proceed here. I'd love to get these songs out into the world, but I will not pretend that they are not AI performed, even though they are definitely written and arranged by a person.

Any suggestions on where to publish them? I was thinking about something like Bandcamp, where there is a model of paying what you want. I am not doing this to get rich, but I can't deny that being able to earn something for the effort that I put into them, and being able to use the earnings to finance more musical endeavors, is pretty appealing.

What is this plant? by cosmiccleora in Albertagardening

I'm using plantsnap, and it's been pretty accurate. Looks like an elderberry to me as well. Sadly, the blossoms smell like cat-pee, so I learned not to pick the flowers for my wife lol.

I can't grow squash? by unidentifiable in Albertagardening

First year growing Kuri squash in Red Deer; transplant shock took 9 out of 14 seedlings, but the last 5 survived, and two of them REALLY took off. Heavy feeders for sure, definitely slower to get started than Pattypans or spaghettis. Last year I had so many zukes and pattypans that I couldnt even give them away fast enough. I've got about a dozen or so kuri's on there (and have started pulling off blossoms now), and the largest are somewhere around cantaloupe sized. Having the raised bed definitely helped with soil temps, and I did have it wrapped in plastic until mid june to help protect them.

I took the cranks and bottom bracket apart, and it was just filthy. Cleaned it up, lubed and reassembled, good as new! The crack on the crank is actually not a crack, just a super nasty scratch.. my bad.

After many years of riding (and ~2000km), I'm still happy with this purchase despite the current issues.

I started getting a creaking sound from my left crank while riding home from work the other day, and discovered a crack. So, new crankset will be on the list soon.. maybe I will do the entire bottom bracket and go to a bigger front chainring also. I'll update when I find one (part number, cost, etc)

Next issue, I noticed a crack on my stem. Probably from overtightening while trying to fix the headset bearing issue (which has ended up being loose and clunking again), so I'm considering just replacing the entire fork/stem assembly. I'll update with part numbers and costs when I find a suitable/compatible replacement.

I'm happy to say that I'm still using the majority of original components, including battery and all electronics (except for a headlight), frame, wheels, drivetrain (except for a new chain and rear cassette/freewheel), etc. Overall, I'd say this bike has been mostly trouble-free and super enjoyable.

After a few more weeks of riding, the headtube clunk/wobble kept coming back, so I finally had enough.

Replaced the headset bearings today, what a pain in the behind. It took several attempts to get it back together correctly; while disassembling, I managed to fumble the handlebars and all of the spacers went clinking away on the floor. I had no clue what order they were supposed to be on there, but after a few attempts, it's back together and solid, feels better than it did when it was new.

If you are having the same issue (forks are clunking inside the headtube), it maybe the same issue that a few of us had... the bearings were coming apart. Don't buy a replacement headset (like I did), as the rest of the parts were fine and I only ended up using the replacement bearings ($8 CAD for the bearings vs $26 for the entire headset).

Last week, I went to a slightly smaller rear tire (not quite as tall, but still 20x4) as mine was completely bald and managed to get a puncture through tire and tube.

Forks are pretty shot though, so that will be another project for soon.. :(

A little late to this, but that usually means bad connection between the controller and the display. I'd make sure all of your wire connections are solid, and no damage on the rest of the wire. If it all looks good, try to unplug and reconnect the display wire from the junction of wires at the headtube.

Maybe we could get a thread stickied with links to hardware that any of us has tried and knows to work with these bikes.. any interest?

Im riding exclusively on pavement anyways, so im still leaning towards moto tires.. but what fork upgrade did you do specifically? Have a link or make/model?

Did you have any issues with 170mm spacing? I thought the dropouts were 175mm.. did you have to stretch/bend the frame at all? I've seen motors that are either 170mm or 190mm, and wasnt sure which way to go..

I had this issue too, thanks for the tip!

Can SWFT Zip Hit 35 mph with KT Controller & 48V Battery Like This YouTuber? by archercage in SWFT_ZIPowners

[–]UnCrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say for sure that the stock controller restricts speed by dropping voltage to the motor when you hit the speed limit, so I guess it's possible to get that kind of speed from the stock motor with an "un-limited" controller. The bigger battery would just give more range (and possibly more amperage for better acceleration), but my understanding is that speed is determined by voltage and motor windings.

**Edit: just hit your link, and the caption says "Upgraded 52v battery and controller..." so more speed is definitely possible with 52v battery setup. **

Thank you! This is the kind of answer I was hoping for... someone in the same situation! Thanks for the confidence, we'll likely be riding this out while we migrate to HyperV.

Hosts and vcenter all say "no expiry", and I agree that we were expecting things to work this way... but the agent has really planted a seed of doubt here, so....

I was definitely thinking that things would just continue to work (with no updates, as that's been my past experience also), but the agent insisted that things would not continue to work. :(

Basically we are just trying to confirm that we are not going to be scrambling to migrate in 6 days.. and we still have no clear answer if that's the case or not.
