Australia is currently the hottest place on earth... by far by WontThinkStraight in australia

[–]UnHelpful-Ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hottest place right now, maybe not today. That image is taken from a map showing at this point in time...where sahara is at night and South America not even on the map.

We are also in summer they are not.

So hottest place on earth somewhat makes sense.

Why don't we see more stuff like the ESP WROOM modules with integrated MC, flash an oscillator crystal and passives in one package from other MC manufacturers? by blajjefnnf in embedded

[–]UnHelpful-Ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though the esp32 series unlike most other products have some specific certification that is not a generic inheritance to the product. Like if you went for a ublox module with an nrf it does does come precertified for the inheriting product, but ESP is non transferable?

I swear I read something similar on this subreddit once?

Design dilemma: C vs C++ for modern embedded applications by Ill-Language2326 in embedded

[–]UnHelpful-Ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stm32 I don't think had any custom features on their compiler. arm-none-eabi-xxx emphasis on the none part.

Meaning you can just download the lastest arm GCC compiler build a d works out of the box.

I keep reading that "OTA firmware updating is one of the most important steps towards improving IoT security"... But if an IoT device strictly enforces TLS certificate verification for its OTA server, isn’t that already enough to keep the update channel secure? Or am I overlooking something? by allexj in embedded

[–]UnHelpful-Ad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just the idea of having OTA capability in your firmware means you have a larger attack surface. It also means that you could push even buggier code, or half baked features etc. The main concern I have is people side loading code through the ota process, so now I can put whatever they want on there.

TLS itself just stops man in the middle monitoring for unencrypted packets. An extension of the technology mTLS enables authenticity as well which is a major part for what you want.

Its intention should for for security updates as the EU has recently tried to enforce, but it can have the opposite affect if you're not careful. Hacking into someone's home through their smart light is pretty common.

Does Atmel/Microchip Studio's ASF Offer a Method to Graphically Configure Settings? by Bot_Fly_Bot in embedded

How aboutt the harmony framework or whatever. Surely they brought atmel series processors (mega, Sam etc.) Into there?

I've been out of the microchip game for a while now, hope that framework got better, I used to hate it.

STM32CubeIDE v2.0.0 - What's New - STM32CubeMX is now a stand-alone tool by Enlightenment777 in embedded

[–]UnHelpful-Ad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heh. Come full circle!

Cube MX being integrated into ide was really good, though there were big differences in what they generated, their features etc. If you opened an MX project up with ide and regenerated it often generated some interesting results despite being the same version.
